>people at my job made me want to kill myself this week
People meaning customers or fellow employees or management? Can relate either way. Too much ape behavior happens with all of those "people". Trying to sell shit felt like a dancing monkey act a lot of the time. Your fellow man steals credit or throws you under the bus regardless of how many good words you put in for him. Management is retarded as a rule of course. Of course, even if you figure out some small thing you can monetize from home, dealing with people online can suck a lot too. I wouldn't feel good scamming a bunch of retards, but I wonder if grifters are less to blame sometimes.

I don't pay anything. I mostly just like doing the quickdraft for sets I actually like (I've enjoyed tarkir, bloomburrow, llorwy, and edge of eternities since I started), which you can do with points you can earn for free. When there's not a set I want to quickdraft (which rotates every 2 weeks) I just do the 'daily quests' with the starter decks which don't cost any points to play.
I haven't really gotten into constructed, that might be more p2w. But also from drafting over the last 6 months I've gotten a lot of 'wildcards' you can redeem for anything you want- so I might be able to make a competitive deck without buying anything eventually.
I assume they offer secret lairs and stuff to collect shekels from the really good goyim but since I don't play constructed online I haven't seen it much.

Every once in a while I use the internal points to do the powered cubes, you don't get to keep the digital cards but it's fun to draft like black lotuses and stuff.

Coworkers are what bother me the most. I feel like I've never really had issues with managers (maybe luck). I deal with 'internal customers' who are mainly people from offices who feel like they're not getting as much resources as they'd like (because I'm in the finance office) and sometimes they're annoying but I usually get it and can deal with it. But lazy and/or incompetent 'team members' just drive me up the wall.

I think I agree with you- I don't have the heart for scamming people but the older I get the less I begrudge those who do. At least they're breaking out of the bullshit.

Mtg arena is a online casino of sorts, It's not real magic because all of the draws and games are coded and set to play out how the game wants you to play it out, it determines if you are to win or lose before you launch the game and fucks with you hard, the only way to win a game it determined you to lose is if the opponent somehow and very rarely makes a hundred massive fuck ups and even then it is still hard.
Even with all that said, I still wanted to play it and just enjoy it but it's literally not magic due to no RNG and each card being weighted in how it's drawn and it's Values and who you are matched up against for jewzards of the coasts determinations, it's only enjoyable if you can play it like it is braindead and just stimulation and take your forced losses and move forward, I love drafting for example and it is the premium way to play, you can still more or less play the premium currency modes but your wins/losses are coded like a rigged arcade machine.

Eventually I could not stomach it anymore and I stopped playing it, I've got a lot of wildcards and a pretty chunky account even though I've not played since after Final Fantasy set released. Dominated IRL pre-releases and the like and it's just so different with real randomness than MTG arena. (and yes there is ways to game it but it's not fun, you can find out what cards are weighted and build decks around the "meta" of MTG arena with studying, not actual card meta of what is best, but on what the engine and their algorithm will give you better draws etc, this still won't remove the "you are determined to win/lose this game" however.
If you pay money it temporarily increases your "you will win" status it's not needed to play but playing just sucks when it's so rigged, I much more enjoy something like Xmage except Idk if it's active anymore and I remember always some users not upping their default RAM usage and being slow to play/AFK and ruining matches and also only really can play Commander there (I like commander but other reasons made it sometimes a chore but often fun at least years ago now)

Summary: It's rigged to high-hell and is not "magic" but can be a decent time for a bit but you don't really affect outcomes and aren't playing except for the games that MTG arena decides are "anyone wins" which those games are fun other than draws aren't random and if you play enough with the same deck/cards and against same cards/decks you will intuitively know the limited outcomes and what will occur while playing which spoils it for me.
>T. thousands of hours in Arena and >7k hours playing real life magic and older magic games like mtg 2012 (which had dual headed giant and 4 player games and I enjoy more than Arena when I want my fix though card selection and AI sucks)
Replies: >>311740
OH! and if you do play arena, you should know it's setting you up to play certain cards and have mana values etc. for what you are playing, if you play it as true random it will set you back heavily, A quick example but know that the game has in mind for you what some of your future options to play will be in your draw pile, so playing "optimally" as if it was true random will screw you often later because the game is setting you up to be able to play a certain way and it's often cheekily setting up a card for you that will work well with a card that is the "safe" play to make now but if you play it instead of the more "risky" play then you end up being set back later.
(The draws can change also depending what you play (which is part of what you will come to know through experience) but generally it has a default "path" for you and your opponent to "play out" and will give you and your opponent cards to play the mtgArena cutscene out and if you get too creative you often get fucked.
It seems it has cards that are "traps" that you would want to play but if you do you get counter-fucked then you draw a sequence that if you saved your card you would be doing very well.

Honestly typing this out I am going to play it a little more with my stored credits if they have a limited set I like because it's fleeting and I hate it and it's not magic but since I've already been burned I know how it works and I am just playing with the Algo more than MTG but it can be a little entertaining, since I haven't played in a while it will probably give me a returning player winrate boost for engagement.

I buy what you're saying. Especially with quickdraft where arena simulates what cards would be left over rather than actual people selecting cards and you being left with the leftovers.
I remember when Bloomburrow was the quickdraft I decided to play izzet otters because when I was drafting irl other people were always in those colors and I like spellslinging. I got 7 wins 4 times in a row even when I was forcing it and didn't have good options the first couple of picks. You just stick with the plan, play out the payoff otters while holding up the instant/sorceries that trigger them, and you pretty much win even if you're stabilizing with a low life total.
I'm very stupid and I never really figured out the meta for the last tarkir. Seemed like the optimal was 5 color slop but I just fucking hate playing those types of decks and maybe that's why I wasn't doing that great.

But yeah the lack of randomness definitely makes arena worse than paper. Llorwyn has been a fun set though, still a couple days left in the quickdraft for it before the ub turtles drop.

I played some Llorwyn and it's pretty fun, simple enough I just pressed play and got the gist of it enough to know what to do, I like elves.
Still going to stay retired from magic but here and there is fun just due to how time I've spent from age 11-23.
I feel the same way for certain vidya I have 500-3/4k hours on.
If I could go back I wouldn't partake from the start and do IRL stuff but since I have it's worth it to de-stress and just have a good time here and there as much as I want to 100% revolt against modern jewery infesting more and more of them.
(An aside, I love mtg and if I ever get some friends I want to order on quality paper-stock custom old mtg cards and play with said non-existent friends, maybe I'll do it with my kids, it's a brain boosting activity.)

KoA and possibly other stuff. Was thinking of starting Star Ocean or one of the newer Digimon games. I heard Star Ocean is a super long game to complete and the Digimon games are probably going to be tedious if they're anything like the older ones. Or might play some multiplayer shit if a friend is around.
Killed my first proper boss with a special health bar and everything. It was some "immortal" slut called the Widow. Kept getting her to half because she maintains a few spider summons the whole fight and is powerful enough to 1-2shot me herself, but then I remembered there is the special meter time-stop thing and easily killed her in ten seconds with it once I did. Got player housing out of it so I can finally hoard items too. Also killed some demonic miniboss called a niskaru and some annoying tree thing called a grave thresh for another couple quests. A couple days ago, I learned I can equip shields and parry even if I'm using two-handed weapons.

Very relatable. I have a few boxes of boosters from sets I like that I keep around for hypothetical kids to draft with. And a bunch of sealed commander decks. Or they'll just get eaten by mice if I never have kids, who knows?
