Why not? It's the same officially provided answer for all NASA space flight technology to the moon. Trench warfare is a big advantage for Russia. They can make shitloads more artillery shells than Ukraine. They're playing the long game and will win unless Ukraine can disrupt them somehow. That's why they keep lobbing drones at russian refineries, and whatever other targets.
Also the tanks Ukraine got from the west kept getting demolished by russian drones. There's shitloads of videos online that show it. So this can't be a maneuver war like the american military is used to fighting. It can only be an attrition meat grinder, which heavily favors Russia.
In reality, it's a very stupid war for Ukraine to fight. But they never asked themselves if it was a good idea to be the expendable proxy of the west. That's because they don't even have a legitimate government anymore since 2014. They have instead a puppet government installed by the CIA.
They have tried to also pull the same shit in Iran, but it failed, and backfired spectacularly. And now the US has burned through half of their oil reserves, which will reach a critical level by next year.

The us has no will to fight be the populations within it aren't of the same flesh, that makes them unable to have an ethnic interests, or want to sacrifice or express any kind of pro group traits for something they know instinctual level isn't going to pay off.
