CHRISTOS literally means "SMEARED with seed" or, if you prefer, "Anointed".
I take that to mean that this was an individual that was operating on a higher spiritual plane, something that most people, even today, cannot even conceive.
It would be acting as a selfless vessel, a conduit, in which the ONE flows through as if a transmission from a radio tower.
I believe that Christ, whether you believe in the real "Joshua ben Joseph" or not, is aspirational, not concrete, and certainly NOT dependent on dogma.

Not that the Babble is the "END all BE all" but that there are esoteric meanings (milk and meat,) where some spiritual wisdom can be gleaned.
I also think that it's very possible that Joshua was well studied in multiple eastern esoteria,(the 3 wise men amongst others.)
I care not for what "Christians" today believe. Just that Christianity has been used as a cudgel to turn them into fools.
