My parents are immigrants from a country where Russian is widely spoken, and as a little kid I learned both Russian and the language of the country I was born in and live in. I've always spoken with my parents in Russian, and as a kid I could practice Russian because I consumed media (mainly cartoons) in Russian and interacted with Russian-speaking immigrant communities (as in real life communities).
Then as a teenager I stopped interacting with those communities and my Russian started stagnating, but at the same time I learned English (third language) by using the internet and consuming media in English instead. Later, I started learning Japanese (fourth language) because I have a strong interest in Japanese media, but my Russian started getting rusty.

I see my parents every day since I live with them, but I avoid having deep or serious conversations with them because I don't want to embarrass myself with poor Russian output, and I'm nervous whenever they invite me for a video call with their relatives who stayed in their country.
I've decided that I want to change this. I don't want to keep embarrassing myself in front of my parents and I want to be able to smoothly talk with them and my other relatives again. I want to restore my Russian skills, and preferably polish them to a decent adult level.

For reference, my pronunciation is native-like, and I have a general intuitive grasp of the grammar. In terms of output, my real problem is a lack of vocabulary. However, my comprehension is much, much better than my output skills, and a large part of that is probably because many words resemble words from English or my country's language (which is also Indo-European), so I can intuitively understand them even if they're not in my output vocabulary yet.

Something that makes this easier is that there's a lot to choose from to practice Russian - Russia is famous for having its own huge online bubble, and there's a lot of original Russian content including famous literature, and there are also lots of Russian translations of non-Russian content. In theory I could use their translations of Japanese content (which even includes anime fandubs), but since I started consuming Japanese media untranslated, it feels wrong to use any translations. (And by the way, for comparison, despite everything, my Russian is still better than my Japanese)
There are also many Russian visual novels, some of which have gained fame in the English sphere, but I have a deep-rooted aversion to non-Japanese VNs.

I think that I should start making some time for consuming content in Russian, and exploring Russian online spaces. Hopefully I don't have to sacrifice a lot of Japanese practice for that. And maybe I'll find out that Russian forums and imageboards are better than English ones, who knows.
OK, good luck, I guess. I wasn't really aware that Russians were producing visual novels.

Very hard to find one that's not filled/tainted with politics, I think your time would be much better spent reading russian literature from XX century, It has more accessible language then literature from czar times, and by now it's easy to find books uncompromised by soviet censors.
I'm reading Bulgakov right now he has very entertaining way of writing, something I feel easy to recommend is young doctor's notebook by him.
I think his most striking descriptions (from what I've read) come from medical field as he is a doctor him self but his biography of Molière that I finished recently was surprisingly interesting despite me having no interest in theatre.

You'll probably get better vocabulary from actual russian books.

My parents are immigrants from a Russian-speaking country and I learned Russian from them as a kid, but as I grew up I stopped using Russian outside of talking with my parents, and now my Russian got too rusty and I have trouble with having non-trivial conversations with them (technically I could speak in the language of the country we live in, but that would be even more shameful than using my broken Russian), so, I want to restore my Russian skills.

Discord is also frowned upon here.

Don't know about telegram, but your insistence on talking in other programs is annoying.
Talk here.

The problem is not so much the male part per se, but the trap part.

I watched soviet cartoons as a kid and I'd like to revisit them. Overall I don't think they'd serve too well for polishing my Russian since most of them have simple if any language, but I would rewatch them more out of nostalgia.

This one is pretty interesting because it's a good representation of lazy Americans and ADHD-ridden zoomers and gen alphas.
I was surprised to find that it hasn't been subbed (I guess soviet toons are a bit more obscure than I thought), but I think you can follow it without understanding what they're saying.

Get into voice chats. Discord for all it's faults might still be by far the most accessible option (somewhat diminished in wake of RKN restrictions and having bias for westaboos due to that, but still and latter would be in your favor). There also are some mumble communities, try wandering the public server lists, you may have some luck there.

Either way, you might want to use some discretion when picking up new terms, as you're likely to get exposed to some of the sosach userbase with own rather distinct vocabulary. If it sounds like something fitting for now extinct gopniks, odds are it's a part of that.

Look up whatever the good Russian movies are and go watch them. That'll help you more. Try to expose yourself to natural speech in that language.

Russian movies, especially soviet ones, can be very far from natural language, even for the time those were filmed. Soviet filming scene was incredibly insular, prudish and under pressure from higher-ups to promote certain ways of thinking, leading to notable disconnect with general public. To some degree that also transferred over to the post-Soviet one, and independent filmmakers can deliberately go for unnaturally structured dialog and delivery to achieve particular results.

Uhh... fair enough. Are there decent Russian movies that do employ natural language?

Filtering common suggestions, Левиафан (2014) and Аритмия (2017) are good examples of fairly modern language and natural delivery.

Not taking a hard stance against disgusting trash is implicitly endorsing it, which encourages it to be posted more. As does being extremely vocal about detestable material does too.
