This is sort of off topic, but what do you do when you have zero idea how to read the room? I feel like every place I post or talk is just this labyrinth of shibboleths and social rules, norms, and culture that I can never crack, so I've just been relegated to lurking and lurking and never saying anything because any time I do, shit like this happens as yet ANOTHER social rule I didn't know about creeps out of the void.
I'm serious, I can't ever seem to say shit right. When I'm in public I'm always a creep. At least over the years I've been able to pick up on facial expressions/distancing patterns of others around me to figure out by proxy that I'm doing some sort of social faux pas and need to leave. Although I'm usually not able to figure out what exactly I'm doing. When I do it's because someone explicitly tells me and I think, "Oh come on--alright, add another rule to the book to try to memorize." I wasn't able to get a job until I found a book on etiquette and just memorized enough of it to get by.
One place online if you greentext you're a pariah, and another if you plebbit space you're a pariah. I can never figure it out. The only strategy I've found that has worked for me is to try to never, ever say a goddam thing and just completely self isolate myself from social contact. Logically, however, I know that should only make it even worse for me, but I'm at wits end of this and kind of just wonder what I'm doing this for/what I'm getting out of it, and want to give up.

Saw the trailer for it a few years ago, looked like it would be dumb fun. I think about it every few months and look into news about it, only to find nothing new whatsoever.

I wouldn't say that I'm hoping it will come out per se because I don't trust modern western indie games (or any modern western games), but Mother 4 has been "in development" since 2008 or so, rebranding in 2020 to Oddity, still "in development". I think it may be one of the most infamous cases of vaporware. There's even a new game in development that took the name of "Mother 4", and it may have better prospects.
GTA is actually a good way to understand the nigger mindset. You can shoot, rob, beat up anyone you want, blast away all the cops in the area, etc. Just avoid being seen for 10 minutes and everyone will forget and move on.
That being said the games are fun to fuck around with sometimes. At least the older ones

>and want to give up
you kind of have a somewhat binary choice which depends on a single question
>are you autistic?
if yes you can either give up as you suggest or find other communities with mentally ill people like
>leftist circles
>discords
>furry communities
>whatever other extremely niche or deviant community
>local help centers for mentally challenged or whatever it is that they have
these are all pretty much completely full of other autistics and mentally ill spergs with one note "personalities" and that practice black and white thinking as a religion, completely incapable of empathy or understanding any view other than theirs. either way forget about ever fitting in anywhere with people that aren't fucked in the head, that's pure fantasy. anyone telling you otherwise is lying to you and trying to traumatize you by plunging you into impossible battles which will scar you forever.
if you actually aren't autistic, then rejoice, just take it in stride and go with the flow. you'll eventually learn how to understand social cues, patterns and rhythms. provided you actually interact with anyone, it's just a matter of time.

I remember when I was just a lad some of the original xbox launch titles came with a couple of demos and trailers on them. Sometimes it was just a trailer and sometimes it was like one whole level of halo:CE. For whatever reason one of these trailers completely captured the mind of young me. Every time I could go to the store I would go and check for this game like I was so sure that it was coming out just around the corner. I did this for YEARS. This game came out in 2005, four years after I first saw the trailer in that side bit of halo or oddworld or bloodwake or whatever. long story shot it was an okay crash bandicoot type game where you can transform into other beasts and was decently fun but nowhere near worth waiting that long.
Anyways that's why I don't look forward to games too much and honestly I usually forget about upcoming games after I see them because part of my brain still thinks that all games in trailers are going to be years away and not worth thinking about

Improve your diet, your physical health, and your information diet. Anons like to think that image boards don't have the doomscrolling mentality but checking a handful of threads/boards for updates is exactly the same as scrolling down a twitter/bluesky/facebook timeline in search of a bright flash of brain chemicals.

"fitting in" in online communities is mostly a meme. The gates have already been destroyed, taxonomy of your hobby is dead, and you can only find satisfaction in assembling a small group chat of weirdos who share your interests.

Good news: you don't need to give a fuck about what anybody online thinks of you, provided that you're polite and make literate posts.

A lot of artists and indie devs use Discord to manage their work, so if you want to follow them for updates (or, Heaven forbid, be part of their community) then you can't do it any other way. Modders are also famously stingy about letting anyone have their mods without being part of their direct community.
>implying muh diskike kikemunnity reee
The simple fact is, if you want to find good people then you have to go where people are, and people are on Discord (thanks to a psyop from the usual suspects back in 2015). It sucks, but it's just the way things are on the modern internet. Even a game like Project Turboblast, which attracted a bunch of heterosexual shortstack enthusiasts, still needs to structure itself this way because the alternatives like forums and image boards are impermanent and easily disrupted by factors outside of the dev's control.

>the alternatives like forums and image boards are impermanent and easily disrupted by factors outside of the dev's control.

I see. I have pretty much zero interest in any modern western content (even if indie), but I can imagine that this stuff may be held hostage on pisscord like that - if I were really interested in that sort of content and used Discord to have access to it, I'd otherwise use Discord minimally for general chatting (most "communities" and users must be ghastly), and if I met people I'd want to be e-friends with, I'd urge them to switch to another platform.
>The simple fact is, if you want to find good people then you have to go where people are, and people are on Discord
Not really. It's absurd to say that you can only find random people (not specific people or content) on Discord, if that's what you're implying, and moreover, "good people". I have good buddies that I chat with on XMPP that I first met online outside of Discord including through zzzchan.

How are XMPP clients nowadays? I don't think I've ever used the protocol. It's on Uriel's harmful software list, but his standards were pretty high and it's likely better than a lot of the absolute dogshit people use nowadays. Now this is some impressive historical revisionism. Censorship has been the #1 reason for the creation and growth of 4chan alternatives for over 20 years now ever since /b/-day and the birth of 7chan. Undermoderation such as, for example, letting /v/ fill up with off-topic /b/ bullshit because m00t got bored with /b/, is a major factor in people were always angry there but it's not typically what causes them to leave. It's the injustice of censorship that ultimately finds posters picking their standards back up off the floor and motivates them to go elsewhere. Most people simply don't have the motivation to venture out of walled gardens until they get banned from them.

Batman: Revenge of the Joker on SNES, it was near finished and you can play it now, but man... it's odd how both this and the Genesis port of NES' Batman: Return of the Joker felt subpar compared to the OG NES title, Sunsoft was a superb developer, but as a publisher? It's like they made sure to always choose the most mediocre developers they could.

If Bamco didn't sabotage Xenosaga, it would have been the biggest Final Fantasy competitor from the PS2 era to the end of the PS3's life span.
Disgruntled FF fans disgusted by the Lightning trilogy would have flocked to Xenosaga, XS6 would have probably come out around Mass Effect 3 did and compared with it on how to end a Sci-fi RPG series, etc, etc.

>Megaman ZX3
Shame the whole reason it was cancelled was the oversaturation of megaman games during mid 2000's. I consider ZXA as one of the best megaman game out there, just below Zero 3 perhaps, yet it sold only 100k copies, leaving the sequel to a halt. And as far as the content goes, the third game was called "Dash" and lore of it was interesting, implying an era between Zero and ZX series, and also connecting it to Legends series. Capcom occasionally did collections of other megaman games and released Megaman 11, but I don't think they will go anywhere. Best we get is another classic megaman game with literally no plot. And even that shit takes another decade to get a sequel. We are not getting a new X game, let alone ZX3.

>new Burnout game
Still no idea why the series failed, considering how succesful Burnout Paradise was and how ambitious the plans were with those games. You could rip cars into two, you would have planes and bigger cities and so on.

>Sonic Adventure 3
They had good thing going on with adventure 1 and 2. Guess trying to go multiplatform complicated things. Even chao island itself would print money yet there is no attempt other than memes and some animated shorts from here and there.

>Star Wars Battlefront 3
This one is just sad. The scope of this game seemed to be almost as big as Planetside 2. I saw that you could just go from land combat to space combat in one map.

I have given up hoping for it years ago. But the last game I was waiting for for a long time was Mega Man X: Corrupted. At this point it's clear the developer has no intentions of ever releasing it. And he would rather ride the ego high of stringing along desperate fans with his world exclusive access to the best Mega Man X game no one else gets to play. Because no Mega Man game takes 15+ years to make. I do not care about how small, and part time, and voluntary the dev team is. The dev could've easily released the 8 Maverick stages years ago, and then forever dick around with the Metroidvania game world. There is no excuse with not releasing at least the Maverick stages.

And if it ever releases, then it will be a bloated mess of feature creep from shoving in all of the game's Discord community ideas.
The Earth's Special Forces overhaul had been indev for at least 20 years now and had a private playtest at least 10 years ago. They are full on denial about the game never coming out but development is absolutely not happening anymore and the community is totally dead. They refuse to open source the project and would rather sit on it long after they've had their lunch eaten by Xenoverse and Sparking Neo and let it die.

This isn't terribly compelling evidence, especially compared to all the Sonic fangames that come up through SAGE, the continued modding scene for Sonic Adventure, and the metric tons of porn that get drawn of all the Sonic characters.

You will probably perceive this as me saying "Sega is great" so I will preemptively reassure you that I don't care about Sega but their mostly hands-off legal culture is starkly different from Nintendo.

>implying the SteamDB thing wasn't some crusty old fart in Sega's legal department seeing Like A Dragon listed online and having a heart attack because he doesn't understand the internet
>implying
This isn't cuckchan, faggot. What's being implied? You asked for evidence of Sega issuing Cease & Desists in the last decade and I gave you exactly that. Whether you think a pedoblox fangame has artistic merit is completely subjective and doesn't change the fact that SEGA told the pedoblox dev to stop making anything without their permission.

>SteamDB wasn't some crusty old fart in Sega's legal department
Why would that matter? Sega still kept that crusty old fart employed and let him try to throw around a bullshit claim. You clearly don't understand how corporations work, because they'll use any legal bullshit they can to get their way. That legal department still represents Sega.

>especially compared to all the Sonic fangames that roll out at SAGE every year, the endless modding scene for Sonic Adventure, and the absolute ocean of porn drawn of every Sonic character under the sun.
Sega themselves said they're cool with fan games as long as they're non-profit, not illegal, and "respect" the brand. But that's clearly selective bullshit, because they've gone after Roblox Sonic stuff hard, including the Sonic.EXE horror multiplayer games that were pulling bigger numbers than their official one. They haven't touched SAGE or other traditional fan events because those are pure non-commercial hype that costs them nothing and even helps them scout "talents". Going after that would spark massive backlash, same way Nintendo learned the hard way with Smash tournaments.
This actually makes your "Sega is super chill" take look weak, because if they're supposedly fine with low-merit fan stuff, why specifically nuke the Roblox ones?

>You will probably perceive this as me saying "Sega is great" so I will preemptively reassure you that I don't care about Sega

Nice story
I had a similar experience with Stubbs the Zombie.
I never had an OG XBOX, but i saw the game on the shelves and thought it looked so cool, especially reading on the back what you could do on the game, and the box art was fantastic.
Years later i got a copy of the PC version for cheap, but i was unable to play it as the game started but with a black screen, so i returned it.
A few years ago, i got a copy of the Switch version for cheap and finally played it.
The results were the same as your game, it was decently fun, but not as great as i imagine it being for all those years.

Speaking of mental illness, there was this one guy in his NND channel who made these cute Blender 3D Kemofure animations with his own models in 2017 back when it used to be all the rage. He made shorts exclusively featuring the cast of the 1st season and apparently really liked the anteater girl who appeared for a grand total of 5 seconds during episode 2. From what I can gather he used to put out a short ~2 min vid every week or so if he wasn't doing a larger video. 9 years later he's still going.

I'm trying to remember the title of an indie game I saw some years ago. Help me, anons. My scattered notes are such:

About five or six years ago I found a sweet-looking indie game that had made real progress and been supported by Patreon but never released.
I went scrounging for anything like a demo but I couldn't find it.
It was an arcade-style game, kind of like a twin-stick-shooter with hordes of enemies and big bosses. I remember it being vertically oriented. It was a fully 2D game with 2D gameplay and graphics.
The theme was halloween, trick or treating, spooky stuff, etc.
The name was a play on some halloween phase, and some verb like shoot/kill/death.
One or two word title.
There was a basic demo the devs used to record footage but there was also a much more advanced demo they teased before abruptly going radio silent.

The characters were like, kid with pumpkin head, kid with toilet paper mummy wrappings, bat kid. They had different projectile sprites for their guns, and I think different firing patterns. I remember the game using a kind of paper doll animation style, or something heavily influenced by the old Flash/Newgrounds style with heavy black lines, though it still had a lot of color and was very detailled.

I think the title had "deaths____" in it.

Not even remotely close.
Warcraft 4
Starcraft 3
Danganronpa 4
A new PMD game that isn't shit
A sequel to Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Keep in mind when I say I wish they came out, I mean that in the best circumstances for the games to be good. Obviously if they came out now they'd most likely be shit.

Intelligent Systems doesn't even remember Puzzle League exists anymore. They used to do a release for every platform. Now they're just a Fire Emblem farm.
