During the negative-G turn you can see the pilot's arm raised against the canopy, and some people were suggesting it was G-LOC, but the manoeuvring was too controlled for that and I think he was just holding the handle.
It looks like he tried to pull up before he was levelled out, and ended up trying to pitch and bank at the same time, which is not effective on a delta wing.
If the plane had canards, he might have made it.
