>Can any of these pieces at least be meted out a bit more?
Yes, of course. I should have clarified that the entire list is tasks done by the editors (plural), provided of course that there are multiple editors to begin with.
>Is there a common workspace between editors? Or are you doing this all locally and then posting here?
Each editor works locally on some article(s) then posts the edited SLA file(s) either in this thread or on qTox. Steps 5.2 and 6 are indeed done by a single editor, but not necessarily the same editor every time.
>At the very least, is there a running list of the current SLA files in the current issue in a post-chain maybe?
The easiest way to trace which SLA files were posted when is to check the archived threads in the OP; find the post with the last issue published (in this case #9) and search for URLs posted since then. I already have all the files downloaded, I just need to prune old versions of articles.
>I guess I could try to open up another person's SLA files?
Yes, that would be a simple task with a great deal of usefulness. Different anons opening a submitted SLA file and reporting missing images/fonts ASAP would greatly streamline the editing process.
>I could maybe help look over someone else's articles at least?
If you can, sure. Quick proofreading and pointing out grammatical/spelling errors is something any anon can do to help with the editing load.
>How do you do this? Do you have different VMs or machines?
I usually just increase/decrease the font size by a small fraction until it looks right, then I call it a day. I have no idea why this is a bug in Scribus in the first place, and I don't currently have the time to investigate or report it.
>I don't know what this is. Are the margins/something different on the left v. right?
Scribus basically "tags" a page as left or right so it gets displayed properly in PDF viewers. Sometimes an anon works on an article and incorrectly tags his pages as all left or all right --something that the OP template aims to prevent-- so the editor(s) have to re-tag the pages. This issue isn't revealed until you actually export a PDF from Scribus.
>Best I could help with is 5.3, though, since I'm no artist.
That would be great because I hate writing forewords. I'm no artist either, by the way, I just scroll through drawthreads and pick a good image to use on the cover. Sometimes cleanups are necessary.
