This match was a superb psychological analysis. it shows how the herd mentality is formed, people become the same not necessarily by only following orders but also by acting reactionary, like how a democrat who only basis his political beliefs on what republicans dislike, or the opposite, so eventually they become two sides of the same coin. and it's easy to predict their thoughts and lead them to one conclusion or the other.
kaiji is based
so is akagi but i liked kaiji more

I agree.
Feel like One Outs is better than early Kaiji. Not that the latter is bad, but the janken was underwhelming. The bridge was superb tho.

Kaiji is much better than Akagi. Both are good, but Akagi is more focused on mahjong autism whereas Kaiji has a lot to say about life between and during all the games (and it's generally much more extravagant, can't really compare playing with tiles on a tabletop to traipsing between skyscrapers with nothing but a narrow beam).

I didn't like One Outs. Protagonist was too much of a Mary Sue. A lot of the stuff he secretly accounted for was too ridiculous. You get the feeling early on that the guy will never lose no matter what. Kaiji, on the other hand, almost never catches a break and gets fucked over constantly. Seeing him fall to new lows made his victories a lot sweeter.

Yeah, plus the cheating in one-outs is just on a comical level, hard to take it seriously at all

Dunno, I enjoyed it as I tried to predict and evaluate the predictability of what the author is going to pull out.

Yeah, I'd like to see more gambling anime where the protagonist is a fucking loser.

But is Usogui better than both?

It's about an underachieving gambling addict who foolishly puts his life at stake in a series of games orchestrated by very evil and rich men hoping to make a lot of money. Easily in the top ten of best anime.
