FAQ
>What is this?
Sleepy Station is a quarterly e-magazine by anons for anons, made in the spirit of 1990s-2000s gaming magazines back when fun was still allowed.
>Can I contribute?
Of course! Write an article/review about a game you love, a top 10 list, an amusing ad, a comic or art piece, a rant...etc and post it in this thread.
>How do I create an article?
 1. Download Scribus 1.6.x: https://sf.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus/
 2. Download the article template: https://files.catbox.moe/ty9iny.zip
 3. Read the guide provided with the template and watch the videos below.
 4. Start writing! You can share your progress any time by uploading your work folder to the thread.
>How do I create an ad?
Either use the Scribus template above or this GIMP template: https://files.catbox.moe/ryn2zl.xcf (also works with Krita!)

NOTE
Articles must be in Scribus SLA format, this allows the editor to properly merge articles and correct errors.
Ads, comics, and art can be in any format.

Remember: Have FUN

I need to start copying down the reviews people post and typesetting them.
We are back boys!

Now that I'm a videogame reviewer, I can fuck five dudes, right?
What outstanding goals are there for issue 10?

I downloaded all of anons' articles but haven't edited jack shit due to lack of motivation and contributors.
If anyone is up for it feel free to message me on qTox/uTox, see the email field.

Sorry janitor-kun but I've been busy with IRL and other hobbies so I never finished the reviews I had on backlog.

Wasn't talking about articles/reviews, I was talking about co-editors. I'm currently the only editor for the zzzine and I can't possibly keep editing alone forever. More issues will be completed if there are anons sharing the editing load with me.

My editing process typically goes like this:

	1.	Gather the latest version of all submitted SLA files, organize into folders.
	2.	Open each SLA file in Scribus:
2.1.	If there are missing fonts and/or images, request them ITT.
2.2.	Wait for the missing files then try opening again.
	3.	Edit the submitted SLA files:
		3.1.	Fix grammatical/spelling errors.
3.2.	Add spacing around text/images where needed.
3.3.	Make aesthetic changes to improve readability.
	4.	Work around the various Scribus bugs if needed:
4.1.	Text wrapping around images with an enlarged frame.
4.2.	Font rendering differences between systems.
		4.3.	Misapplied left/right master pages.
	5.	Create extra SLA files:
5.1.	Cover pages (front + back).
		5.2.	Table of Contents (ToC).
5.3.	Foreword (content may be written by anyone).
		5.4.	Gondola cards.
	6.	Publish the issue PDF:
6.1.	Export PDFs from all SLA files. Look out for rendering bugs.
6.2.	Number PDFs sequentially as per ToC (001.pdf, 002.pdf...etc).
6.3.	Run merge command to create a single combined PDF.
6.4.	Run optimizer to shrink PDF size.

Apologies for the simplistic suggestions. I could help maybe but idk what pieces can be done. Can any of these pieces at least be meted out a bit more?
>1
Is there a common workspace between editors? Or are you doing this all locally and then posting here?
At the very least, is there a running list of the current SLA files in the current issue in a post-chain maybe?
>2
I guess I could try to open up another person's SLA files?
>3
I've only written one article. So, I don't have a good sense for and thus can't really help with that. I could maybe help look over someone else's articles at least?
>4.1
Like sometime the text doesn't fit around images right?
>4.2
How do you do this? Do you have different VMs or machines? I could at least do that on my machine.
>4.3
I don't know what this is. Are the margins/something different on the left v. right?
>5.1/5.3/5.4
These make sense to ask for from people here. Best I could help with is 5.3, though, since I'm no artist.
>5.2/6
I think no matter how you cut it, there'd be a master editor that'd have to do this stuff.

>Can any of these pieces at least be meted out a bit more?
Yes, of course. I should have clarified that the entire list is tasks done by the editors (plural), provided of course that there are multiple editors to begin with.
>Is there a common workspace between editors? Or are you doing this all locally and then posting here?
Each editor works locally on some article(s) then posts the edited SLA file(s) either in this thread or on qTox. Steps 5.2 and 6 are indeed done by a single editor, but not necessarily the same editor every time.
>At the very least, is there a running list of the current SLA files in the current issue in a post-chain maybe?
The easiest way to trace which SLA files were posted when is to check the archived threads in the OP; find the post with the last issue published (in this case #9) and search for URLs posted since then. I already have all the files downloaded, I just need to prune old versions of articles.
>I guess I could try to open up another person's SLA files?
Yes, that would be a simple task with a great deal of usefulness. Different anons opening a submitted SLA file and reporting missing images/fonts ASAP would greatly streamline the editing process.
>I could maybe help look over someone else's articles at least?
If you can, sure. Quick proofreading and pointing out grammatical/spelling errors is something any anon can do to help with the editing load.
>How do you do this? Do you have different VMs or machines?
I usually just increase/decrease the font size by a small fraction until it looks right, then I call it a day. I have no idea why this is a bug in Scribus in the first place, and I don't currently have the time to investigate or report it.
>I don't know what this is. Are the margins/something different on the left v. right?
Scribus basically "tags" a page as left or right so it gets displayed properly in PDF viewers. Sometimes an anon works on an article and incorrectly tags his pages as all left or all right --something that the OP template aims to prevent-- so the editor(s) have to re-tag the pages. This issue isn't revealed until you actually export a PDF from Scribus.
>Best I could help with is 5.3, though, since I'm no artist.
That would be great because I hate writing forewords. I'm no artist either, by the way, I just scroll through drawthreads and pick a good image to use on the cover. Sometimes cleanups are necessary.
Is there even enough material for issue 10?
Or does it need more?
Replies: >>310573

I think there's enough material by now, but if you wanna submit some more then go ahead.
