Mentioned this in the webm thread.  Used to be a few niche channels that would upload 30-120 minute videos of curated selections of light jazz.  Easily searchable, and the several channels that did this had maybe 5 or 10 videos at most of this.  Come 2015-2016, channels that are trying to abuse watch time start flooding the zone with 4 hour videos of similar generic tunes on 5-12 minute loops.  Older channels almost impossible to find through the noise, if not copyright claimed or deleted.  New channels have dozens of videos that are all generically-labeled garbage.

I wouldn't be able to play those versions if it weren't for the thousands of passionate people donating their time to reverse-engineer the backend of a game they deeply care about. There's really no reason old MMOs shouldn't allow local hosting and even less reason why live service crap doesn't either.

You're right. If I wanted to do something like this then I would have done it at the head of something like a big MMO discontinuing it's service because by default you probably have the support of it's fans.
I'd say that something like Multiversus would also be a good start because I remember that it at least was on the eceleb radar for a while. But apparently that game still lets you play it if you have it.

I love that game so much but I would feel miserable if I played it today because the aesthetic of the user interface and overall design feels restricted to 2010 and I can't help but think everyone who was young during that time is old and sad now, especially with how bad things are when the outlook on the future was so bright, the aesthetic feels like a failed promise that wouldn't even have been satisfying if delivered. However I don't feel that way about the first game despite it being older and despite the second game being a much more fun sandbox, I think the aesthetic of the first game in the series (and many other games with a similar aesthetic) captures something so simple and true which makes it eternal and beautiful.
