FAQ
>What is this?
Sleepy Station is a quarterly e-magazine by anons for anons, made in the spirit of 1990s-2000s gaming magazines back when fun was still allowed.
>Can I contribute?
Of course! Write an article/review about a game you love, a top 10 list, an amusing ad, a comic or art piece, a rant...etc and post it in this thread.
>How do I create an article?
 1. Download Scribus 1.6.x: https://sf.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus/
 2. Download the article template: https://files.catbox.moe/ty9iny.zip
 3. Read the guide provided with the template and watch the videos below.
 4. Start writing! You can share your progress any time by uploading your work folder to the thread.
>How do I create an ad?
Either use the Scribus template above or this GIMP template: https://files.catbox.moe/ryn2zl.xcf (also works with Krita!)

NOTE
Articles must be in Scribus SLA format, this allows the editor to properly merge articles and correct errors.
Ads, comics, and art can be in any format.

Remember: Have FUN

Damn buddy you done gave me an idea. Since I travel a lot I might be able to review actual (not chain dave & busters-like) arcades.

Since this idea has only just now come to me I'm gonna spit out some things to rate

1) number of games
2) pinball:vidya ratio
3) quality of selection
4) quality of hardware (does button, screen, stick work)
5) clientele (regulars, tourists, casuals, srs, willingness to play with strangers, willingness to leave you the fuck alone)
6) staff
7) atmosphere
8) non-pinball/arcade options (if any, pricing + quantity + quality)
9) food/drink (if any, pricing + variety + quality)

I would appreciate any suggestions and feedback on this. I'll be in Tucson this weekend, I'll look to see if there's any arcades there.

If you write it editor anon will publish it.

I think there's a Round 1 in the area, and the Electric Bat in Tempe but that's specifically a pinball arcade.

>Round 1
My primary focus is definitely on places that are primarily arcades, but if I'm shit outta luck on those a bowling alley is a possibly great option.
>pinball exclusive place
Those are cool but I know jack shit about pinball other than its fun. In Seattle theyused to? have a free little zineish kinda thing that keeps track of all the open pinball places in the city.
>notepad, pictures
I already have a few notepads that i need to put to use, and I intend to take pictures for the article for sure.
I've also come up with another criteria for the review, which is basically "how far/much fun does $5 get me", and I think a good follow up to that would be "how badly do I want to stay and burn more quarters after the initial $5 is gone"
Turns out I will not be in Tucson, and to spare the thread from more lies I won't say where I'll be, but it should be a city with at least one arcade. or bowling alley with games ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

>>266135
Round 1 in the US isn't really known for bowling so much as JP arcade games. It's the US branch of a Japanese company and the US locations are where they send titles that have stopped earning (or will be abandoned by the maker) to die. It's one of the few places you can reliably find Gitadora, bemani, the three or so drum type games, etc. and the only place where you can officially use most forms of Amusement IC outside of Japan. Unless you're at one of the three locations that has SpoCha everything else (except those seasoned fries that come in the shaker bags) is more like a bonus.

The background could be improved in a few ways, but otherwise the article's design looks good. Well done!
My only suggestion for the next page is to add some breathing room around each header/subheader/paragraph...etc as the current page feels a little dense. Don't worry about it too much though.

I know it's bad design but I kinda like how cramped that one feels. Also I added a grey background at 20% transparency for the whole page to hopefully help with reading.
Also I wanted to put this image in but it wont be not blurry and that was kinda frustrating. It renders clean and clear otherwise, but in scribus it renders as a fuckin blur of shit

I read both articles, good stuff. I needed to make a few corrections to the writing but nothing major. I do have some notes on the design though...
Number one; when I opened the articles in Scribus I found some text boxes were overflowing. This may not have been the case when you were editing them, but due to the quirky behavior of Scribus text may render differently on different machines, which is why adding space is necessary. No worries though, I'll adjust the text boxes after work and show you the result.
Number two; the backgrounds are clashing with the text. I have some ideas for that so I'll experiment a little and show you. The only thing I need now is the original unedited Truck Stop photos... Could you upload them please?

By the way that Ms Pacman image you posted is indeed blurry, but I found a better version online. I'll make sure to add it to the article.
Replies: >>266508 >>266509
>>266417
Between the blurry background and the cramped text with the thin font it's extremely difficult to read. With a couple filler images (give us some pictures of the games, anon) it could easily fill 2 pages.

Anon, it's a digital magazine, pages are free. Articles can be however many pages they need to read well. If it makes you feel better you could make a half-page ad and fit the article into 1.5 pages.

I'll try to learn and improve for the next issue, I would like to make this a sort of hobby. Gives me another excuse to go to arcades more often and improve my writing and design skills, or at least go from 0 skill to anything higher.

Hello Fags.
I am the same anon who did the Mario Strikers, Takeover, Gotham Faggots, Project Zero, Xeno Crisis, Slaps and Beans reviews and the Daikatana, Ouya 2, MoonMan Greatest Hits, Hitler Drink, Zelda and SS Subscription ADs.
Some of you may be thinking:
<You fucking nigger, where the fuck are the OneChanbara: Z2 Chaos and Dead Space reviews!? And what about the "GameScam" ad!?
I think I owe you an explanation.
Unfortunately, I have been working a lot lately, often doing double shifts, which left me very little time to work on my articles (or do anything else, really), then I got sick TWICE, and when they finally gave me some days off for Christmas, they also gave me some crappy security courses to do online that took hours to complete.
Let's just say that my new crappy job leaves me a lot less time to work on my stuff than before when I was unemployed.
I am really sorry and I apologize, but I assure you that the one who feels the most sorry is me.
These days, I'll try to at least finish the Onechanbara review, and maybe the GameScam ad as well.

- Justify all the text.
- Make some text bold or add subheaders between paragraphs, currently the article looks like a giant wall of text.
- Make background slightly darker.
- Make the shotgun rating text bold and squeeze the lines closer together.

As for the GameScam ad, my original idea was to do a few pages small catalog (like the ones they used to give away) with all the fake games, but maybe I'll keep the ad on one page, and do the rest in the next issue, i don't know.
Thanks again for your patience.

I only need to do the last few adjustments and then i will publish it.
Then i will try to finish the "GameScam" ad as well.

Fuck!
Here's an updated version, Scribus was still playing games with the character renders, cutting pieces of them.

Holy shit, i really hate Scribus!
**I reloaded my files and it is yet again cutting Aya's fingers off, let me know if you have the same issue on your machine, if you have, then scratch the updated version i posted and just use the first one, since it should be mostly fine.

I can't see anything at the moment but are you changing the shape of the image itself? If yes, don't. When you add an image, keep it as a rectangle / square.
To wrap text, add a square and change its shape, then make it transparent. Or just use the template, dummy.
>>267511
Screenshots from this link >>267504
It looks like the fingers are fine. I have that 10gb font thing anon posted but it seems that it doesn't cover the fonts you're using. I have no fucking clue what I'm doing with these fonts and it isn't working.
But, the fingers look fine.

If it looks okay on your machine then great.
Maybe there is something on my part that corrupts the files when i save them a certain number of times.
Last time i saved it >>267504 everything was fine, i even made a pdf to see how it was going to look like, and everything was fine.
Then, i later re-opened the file and, once again, Scribus was moving around the character renders and cutting them as it pleased.
But again, if the issue doesn't appear on your device, then great.
The most important thing is that it looks fine on the magazine.

Anyway, since i heard this issue is lacking ADs i am working on a Netflix parody that i will first post to get some feedback.
As for the GameScam one, i wasn't satisfied by how the second page looked as it ended up being too cluttered, maybe because i tried putting too many fake games in it.
I am still unsure if i should keep it at one page or maybe put less games on the second page, we'll see.

If after resizing the "The" still obstructs the medallion, you could try removing it and use that as a somewhat subtle reference to the next game not having Gerald as the MC.
>>267995
Another idea for the bottom text: "It's not propaganda if you have to pay for it."

I mean, i am sorry he had trouble with it, but it is not my fault if Linux fucks things up.
When i did it on windows, everything was displayed correctly.
But maybe it is Scribus' fault because apparently the issues i had in Windows, like when Scribus cut Aya's render's fingers, was instead displayed correctly when the editorfag opened it in Linux, so maybe it is Scribus itself the issue.

Fantastic.
Not that important, but in second column of the second page, i would put "think of it like a reload mechanic, but for swords instead of guns" between parenthesis, and the "L1" just before that in bold.
But it is not that important, it could stay the way it is.
Happy to see the character renders are displayed correctly, that was the only real worry i had.
>>268845
>Forgot to ask, what do you mean by...
I just meant that the combos and special attacks are cool and the animations are good, nothing too technical.
I mean, this is obviously a low-budget game, and you can tell that the first time you play it, but things like the combos you can pull off and the animations are not inferior to those found in higher-budget games of the same genre such as Bayonetta.

Anyway...
I still have that 'Parasite in City' review on hold that it was almost done, so what do i do? Should i finish it?

Try using columns for the text, indenting some paragraphs may help too.
And for the text box at the bottom, it doesn't have to shaped like stairs. Straight lines should work fine and are far easier to use (and are likely better for Scribus too since you only use two nodes instead of many more).

The short version: Scribus shits the bed when you change the shape of an image and reopen the file, so don't change the shape of images. You can still change the shape of other items such as squares/triangles and text boxes.

Long version: you can change the shape of images and not have Scribus shit the bed, if and only if the new shape of the image is smaller than its original shape. For example, if your image was originally a square and you cut it into a hexagon that's inside the original square, then that's fine. If you otherwise shape the image into a rectangle larger than the original square, then you've fucked up. I hope that makes sense...
With that being said, in most cases you don't want to reshape images anyway, unless you're literally cutting a corner like you're doing with MicroReviews. Anything else, such as text wrapping, is better done with a shaped square/triangle that exists on a text wrapping layer that is not printed.

You know what (i think) your main issue is?
That your "MicroReviews" aren't so "micro", after all.
I think that you should just give each review a full page instead of trying to fit all that shit in only half of it to pretend those reviews are "micro".
Another issue is that by trying to cram both of them in one single page, you are making two walls of text that aren't pleasing to read.
With all that stuff you wrote for each of them, you should just drop all pretenses of tiny reviews and just do two regular reviews, even if they are only one page each.
I known you spent lots of time to make the logo, but at this point you should just drop it, or, place it in the middle of two pages.

I just finished an artice for issue 10, having gone back and fixed the text and images in actual article a lot of times. Just now finished a "cover" leading page for the article itself. Maybe best for it to be used earlier in the issue as a kind of advert for the article. I'm about to start working on another article and with it return to a more standardized format but really wanted to get this one out because I covered every arcade 3 in a downtown area of a little city and got pretty excited making the article. So this one is more of a "special", if you will.

Replies: >>269629
>>269628
Barely any for that article. Pizza Planet was an arcade like the one Charles Entertainment Cheese runs, so I didn't play any of those games. You have to load money onto a plastic card to even play a single game, and all the games are new like very new and not what a grown man would want to play if he's looking for an arcade. So I ate the pizza that was actually good and counted the games and left. Funny enough I didn't use the count in the article. The second place I went to has an owner that refuses to charge money for games, She even rejected a guy who wanted to put a UFO machine in her establishment because he wanted a percentage and she REFUSES to charge money. Third, and final, place I went to only had 3 games so I spent just enough to make sure they worked then left.
Typically, though, I have a $5 rule, where I dedicate myself to spending the full $5 and judging based on that, with bonus point being for id I want to stay and spend even more.

True.
My favorite part was that she spent all that money and rejected getting money directly from the machines, which you factually can convert into quarter eaters. Going as far as rejecting a machine partnership because it would entail having a machine be not free is wonderful. When I went in it was not expected for me to spend a single cent on anything at all. I only got delicious ice cream after I was completely finished playing. Boy, I sure do love non-kike behavior and I will praise it when I see it :)

Much better than the the previous article, let me give you some comments...

<front page
- The circle in the top left corner needs something in the middle, currently it feels empty having only the text around the border.
- The giant floating head is clashing with the text because they both have the same colors. I would change the head from white and brown to dark-ish blue and black respectively.
- The background should be darkened as well, the closer to pure black it is the better.

<minot
- Change the font to a serif one (i.e. Times New Roman & friends).
- The text and images need more room around them. Remove or shrink the biohazard symbols at the bottom and give the text some space.
- Either put both the genie and Tucker in the center of the page, or move them to opposite corners of the page so there's symmetry.

<pizza planet
- For the white/red text, make the white lines a more basic font (e.g. Orbitron).
- Remove the first "pizza fucking planet!!!!!!" line at the top.
- The highlighted text looks bad. Try removing the highlights, making the text a bright color, and darkening the "glass" rectangle behind it.
- Change the font of the "hey kids" box, maybe try something newsprint-like?
- The layout in general should be reworked. The picture in the bottom center especially looks out of place. I'm not exactly sure how to improve this layout, but I can try throwing shit at the wall if I have the SLA. For now don't worry about this too much.

><front page
>circle at the top
Ya I was thinking I might should put something in that. I think I'll be reusing that circle so I kept it empty in the center considering the future. I'll see if I can find a good thing for the middle.
>giant mage head + text + background
I want that page to look and be pretty disorienting. The idea being that the mage is casting a spell out of his bead of television static. This is the reason I made the text the same colors as the mage. Perhaps the bottom text that's doing the actual advertising for the article can be different colors, I'll try to make that work. I can darken the background a little bit, but still I really want the whole thing to be a disorienting ocular assault. That is the goal.
><minot
>font
Okay I can do that. It seems about half of what I've been doing the past two days is looking for fonts.
>images
Alright I can move that shit around and try to make it more appeasing to the eye
><pizza planet
>wthite/red text
Alright I'll look at that but that little section is my favorite part of the whole article. I think you may need to tell the advertisers to shove it on that one boss
>Remove the first "pizza fucking planet!!!!!!" line at the top.
Absolutely not.
>highlighted text
I agree, I'll fuck around with that and make it less shit. Your suggestion sounds good.
>picture at the bottom
I'll fuck around with the pictures, maybe I can make it look nicer by darkening them either outright or making them less opaque.
>for now don't worry too much

I have finished a rough draft for an article on Super Marion Arcade. Probably typos abound, but the layout and bulk of the body is pretty much done. I have about a third of the second page empty, but I could fill it with more words and or pictures. I also figure it could be used as real estate for anyone that might like to insert an ad, like how you would sometimes see in old zines. I can fill the space, but wanted to extend the opportunity to anyone that might be interested. The available room is 87.5x257 mm. I want to emphasize that I am extending this not as an attempt to get others to do the filling out for me, only as an attempt to collaborate with anon if he may have any ideas in the coming months.

On another note, I don't plan on trying to fill out the issue with a shit ton of arcade articles. I had the material and wanted to get it put down. Doing this typing and layout stuff is fun. Makes time fly by.

I started playing it on a Dreamcast emulator a year or so ago, but it's very fiddly and the Raspberry pi I'm running it on has a noticeable input delay, so I've been reluctant to come back to it.
According to a longplay I'm about a quarter of a way through since I'm in the Silenced Cathedral and skipped a couple of areas on my way there. Since it's been so long I'd have to re-learn the controls and mechanics. So I'm considering playing the remaster instead.
The game's been on my backlog for decades and I can never get around to playing it fully.
I also have this problem where I start playing too many games and don't finish any of them, still have the rest of demos to go through.

I didn't have a problem with the controls, I found them surprisingly smooth and intuitive even when compared to more modern titles, I can't quite put my finger on what was it that made me not enjoy the whole package as much as the prequel even when it was on paper it was a direct upgrade on many fronts. I dunno about the remasters, from the screenshots they look ok visually I guess, although I'm not a big fan of the redesigns of some stuff

Why Twitch viewers are the best parents

People who watch Twitch streamers are numerous. Just looking at the front page you can see thousands, if not millions of people enjoying the surly baritones of their favorite streamer or empowering life advice from a sex-positive worker. Be it jacuzzi talks, sleep cams or even video games (if you're into that sort of thing, we don't judge here), your every desire can be fulfilled by a stranger across the internet.
And who is stranger than your own child? We here at Sleepy Station are intimately familiar with child-rearing and how similar it is to being a loyal stream fan. Whenever our favorite streamer wants a donation, we give them one, because ultimately they deserve it. The amount of happiness they've brought to us over the years more than makes up for taking out a second mortgage. The joy we felt when our beloved stream mommy said our name for the first time is immeasurable. Oh, to be able to relive the joy we felt when we first saw our streamer play a game we suggested. Teaching them the ins and outs of a particularly difficult boss and seeing them finally overcome one is the most rewarding experience a chat member can have, unrivaled even by your toddler's first steps.
A recent study by Vox magazine has shown that even polycules have been far more successful and prouder parents than traditional nuclear family units, given that they spend at least 3 hours a day following their Twitch tales. It stands to show how much we have progressed as a society where we subconsciously impart wisdom upon others without any immediate reward. We are so proud of this community.

This is purely a product of my deranged mind and a window into my messed up psyche.
Nobody better dare to tell me this was a real article written within the last decade by a "reputable" publication. I don't think I can stomach that, not after the week I've had.

I like the 9th issue the most thus far. Though the Beedition will always have a spot in my heart. And #5 is also very well put together. It's hard to pick.

I liked issue 2 and 5 the most, and i liked number 4 as well.

I liked the Overblood review, it was well done, and i appreciated it was written like a friend sharing his opinion of a game he liked with you, instead of going for a "professional" style.
The Resident Evil 5 review made me genuinely laugh.
The Metroid Dread article was very good and gives all the criticism that mediocre crap deserves.
How hard is it to make a game review for the mag? Do I have to be good at games? I suck.

More Steam-fest demo reviews, read 'em and weep. If anybody has anything to add on the games mentioned here, feel free to do so:

Duil
JL Apps
-Bad Dead Cells clone, clearly an early demo, even the settings menu is unavailable. Nowhere near as fluid, looks pretty barren, lots of negative space. Works off a wonky stamina/energy system where you can have 5 weapons or spells. Combat is as stiff as the movement, you can only attack one enemy at a time, even if they're standing right next to each other. Levels are gigantic and sections are copied and pasted. Dying sends you to a pointless platforming section where you have to find an exit portal, very tedious.

Nothing Beyond this point
Dieuwt
-Cryptic rogue-like, very pixel graphics, got soul to it, probably made by a single person, crusty sound design. Interesting ammo/health system similar to that of Ooze on Sega Genesis: the more ammo you spend, the less health you have. Navigation is intentionally cryptic, think Legend of Zelda East-West-South-West puzzle. Backtracking can be a chore until you find the map. Reminds me of Midnight Station. Not bad at all, would have been a colossal indie gem back in the early 2000's. If the dev tightens some of the combat aspects, I'd have an easier time giving a glowing recommendation.

ROBOBEAT (already out)
Simon Fredholm
-BRM clone, wears it on its sleeve, very stylized, pretty much as difficult to look at as BPM, very curious about my personal data for some reason. Weapons have their own quirks and beat variations. There's dodging, charging, parrying, etc. You can import your own music, cut it up to suit the regular and battle themes of a level. You can also switch between tracks on the fly. Some of the animations are lacking.

Wartorn
Stray Kite Studios
-Very clunky tactics MOBA/RTS wannabe, controls like ass, I can see where they were going with this, but it's just not good or way too raw for now. Voice acting is terrible, along with recording equipment mismatch not doing it any favors. Everything is smudged in Vaseline, very hazy and unclear, it's supposed to look like and oil painting, but the effect only obstructs your view. Barely reached 40fps and still maxxed out my 1080 Ti. Have to hold Shift and drag in order to select multiple units. Think "Company of Heroes", but dogshit.

Dragonkin the Banished
Eko Software
French ARPG that wants to be "Lost Ark" badly, almost fried my GPU, looks and controls fine, but the attack animations are slow, and you get swarmed by trash mobs all the time. Everything else seems like bog standard ARPG fare, it simply doesn't feel good to play. Studio is known for putting out tons of AA shovelware. Of all the ARGS I've played, it reminds me most of "Van Helsing" with a skin of "Lost Ark". I fucking hate "Van Helsing" and "Lost Ark".

Metal Bringer (already out)
ALPHAWING Inc.
I hope you brought your Anti-Aliasing goggles, because this game tries very hard to be retro. Rogue-lite, twin-stick, mech-building, pixel-shaded 64-bit game with an 8-bit soundtrack. It's all meshed together... not all too well. Maybe it requires a more patient approach than what I'm capable to offer, but I always felt limited by the low field of vision and lower energy reserves, making for a very claustrophobic experience. The game is rendered in high enough resolution, but the pixel filter applied to it makes things difficult to make out instead of just making it look "extra-retro". Got killed by a single hit from the first boss, so I assume it requires a lot of grinding.

Mech Havoc
Mid Development
Pretty robust top-down mech game with a choice of piloting mechs, tanks and "I'm fast as fuck, boi" armed cars. Tech trees unlocks, upgrade and side-grade weapons with the important properties listed right these so you can plan accordingly. Maps get reused with different objectives, so sometimes you just need to obliterate key objects and enemies at a base and other times you'll have to mark and secure assets at that same base. Light structure destruction going on, so while I don't believe mountains and big natural rock formations can be affected, you can definitely make a new entrance in a structure if the main doorway is giving you trouble.

Anoxia Station
Yakov Butuzoff
Simplified turn-based LEGO Rock Raiders made by a slav couple. Oozing atmosphere, maybe a little too much. What is it with russians and their obsession with raindrops on your screen? HighFleet was like this, at least you can turn these effects down. Some effects will still overwhelm you, like whenever a giant creatures emerges on the field, you have to suffer through a deflated jumpscare sequence where the camera keeps zooming in and out really fast. Every sound effect is hanging around thrice as long as it should. I guess it makes sense to have a long echo in the underground cave system, but it really bothered me. The game itself is like a mix of Rock Raiders and Darkest Dungeon. The longer you drill and the more structures you construct, the more they drain on your resources, which you're meant to juggle with the help of said structures and specialists you employ. It's really quite engaging and I hope the couple working on this project see their game flourish.

Haste (already out)
Landfall
Developed and published by the same studio that brought us ClusterTruck and Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, Haste is a Sonic simulator focused on maintaining your momentum and not running into shit. You're tasked with navigating, what I assume are, randomly generated sky islands and collecting as many gems as possible. Surprisingly, you can't jump in this game, so you rely on running up ramps and landing at appropriate angles to clear bottomless gaps. The more good landings you make, the more you charge up your hoverboard, which gives you a bit of a speed boost. Which seems like a snowball effect that rolls both ways. Between some levels you'll run into a shop where you can spend collected currency on usable items like health potions and passives. After about a dozen or so levels you'll face a boss, which breaks up the slightly samey levels. You can choose to rush through challenge levels for some extra cash, but they can be unforgiving. One mistake and you're rushed to the map screen. Characters are over-designed, but the core gameplay is solid, hopefully it's more fleshed out in the full version.

I started working on this from vague memory of what you said as seen in pic related 1, but then whenI re-read what you said about the pictures being on the boarders of the whole article, not the pages themselves, I ran into an issue as seen in pic related 2 and pic related 3 (with the images hidden). The issue mentioned is I suddenly don't have enough room for all the text even though I havent increased the size of the images. This must be because I would bring the images to the edge of the page, but thats a big fkn NONO for text, which makes perfect sense. All pic relateds are WIP examples and do not represent what a final product would look like.
Replies: >>279646 >>279718

You can lower the font size.
If I can read your article from these images alone, it's a dead giveaway that the font may be too large for its own good. Keep the one in the opening paragraph and titles the same size, but you can make the rest at least 3 sizes smaller.
Replies: >>279700

I figured 10pt was small enough, but if smaller is good then that'll work.
>>279633
I'd prefer it if you added a third page to your article. As for the first two pages:
>remove the mtndew picture
>fit the pacman picture properly into the bottom picture row
>move the column of images from between the 2 pages to the left of the first page, leave the center area between the 2 pages without pictures
>make the text columns narrow, add breathing room around them, and let them continue on the third page
>the mtndew picture, along with any others not fitting anywhere previously, will go on the third page

I would lift the title a bit higher and put a yellow shadow under the tagline down there, otherwise it gets lost in the grass.
There's also the question of negative space on the right. On its own it's too small to make an "artistic statement" and it wouldn't fit the energy.

Some more inspiration for ad parodies. You don't have to be able to read Sauerkraut to get the idea behind most of these. The call to power one can be turned into a mockery easily.

> What if the nuclear bomb has never been built?
> What if bread has never been discovered?
> What if William the Conqueror lost the battle of Hasting?
> What if, when the world adopts your horrible meme ideology?

> History is what your paranoid

>find multiple pre-2007 websites reviewing/shilling/dissing it alongside a range of other equally obscure products and now-obsolete tech from the glory days
It hurts.
How did they pull off 3D in 2000 using a shutter and basic CRTs on supposedly any Direct3D game?

Anaglyph bullshit like they used on 3D televisions that were all the rage in the late 2000s. But they were a flop, because once the novelty wears off, nobody can be arsed to put on those stupid glasses. One eyed cripples and visually impaired crippled can't use that shit and movies using that tech were just mid. Yeah woah! Avatar. Most expensive movie ever. Muh disturbed environmental propaganda that is basically Ferngully in space is so immersive with that fucking thing on my head in front of some overpriced nugget TV.

I can see the same issue here plus some hick ups with the primitive implementation itself. Often, nobody supported something, because nobody supported something. Contracts last only so long before everyone in the Industry realizes that a product doesn't make any sense anymore and bless it with the final destiny of Disney Sound Source; irrelevance.

Maybe it needed a specific setup that like only the guy who has compiled that shit (Being that guy who could do it on his machine was one of the highest paid positions in the industry at the time). Also Microsoft wasn't the very best with keeping stuff compatible between windows version. Things that worked perfectly on 3.11 and 95 could throw a fit on 98. The idea of using NT as base for everything was 2 years away from widespread release to normalfags at the time. This might the list of reason why it didn't become a thing.

Isn't DSS the same as Covox Speech Thing, and basically a DIY sound card you can build with some basic electronic components for dirt cheap? I don't think there's anything wrong with the tech itself, and some games and demoscene supported it in the early 90's. But there's no big market for something you can build for like $2 at home.
Replies: >>279933
>>279927
Maybe. It was some squeaking mono box emitting weak sound. It was chucked on the market by Disney, when Soundcards still had cost like a virgin pet goat and a monthly salary. A few years later in 1993, Creative labs made sound cards so cheap, that something like that thing didn't make any sense anymore.

i already adjusted the width of that baja blast image to be uniform with the rest of the aisle
im not putting a space between "Vidya" and "(total)" on account of the numbers listed do not have a space between them. It's a uniformity thing that i started with the first arcade review.
ya i could switch out that one "machine" with "cabinet", feels like i used "machine" a few times too many. already switched one for that very reason.
The "-" in "3 game" and "pizza focused" i can do ezpz
What's wrong with "unfortunately"? This is an opinion piece, and it is my opinion that it is unfortunate that there were two OoS machines cabinets
>Clientele commas
Agree on removing the first one : the second one` well he wasn't the one switching machines that was me so that comma makes sense to me. Also I would argue that regardless of him not being the one that was playing CVS2, "he had left" is functionally a complete sentence and therefore can be justified to have a comma instead of making it its own complete sentence in addition to the words before "he had left" not constituting a complete sentence.

>Pg.2
Thanks for catching that coine shit
>lowercase "h" in "Hr"
That looks more like a preference thing to me and I'm fine with how it is
>comma in bus sentence
Good catch, I agree. That's the same idea as with the guy having left on the previous page. Why do you think that the comma should be in this sentence and not the other? Asking this conversationally.
>myeself
lel I'me retard
>"any">"anyone"
This seems more like a taste issue to me and I like that how it is.

I'm not saying you shouldn't use it, the sentence is a little ... I don't even have a word for it, I'm tired as fuck. For some reason I get the feeling there's too many stops in the form of "unfortunately", "two" and "3" being next to each other (vertically), and the OoS thing.

Well that's good to know.
You guys are doing a fantastic job with this project. I always loved reading these old mags, and it's a shame nobody really prints them anymore.

I figure I might as well ask here if anyone wants to help me: Some of you might remember the Western Game Chart that some 8anon tried making for the Japanese a while back. In short, it was a disaster, the process for getting the game entries(democracy except not really since he removed the games he did not personally like, like Half Life), the games that ended up on the chart itself were awful picks, and nobody actually gave a shit about it(the OP was too stupid to know how to spread it to the Japanese and the few who saw it said they didn't really care about it one way or another). I've been trying to make a better one myself, but that ended up being a disaster in it's own way: first being my own inexperience when it comes to graphic design, and second being the absolute incompetence when it came to depending on anyone else to fill in that role. Maybe I got unlucky, but anyone I tried to commission ended up being a retard or a deadbeat that never delivered on the simple templates I wanted. I got fed up and figured I would do everything myself, even if I had to learn everything from scratch.

As of today, I am nearly finished with everything aside from the graphical design stuff, which I am leaving for last in case anything changes last minute. You anons have real talent for this sort of thing, so if anyone here is interested in providing a few templates for me on the side, I would appreciate it. I have all the info on the games already written in my doc and am currently looking for gameboxes, screenshots ect. to paste into the chart.

TL;DR on the chart itself: this is not the same project the 8/v/ anon was working on, this one is aimed at everyone and not just Japanese. The games are all western still, however, and the general idea is still the same: get people to play better games instead of playing whatever free to play-pay to win shoverlware garbage or AAAA disaster is currently available, there is hundreds of better games one can play on Steam, GOG or older consoles/emulators instead. There is 15 games per year, from 1992 to 2025, with an infochart that has info on the game such as it's release date and publisher, if you're counting that's several hundred games total just in this section alone. There is also a description for each game, that includes why one should play it, why it was a big deal at the time, which version is recommended and which isn't, and a link to play it if the game is freeware or abandonware. That's a lot of games, however if I have one template for this section of the chart, all I need to do is copy-paste info and resources I already have for each year. Aside from that, there is an "Honorable Mentions" section that holds a few titles that couldn't make it to the top 15 for whatever reason(currently sitting at over 100 total, I turned the Top 10 into a Top 15 towards the end of the project so that some of these games can be in the mainline section and the Honorable Mentions be reduced to 50 or less entries). Other than that, there is only the FAQ section which details how a total newcomer can play these games(where to find them, where are good places to get mods and patches for older titles, legality of emulators and abandonware sites ect.) and how the chart itself works(this includes actual FAQ questions people might have about it, such as why it even exists in the first place). I plan on making this section a bit more colorful, with various video game characters decorating it and what not. This might be the biggest, most comprehensive chart of it's kind ever made by anonymous users on an imageboard, there is some pretty good ones floating around but they are usually focused on a niche or a single topic, for example games for a console or homebrew, not 30 years worth of games with hundreds of entries that can be shared even with someone completely new to videogames.

So, as far as what I need, it would be the following:
*One template for the top 15, which includes enough space for an info chart, description box, a screenshot or two as well as boxart of the game, x15 for every game present for that year. One game per year is crowned as GOTY and that one has a golden tint to it's infobox and description box
*Honorable Mentions section is much more utilitarian, only consisting of a gamebox and an infobox, this section is designed to house as many games as possible and not much more. A sidebar for notes is present, since there is no descriptions this is where short notes on games will be present if need be(for example, which version of the game to avoid). Each note is represented by an asterisk, with numbers representing which note belongs to which game on this sidebar.
*The FAQ section, which will be all text and should ideally have a few parts to it(the actual introduction, commonly asked questions, FAQ about the chart itself). There is nothing but text needed here, but I want to ideally make it look on par with how some of the pages in your magazine look.

I am not experienced with graphic design, so all of this represents at least a couple months of work when you consider the time it will take me just to learn the basics. I'm writing this post because some of you anons might take a look at this, and think not much of it, I wouldn't know how hard or time consuming what I want actually is for a professional or amateur artist. What I do know is that the graphical design is the last step for this chart project, everything else is more or less done(if I didn't decide to turn the Top 10 into Top 15 I might have actually been done with everything else), so if anyone here could help me and whip up something in their free time, it would save me a lot of time. I already have some mock-ups I have laying around to get a general idea of how the final product is going to look , but making it look professionally made is the problem and that will take some time for me to do. If anyone here is even remotely interested in helping out with this project, let me know, I occasionally lurk here so I can answer any questions you might have.

You don't require a college degree and a diploma graphical design for a chart, anon. Consider these are only as useful as to show the gist of a subject to a few clueless interested parties. In short, just copypaste some game covers from your browser onto a larger file then follow it up wth a succint summary or maybe your opinion on why you think it's good/relevant.
>the few who saw it said they didn't really care about it one way or another
I do remember the idea being utterly stupid and a wate of time, and the OP being a massive sperg that got bullied and ridiculed the more he posted. Thing is nips couldn't care less about the West, and those who do won't rely on a condescending chart made by some weeaboo faggot for those in special needs.

>In short, just copypaste some game covers from your browser onto a larger file then follow it up wth a succint summary or maybe your opinion on why you think it's good/relevant.
That's precisely the idea, I just need to make it look good and professional, kind of like with Sleepy Station here. What I am going for probably isn't even that hard, but as of right now I am absolutely clueless about graphical design so I wouldn't know. At this point, it might be a useful skill to learn anyways just because every single retard I dealt with trying to commission for something this simple either turned out to be useless, didn't know english or was both useless and couldn't speak english. Or they wanted too much money, either way I never want to deal with them again so learning the trade is a useful skill to have anyways and has a lot of applications. I made a post here because I know looking at the mag here anons in this thread are capable of creating something better than I will, 100%, hopefully someone here is as interested in this project as I am.
>I've only read as far as your first paragraph and I can tell all you've written and thought about it is a sunk cost fallacy on an awful idea. Discard all work done and move on.
Normally I would agree, however this chart has universal appeal and it is meant to be spread among everyone, that includes casual and non-gamers. Everyone should have a backlog of games, this will be considered babby's first backlog even for someone so clueless they never heard of Steam before, and I already have content creators who said they would be interested in promoting it when it's finished. I am not planning on spreading the chart much on the imageboards, I am preaching to the choir here, my target audience are normalfags. You get them to play older games, or at least better games, you have less sales for triple A slop and whatever passes for entertainment amongst the mainstream crowd these days, I checked the Game Awards briefly this year and you would think only one game came out this year, even normalfags are starting to notice how bad the state of the industry is and they're hungry for better games. They just need to be pointed in the right direction.

A chart's a chart, just a bunch of images mashed together alongside some text. I have no idea what you're on about raving about universal appeal, content creators or tanking the triple A industry. >If I've understood this right,
>>his dream project's a chart that's just a bunch of cropped images meshed together
If it was that simple, I would have just made something in MS Paint and called it a day a long time ago. No, I want this to look professionally done, something that would come straight out of a gaming magazine, and I simply don't know how to go about that. I got ideas and mockups, but I don't really know the technical details, once I finish the last bits of the infochart for my word doc I will move on to that. I'm simply posting here because I can't think of anyone who could offer advice or help me better than the anons behind Sleepy Station. I agree that it was a bit silly to depend on commissioned artists looking back, I was a bit more naive and expected people who take your money for a service to actually be professional about their livelihood, but I guess I was wrong. My idea is that I would let someone else take care of the part I am useless in and I would do everything else, project gets done on time, nice and simple and only costs me about as much as a game would nowdays(which I don't mind since I don't pay for games, anyways). Makes sense, and with the first artist being big into DOS gaming you would think it would be a no-brainer, but I overestimated just how useless these types tend to be.

You're wrong about this chart having no audience, you have no idea how many normalfags I already got playing games like Arcanum or Planescape: Torment, among many others that are on this chart, just by suggesting it to them and that's before this project is even released to the public. There is a ton of people who want to play good games, but have no clue where to search for them, all they have are youtubers and streamers. If a game isn't covered by them, it doesn't exist. Moreover, with the recent RAM shortages and how awful console gaming is nowdays, there just isn't as much interest in brand new titles anymore, people are looking for older games to play(and with the RAM shortages, they might not have a chance to upgrade their PCs anyways). Times have changed, you can pretty much play any good games released in the last 30 years easily if you know where to look, and that's before you even get into pirating them, so every single entry is one that anyone can get up and running within a day. Lastly, and this is one of the reasons why the original Japanese chart was made, there is a whole lot of newcomers in the PC gaming space nowdays, Japanese for example a few years ago made a big jump thanks to Playstation brand basically dying out, and everyone who just bought or build their gaming PC is looking for games to play on it, obviously. There is a large demand for a giant list like this that spoonfeeds newer players into what they should be playing, how they should be playing it, and where to find these games, moreover the chart has many obscure games as well that I doubt many anons here played, so the selection should appeal to everyone. That's the goal, casual and hardcore gamers alike will find something they're interested in, with every imaginable genre and kind of game on the chart, but the more seasoned gamers(like here, for example) will have less use for it, obviously. That's why they're not the focus, altho I hope it stays a useful resource all the same for years to come just due to the sheer amount of info contained within it.

Frankly, none of this is revolutionary and I have no clue why a big project like this was never tried. I feel kind of like Ross Scott of Accursed Farms with the "Stop Killing Games" project, in that everyone pretty much universally agrees with the idea(games shouldn't be killed, or in this case, people should play good games over modern garbage) but nobody stepped up to the bat aside from him, and he's not the best person for the job: he's all you get because there is nobody else interested in this. That's kind of how I feel right now, but at least the project is nearly done, and it will still be miles ahead of the original dreadful Japanese chart no matter how it turns out.

I don't see how anything I said is confusing in any way, but sure, I will humor you.

First of all, what you posted isn't a "chart", it's just boxart covers with no other info to go off of, nobody will ever play these games if you don't tell them what they are and why they should. Second, many of these are mid to garbage, I know because I considered most of these for the chart(and some of them did make it in). I played NeuroHunter and I can tell you that it's more of an RPG than an FPS, so I can't even claim validity to that image being "obscure fps games", more like "obscure games I played", which is ironically how one of the few Japanese anons who ever looked at the Japanese chart described it(lol). Third, there is only 60 games on the image, most of which seem to be of one genre. My chart has over 500 games of every genre you can think of, even hardcore stuff like mil-sims or flight simulators. One list appeals to very small minority of people and doesn't give them any info to go off of, the other has so many games on it that anyone will find at least a few they're interested no matter what their taste, moreover there is info on the games to let them know if they're actually going to be interested in it, and if so how to best play it.

Here are a few placeholder mockups I commissioned, to give you the idea of what I am looking for as far as main slides for years 1992-2025 should look. These are very early, some even date back to when I was still making the chart for the Japanese before I realize how futile that was, but the idea is still the same: each year has 15 games on it, each game has an infochart for basic info lookup(you would be surprised how hard it is to research some of these games, for example those who released a new entry under the exact same name, think Doom/Mortal Kombat/Wolfenstein). Not pictured here are description boxes, and only one mockup has screenshots, not in an ideal place either. In order to show off all the information needed in an easy and accessible way, it's got to be designed properly. Rinse and repeat for years 1993-2025, you only need one template once you have that taken care of and I just copy-paste info and resources I already have, manual work and nothing more. I have more advanced designs than this already in works, but I'm not going to post them here, this is just a general idea of what I'm looking for in case I didn't make it clear already. I will have a more clear idea on how I want to go about this once I start learning the basics of graphic design, right now I'm very illiterate when it comes to the subject and explaining it, let alone working on it, but I know enough to know how I want the end product to look.

Nah anon, I agree with anon, boxart gives you everything you need to know what the game is about. If your zoomer brain can't comprehend then fuck you, it's not about spoonfeeding.

I remember when seeing someone's collection was just seeing what boxes they had on their shelf, and what they put on display was largely what they considered worthwhile; everything else was in storage. These kinds of boxart charts evoke that feeling. If you don't ge it, it wasn't meant for you.

> If your zoomer brain can't comprehend then fuck you, it's not about spoonfeeding.
NTA but what kind of zoomer would ever care enough to get invested in an autistic project like this? Hell, why would he care about older games period, you ever see one talking about Darkseed?
le wholesome boxart charts might be fine and dandy, but he clearly said he wants to do something nobody has done before, at least not on /v/. Nobody gives a shit about what "emotions" someone on a dead imageboard feels when he sees a 30 year old game boxart, if anons won't make the effort to try and get the next generation interested in these games then they will simply fade out into obscurity, at least until some halfwit youtube video essayist digs one out and makes a two hour video about it. I don't care either way, you two can argue about this as much as you want, but I would rather have zoomers talk about old games from the 90s at the end of the day than Minecraft or their gacha games or whatever slop of the week from AAA industry gets shat out.

Also, this whole talk about "boxart collections" is really fucking stupid when you consider that 95% of people these days just have a Steam collection with 200 games, most of which they will never play. If you still want to put something worthwhile on your shelf, buy a book, still plenty of those and they will look better too.

>There is 15 games per year
>from 1992 to 2025
>There is also a description for each game
>there is an "Honorable Mentions" section
>includes actual FAQ questions
That's not a chart, that's a fucking encyclopedia. If you made one page per year with nothing but game covers that's easily 30+ pages, adding descriptions and other fluff would double or triple that number.
I think what you need is a website or blog, not a massive PDF or a series of images. Navigation and discovery would be much easier and you'll have more freedom w.r.t. styling and whatnot.

These were made withing the first 2 weeks or so of the project, when I needed a visual example of what I was going to be making. They are good for what they are, and I got more mockups made later, that includes resources and other misc. elements I will be using for the final product. Sadly, the actual design for the main slides(the top 10/15) never went much further than what you're seeing, as my artist found it much more lucrative to draw commissioned gay furry porn, and I guess my little project had to go on hold permanently. Looking for other artists was of no help, and so I dropped the visual design aspect until the very end, when I had everything else ready. That time is now, I'm wondering what direction I should take and if I should even keep the same general layout for the template or change it to something else. Right now the only thing I have set in stone is the very basic layout(infobox+description box+boxart+screenshot+GOTY distinction), not how it's going to be set up on the page or what the artstyle of the page is even going to look like.

What I am making is still a chart, however probably the biggest one in scale of it's kind that was ever made, at least by some random yahoo on the internet. There isn't really a depth of encyclopedic knowledge, each game will only have a few sentences dedicated to it and very basic info provided, so the reader will have to do the rest of the research themselves. These days, you can easily google everything you need to know about a game you're looking into, or look up footage/reviews on youtube, so basic info and a hook to get potential players interested is all you need. I guess the closest thing to this being an encyclopedia comes with what version of the game is recommended, for example something like Warcraft 3 or GTA games will definitely have the original releases recommended over the awful remasters, meanwhile other games can vary in quality wildly between console and PC releases(usually older ones), so in that case I type in which version one should or shouldn't play(infamous example, the N64 release of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 that is awful compared to the PS port will not be recommended). I wanted to include a few words about how to make the game run best as of right now, as in what mods to download and where to download them, but with as many titles as I have to take care of I just don't have the time, and more importantly I want the chart to age as best as it can. Total Overhaul Mods linked on sites of today can easily be outdated and give readers archaic information or link them to sites that no longer work or offer said mods of fixes anymore. Good example would be me recommending the Restoration Project for Fallout 2, as recently a new version(Restoration Project Plus or something like that) came out and made the old one irrelevant. If someone is serious about trying out the game, I will have to trust them to do a little digging themselves, especially as new fanprojects replace old ones.

I've been thinking about what format to make this work on, and I think a PDF file will be perfect as you can easily share it with others, and as long as one person will have a copy it will never go away where as it would be a pain to host a website(and possibly have it taken down in an event of an attack or breach). A PDF file can also be read offline, internet outages aren't something people have to deal with these days but I am looking to make the chart age as best as it can and you never know these days, especially now with internet censorship going overboard. Might be that going off the grid will become more common in the coming years, who knows. Either way, one single large image or a PDF file are the most reliable and easily sharable ways to spread the chart and the image will be way too big to share efficiently, however I see the wisdom in hosting a website for the project as well, in fact one of my inspirations for the chart came from Ross Scott's "game list" he hosts on his site
https://www.accursedfarms.com/games/
Like I said, right now I am too busy just getting the visual aspect out the door, and I am definitely not skilled in creating or maintaining a website or a blog, even then this would be a secondary way of sharing the information as I still prefer something you can read offline. Biggest inaccessibility with the PDF format is scrolling to a specific year, if you're not reading it from the start(year 1992), however the only other slides besides the main ones I plan on including is the introduction and FAQ at the start(one to two pages) and the Honorable Mentions at the very end(one page), which means that one should instinctively scroll to a specific year between 1992 to 2025 in a few seconds if they really want to. Thanks to the infoboxes telling readers what year the games released in, they can easily ctrl+F to whatever year or game they want to skip to, provided I can find a way to bake the text into the PDF file itself rather than the infobox being an image.

Good article, I like your background. I wanna check out Ryan's, I really like those old pre-80's pin machines. Also a big fan of the "pay to enter" kind of model as opposed to the more common "pay per play" model. At least if theres enough games that will make that base price worth it. Could be just one killer game, could be a hundred "worth one play" games.
I'd suggest for the first one, the "All pinball all the time" one, using a picture of a pinball machine. It is kinda funny to open with that line and have a picture of a guy playing a racing game though so ¯\(ツ)/¯

The fact is that i think writing reviews comes easier when the game you are reviewing is still fresh in your mind.
So sometimes happens that when i am in the middle of a review, i start playing another game, and then, when i finish that game, i start writing a review for that one for the same reason, because i feel like a have a lot to write about it since it is still fresh in my mind, and so i start the review asap lest i forget what i had to say about it.

I agree that having it be left-align for both columns looks like a poor effort. Originally I was thinking perhaps doing a right-align for the right column, but I think your suggestion is better and simply have the fill or fit align. Whatever it's called. I get the point and agree.
Not sage because I think this post should be able to stand on its own.

I wrote that shitty ad here >>304037 , which if you haven't read I'll just say it's a poor spoof on older computer magazine parts ads coupled with the idea of "everything must go LOW LOW PRICES", with the main joke idea being that the prices listed are good for today's standards but offensively expensive for the prices of only one year ago.
The idea I had recently was to go over to >>>/tech/ and ask for input because honestly I know dick all about computer parts but had the idea of the aforementioned main joke and wanted to put it to page before I either forgot or stopped caring.
This is a long way to get to what I want to propose in this here post - what say you, thread readers, of the idea of extending an invitation to other boards to submit an article (or more) for the publication? This may well be in line with Sturgeon's goals that he stated in his recent post >>>/meta/5435 . Would, at least attempting in good faith, recruiting other boards to participate in Sleepy Station not be in line with the goals of building site-wide community and potentially even advertising? The advertising wouldn't necessarily be >us actively spreading the zzzine, though I think such wouldn't be frowned upon, but rather a display, to whomever may come across it, the larger breadth of the site and its community(ies). Truly no one here is disgruntled that you are a click or two away from /fascist/, /2hu/, /k/, /christian/, /vhs/, or even /HIDDENBOARD/ idfk.
I understand that this has been a vyda zine since inception, and being as /v/ was and is the first board made for this website that only seems natural. I would like to submit that with the growth and expansion of this site, and the lack of other ready-for-action mediums where anons can used their creativity in a positive and communal pursuit, that offering such an invitation more broadly would be beneficial not only for Sleepychan but also for Sleepy Station.

tl:dr

I think anyone who would be against it would be objectively in the wrong. That said, it would be better to first have a new thread with updated OP where the scope of the magazine becomes more clear (or more specifically the fact that non-vidya content is welcome). This thread is close to bumplocking anyway.

"Sardinenigger" here.
Regarding having people from other boards to collaborate, I'd say that Sleepy Station is a videogame magazine and >we should keep it as such, so if anons from other boards want to collaborate they must keep that in mind.
I mean, it's not like if /tv/ wants to make an article about some shit tv show it should be allowed, in my opinion, otherwise the risk is that the magazine stops being a tribute to 90's-2000's gaming magazine and becomes some bastardized crap with no direction.
Off topic shit, could be allowed only for Ads, in my humble opinion (as long as they are funny, at least)
And about advertising it, I don't know...
I mean, if you advertise the magazine to like-minded people I would see no issues, but I also think that the last thing anyone wants here is having redditors and normalfags popping up.
Do you remember when that 4chan faggot who just came here by accident when cuckchan was down wanted to dictate what could and couldn't get into the magazine?
I remember he was butthurt about some political stuff because he was a liberal faggot, and when he didn't get things his way he cursed this place and all of us.
I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to deal with that kind of faggots ever again.
Then of course, this is only my take.

>Sleepy Station is a tribute to 90's-2000's gaming magazines
Are there enough people to warrant standing by such a principle? I haven't paid much attention to these threads so I don't know if/how the activity has changed, but I don't get a sense of a very healthy community when a thread is well over a year old.

To be completely frank I find it absolutely infuriating when some glimmer of hope for change that I didn't know I still had gets lit again and then people in the webring stamp it down by resisting any kind of change. But who knows, maybe I really am the one who's the outsider and should build my own community already.
>>305752
What's the complaint?
>>305749
>/tv/
No I'm talking about sleepy boards exclusively. If /tv/ wants a zine they can do that on their own on their own website. Or not, I don't care.
>advertisement stuff
Yeah I don't know about going out of our way to post it to shit places purely out of a desire for ANYone to join, I'm only going off of the stated desire of Sturgeon. I think the zine could be a good instrument. Also, just now considering this, if there were a couple strong /fadcist/ and/or /pol/ articles could do wonders in the filtering process of anyone who reads the zine and thinks "huh maybe I could go here". When I say "strong" there I don't necessarily mean "super duper good", but strong at least in the sense that communists, niggers, fags, etc would be too strongly swayed against it to even consider venturing into this neck of the woods. I dunno, gotta get some ideas. In my opinion there's plenty of options with that which could even be hilarious to consider some milquetoast leftist reading it and being very unhappy about it. Also also the zine doesn't link here, so anyone attracted here due to the zine would still have to figure out where the door is before being able to walk through.
>>305752
I don't think it's as you say. He's putting in his opinion, and not in a demanding way. I think perhaps the best move at this point is to wait for more input from anons and then discuss the pros and cons of what has been said along with potentially more firmly establishing a goal or direction that we could collaboratively work toward.
>maybe I really am the one who's the outsider
Shut the fuck up outsider :^), a community effort cannot and should not be without disagreements. A community isn't a group of individuals that stand in 100% agreement on all issues, be them communal-specific issues or otherwise. Such a community I would rather not be a part of.
That's a lotta words just to say calm down and discuss. Consider budging where you're willing, and don't where you're not. I spat this idea out less than a quarter of a day ago, I ask that you exercise patience and consider that this is potentially a rather radical idea that I've posited. Radical only in the sense that I've asked for a rather considerable change in the content of a zine that has been ongoing in the same way for years now.

To be clear: I'm not opposed to the idea of some articles with /vhs/ or /a/ content (a lot of 90s and 2000s gaming magazines did something similar) especially when there's a /v/ angle to it, like for example a review of the Mario movies starring a crisp rat. But the timing (seemingly hours after sturgeon took the state-of-the-site thread off the global announcement because it was starting to fill with obvious bad actors) and namedropping the glownigger magnet boards in such a way is lewdly molesting my spidey senses.

>>305766
Man I'm not trying to do anything funny other than in my poorly written articles. What's wrong with namedropping boards that are publicly on this website? I don't use them but I don't care that they're there. Like it or not, that is a part of the website. does anyone even post on /pol/? I used them as an example because the suggestion was to incorporate any zzz board willing to write an article and the idea that if a hard right political article, humorous, ad, historical, or otherwise was included in the zine then that would likely strongly dissuade people that don't belong on this site in the first place. Surely you recognize that clearly everyone here at minimum doesn't give a shit that those boards are here. Suppose that there was a /bdsm/ style board and everyone at least didn't give a shit, don't you think that throwing an article in by such a board would get people who are freaked out by that to fuck off and not bother to show up even if they liked the other articles? Perhaps I lack the tact needed to delicately go about discussing such things, but I just don't give a hoot so I don't consider anyone else giving a hoot. Fuck it okay why not see if anyone hasn't killed themselves on /r9k/ and is willing to write the most robotic article imaginable, that would surely have a similar effect of acting as an "outsider-off" brand bug spray. Ah fuck I don't know, but I do think it's a good idea to consider and ask that if anything just ignore me past the original idea. Who I am is not the idea; the idea is not me. Allow it to stand on its own. If it can't then it shouldn't.
There's nothing wrong with finding contributors across ZZZ, the webring, or even the wider internet as long as said contributors adhere to the spirit of SS. The magazine was made to be shared and has been getting shared everywhere since day one, no reason to stop now.
>let's allow non-vidya articles
I would be very cautious about this. It's fine to include some vidya-adjacent interests such as tech or animu, but others like politics and porn just don't belong here. Those are my 2 cents.

Absolutely.
I am in no position to "demand" anything, and I have no wish to do so, because:
-This was a collaborative project
-I am not the one who first came up with the idea and started the whole thing
-I only started my contribution since number 4 not because I wasn't around when the project started, but because I wasn't confident in my skills to even try

With that being said, if the magazine starts getting "bastardized" and hijacked by outsider I will simply stop any contribution and move on though seeing the magazine hijacked would sadden me
>>305752
>Sleepy Station is a tribute to 90's-2000's gaming magazines

>"change"
Are you one if "those people" who think 'change' is an inherently good thing?
And why in your opinion the magazine should change?
Because every time people speak about change, is because they want to corrupt something good (look at how 'change' has been used in politics by scumbags like Obongo)
>But who knows, maybe I really am the one who's the outsider and should build my own community already.
I think so too, since your main concern seems to be about change rather than any actual improvement.

that chart is way too out of date. Nowadays it'd be like
>two folks get into thing, ok
>more folks get into thing, ok
>suddenly trannies get into thing, not ok, course of talk is hampered, now things can't be said because it upsets the gender minority
>anti trannies get on the thing, discourse is kill, thing is no longer the talking point, but platform for mongering online
>fans of thing flock to something else, repeat.
i haven't seen a single time where talk about a popular game going to normal people has ever ruined it
i have seen endlessly how a game being MERELY mentioned by the pink blue white guys has completely ruined discourse.

That doesn't mean that the community isn't healthy.
Writing an article requires time and effort, and some people simply don't feel like it, or maybe they do make an article and then it takes more time than they anticipated and they give up, or maybe they give up in the middle of it because they are not satisfied with the results and think it is not good enough, or maybe, they did work on a lot of articles and they burned out.
Some people support the idea of the magazine but they don't want to contribute for one reason or another, they just want to read it (which is fine, by the way).
I personally think the reason is simply that after 9 issues (and I think that is a huge achievement and even more than many expected) there's only a few anons left that are still willing to put the work on this thing.
