Meanwhile most attempted competitors manage to be inconvenient and more consumer-hostile and deceptive so Steam looks good every time others do something fucked up. The only reason I can think of is that they are better than the alternatives which isn't exactly a great reason. Jacking up the price by taking a 30% cut of all video game sales is scummy as hell. The only thing Steam has going for it is that it is generally lenient about the content that gets posted on it but it isn't better than dlsite so it is only considered lenient to compared to the other publishing giants

Oh yes I can relate to this as someone who used steam to play VRCHAT on Windows. TBH I no longer play VRCHAT along with steam as a whole. Not only is it killing videogames but we would be just culling minors. We sincere had enough of this shit.

I'm not a pro-piracy maniac and I don't like DRM systems, including Steam. GOG is better, but physical copies are best. Except physical copies are increasingly going the way of the dodo now because fucking BluRay had to win the format wars instead of HD-DVD so that we could all overpay massively for a burnable disc and watch it rape the profit margin of a purchase (especially a $10 purchase) harder to make the concept of selling physical copies even less appealing.
