I might have broken my right thumb today, I haven't done any exams/tests on it to know for sure yet, I just know it hurts, it's all greenish for some reason and the space where my thumb articulates is where it hurts most, though I can still articulate it and do tasks fine, it just hurts, anyways I'm skeptical to play video games as maybe it'd make things worse even if it doesn't hurt much.

What do I do? I'm thinking of using a keyboard, any more ideas?

Maybe play some turn based strategy game ?
Unless its gook click you can play them on handed and take your sweat time.
Heroes 3 just got a new faction.
There are also old point and clicks. Dunno try Leisure Suit Larry.

Also go see a doctor before more than your finger turns into orc.

Sounds like soft tissue damage. ruptured or torn tendon or something like that. Either way they'll stick your entire hand and wrist in a big bandage.

Alot of management games like Sim City can be configured to be mouse only if you use the tooltips and menus.
theres also games like rimworld that can be played similarly.

Also taking up smoking cigarettes and getting addicted to painkillers is always something you can fall back on if you get too bored.
>>300105 (OP)
I agree with the other anons: play a strategy game. If you find strategy games boring, I would suggest something like Lobotomy Corporation. While still a strategy game, it is real time with pause.
You badly bruised it. Don't use it intensely for anything for at least 3 days.

If you want something that isn't pointy and clicky or strategy, I can quite easily play Gothic 2 (probably works with 1 too) one handed on the keyboard. Left hand by WASD obviously, everything you need is in that region by default. May have to change the settings in the options for "gothic 1 controls" but not entirely sure on that. It's been a hot minute since I've played it last.

You can play strategy or management games. VNs are also an option that use only the mouse. Or MMOs or games like diabloII where you only use the mouse asides the numbers for some skills or hotkeys, but they're all playable with mouse only (this are not sugested, because this will destroy your hands if you have normal mouse due to all the amount of korean grind). I also heavily recommend a vertical mouse, to reduce the thumb pain in general. If you say what kind of strategy or turn based games you like the most, I can you suggest you some... Maybe something like slay the spire, wesnoth, maybe some wargame... cities the skylines can be a fun city builder, rimworld, a 4X.... For example the other day I played a tycoon game called idol manager simulator that was not the best game ever, but at least can be played for an afternoon. Another fun management game is Touhou Mystia Izakaya. First person dungeon crawlers can be also played only with the mouse. Wizardry 8 or those kuso sakura dungeon games idk (etrian oddysey with emulator maybe?).

At this point I am just writing shit that comes to my head while scrolling steam: bloons td6, summer/winter memories (the eroge), hearts of iron 4 (i don't recommend playing paradox games because they suck, play decisive campaigns barbarossa instead, like a man). Panzer corps 2, The Operational Art of War IV, battle academy (this one is a very simple game that can be fun for a few levels), Advanced Tactic Gold, Shadow Empires (if your autism is high), Living with sister monochrome (and the fantasy version which is better), the disgaea games, polytopia is a fun 4x for short games, neo scavenger, the monster girl quest games (pinacle of gaming), dominions 6 (i hate this game, but can be fun), mahjong soul (to sell your soul to the chink gacha), Dungeon Travelers: To Heart 2 in Another World, Monmusu Gladiator (fun kusoge), Succubus Forest (other kusoge), Monster Girl Descent (another sly spire clone like the previous two kusoges).... idk.

And go to the doctor dude.

No anon, don't suggest anyone to play dragon quest 1-3 for the NES. specially 2, that game sucks is a pain in the ass to grind. I beat them on the gba version that is easier and still was a torture.

This thread has been very helpful. I appreciate the advice, anons! Hopefully it really is just a bruise, I'm going to wait for a few days, since it's getting better over the hours, but if in 3 or 4 days it still sucks I'll get an X-Ray, for now I've got it sort of stuck with a simple bandage, not ideal but it works in helping me not move the thing much, though now I'm moving it well.

Famicom Dragon Quest games are fine, the only tedious entry would be the first one, but these are JRPGs from the 80s, if you can't tolerate grinding, you shouldn't be playing them anyway.

If you can move your thumb at all without screaming from pain, it might not be broken. The greenish color might indicate that there is an infection below the skin. Either paronychia or a phlegmon. It's an infection that spreads through a bruise and infect the soft tissues and the tendon sheath. You should make it checked out because if it's too spread out, it has to be drained. Antibiotics are a must. I can't tell you more without seeing it with my own eyes.

Most anons are recommending slow-paced or turn-based games, but I don't think having a broken right thumb is that debilitating. You'd only have to necessarily resort to those games if you were full-on paraplegic and could only use an eye tracking thing for inputs. Even if I somehow lost an entire hand, I'd still find a way to play all my games.
You can still very well play most games with a broken right thumb. Playing keyboard+mouse or keyboard-only should be fine. Arcade sticks should be fine if the game doesn't use a lot of buttons. It only gets awkward on a gamepad.
Don't give up on your games, anon!

I enjoyed them, specially 1 and 3, but dragon quest 2 traumatized me.
>right thumb
What do you even use that for? Unless you are used to using one those gaming mouses with extra buttons, the right thumb doesn't do much of anything other than lightly gripping the mouse.

It was quite literally designed so you would play with your thumb If you actually wanted to use all 3 buttons at once you are literally doing it wrong... Buy an hitbox temu edition make one yourself or use a keyboard
>>300176
Can you convince me that arrow keys are better than a controller for shmups? I've been juggling between the two and I can't decide on which one to commit to.

You can switch between directions without even moving your thumb. You press down a single key which is ergo more ergonomic...

WASD (no idea why you would use arrow keys and choose to flip the left-hand-movement-right-hand-action-inputs paradigm found in every single other control system) gives you a kind of precise control over cardinal and diagonal movement direction that is unmatched on just about any other digital input method aside from actual arcade sticks or the Neo Geo thumbstick. You never have to worry about accidentally bumping a diagonal when you mean to press a cardinal direction or vise versa on a keyboard in the way you do with most kinds of D-pads. By recruiting three fingers in directional control, they also allow you to switch between directions faster than anything that is possible when you're using only your single thumb. I've played arcade games on my keyboard for a long time and I've reached a the point now where I actually prefer keyboard over an arcade stick even for a game with very complicated inputs like Guilty Gear XX.

>Tell that the Japanese and Europeans
I will. Just as I told it to Americans during that time as well. It was a bad idea that deserved to die for a long time when Quake III finally standardized WASD. It's downright criminal how long it took Japanese doujin developers to finally start allowing motion input remapping.
Replies: >>300540
>>300533
By the way, I should add that the reason this stupidity has persisted so long in Japanese games specifically is not because they necessarily like ZXCV+arrow key vomit. In fact, the usual expectation for Japanese players on personal computers is that they own a controller they're going to use in lieu of a keyboard. The reason it persists is because most Japanese players consider playing games on keyboard to be an afterthought and ZXCV+arrows inputs map to controller inputs really easily without a lot of extra work.

Dark souls 2 you fucking bitch. No pain no gain the more pain you have the more you have to play. Live like a man.

Was there any particular reason Nipponese doujin devs during the PC-98 days insisted on mapping directional inputs to the numpad of all things?

if right thumb is hurt, does that hinder you from using any of your right hand fingers? If not, you can easily play a lot of platformers with direction keys using your three fingers, and use your left hand for Z, X, A, or whatever you desire to use on keyboard.
If you havent tried, I can recommend Sonic 3C, Megaman X and Zero series in general, or Mushroom Kingdom Fusion that I have been playing a lot lately. Also you can play pretty much all platformers as they either require keyboard or simple mouse clicks.
Have fun anon and get well soon

It's been a couple of weeks and I'm happy to say that my X-Ray came out normal, of course I could still have issues with things the X-Ray doesn't pick up on, so anything that's not bones, but while I was in pain for a few days when working, so using my right hand often, the last few days have been better, very rarely do I feel any pain and I've managed to play my video games with a controller like before, though for many days I've used a keyboard and tried playing titles that weren't action focused. I appreciate the care and advice everyone here gave me in this thread during that time, it was helpful in getting me to keep my main hobby despite hurting myself so badly, you guys are awesome. Cheers, everyone!

Then that's probably tendinitis.
>Tendonitis in the hands is the inflammation of the tendons that connect muscles to bones, often caused by repetitive activities or overuse. Symptoms typically include pain, swelling, and difficulty moving the affected area, particularly around the thumb and wrist.
