Virtua Fighter 6 on the horizon.
Tekken 8 season 2 just announced Fahkumram to the displeasure of everyone.
Street Fighter 6 added Elena and announced season 3, Ingrid is in.
Garou: City of the Wolves flopped and the CEO stepped down, they announced three seasons prior to release, so we will see if they continue or axe them.
Guilty Gear Strive... continues to exist, I suppose.

What are you playing? Looking forward to anything?

It's almost like shoving dumb real life "celbrities" into the roster was a retarded idea and hurt the sales more than help them...
Whoever thought that was a good idea needs to be shot.
Too bad because SNK did some shit right, like keeping the price down and including the first batch of DLC for "free"
I hope that Fatal Fury will go back to the original timeline with the classic roster, Big Bear, Cheng Sinzan, Blue Mary, Krauser, Sokaku which were far better than any character introduced in Garou, aside from Tizoc and B.Jenet.
Pic related is a far better roster then shit like Marco/Butt or Preacha

Negan came out multiple seasons later after everyone bought T7. false equivalence.
Also the celebrities aren't the sole killer but the representation of SNK and other future investments into that IP. If you're going to spend millions in marketing on famous people who would never even touch the game instead of established characters that fans have invested decades in. Also, if you're paying millions for vanity marketing at the expense of what fans want, then people are going to scrutinize everything under a microscope; which is what heppened.

The worst thing about the CotW discourse is old retards like you who don't understand that nobody has given a fuck about either Fatal Fury or Mark of the Wolves since the Playstation 2, and that 15 guys in a Fightcade lobby on 200+ ping isn't enough community groundswell to will a new player base into being. It's been enough time for an entire new, physical generation of boys to grow up, get driver's licenses, and get jobs without even hearing the words Fatal Fury and if it hadn't been for Smash Bros then nobody outside of the FGC would even know who Terry Bogard is.

>b-b-b-b-b-b-b-but they ported Mark of the Wolves to a new console!
So? Shit like that is for the handful of people who play the game in side tournaments at big events. Ports, good or bad or rollback or whatever, do not get new people to play the game in large numbers because SNK never fucking markets their releases. The entire company has been coasting on nebulous notions like arcade spirit and word of mouth since before they went bankrupt, and now that they have infinite Saudi oil money they're realizing that no amount of money can make up for being out of touch.

Sure, fine, maybe you didn't like the Garou characters. It's been twenty six fucking years since that game released. The entire genre has nearly capsized like two times since then. You have a fucking room temperature IQ if you sincerely think "new generation roster clash" is a meaningful talking point for any of these games. Boring characters like Fat Guy In Suspenders and Chinese Twins and Tall Guy With Tattoos and Straw Hat Fisherman would not have saved this game. The Second Coming would not have saved this game.

Did CotW have rich, nuanced mechanics for offense and defense?
Did it have a roster of cool characters?
Did it have some kind of unique thing you can't get anywhere else?
Arguably yes (even if the game's style isn't to my tastes).

Did CotW fucking work?
Did it release at a fair price?
Did it do something do differentiate itself from SF6?
No. End of fucking story.
>>283981
SamSho 2019 was successful because it’s roster and presentation were special, basically it did have a unique thing. Of course then SNK killed it with retarded decisions like Epic exclusivity.

Thank you for proving my point perfectly. You are just as old and out of touch as everyone at SNK. Please kill yourself and stop taking my oxygen.

The Metal Gear Rising memes that you think are meaningless led to one of the biggest waves of popularity and sales the game had outside of its launch window. Is the original "Incorrect Summary of Metal Gear Rising" video cancerous garbage? Yes. But there were a lot of people introduced to MGR and MGS because it existed, and there wasn't a new game being made to cater to these people: they have to drink from the same well as everyone else. Memes and photoshops are effectively advertising through pieces of culture, through memes. Free will is a myth. Religion is a joke.

(You are going to say "wow imagine wanting retarded newfags around" and ignore the previous paragraph.)

Having a poster in your room and buying merchandise is a very direct way to support a developer or a series beyond just putting time into it. The reason you're bringing out this thought-terminating cliche, desperately trying to stop the mental anguish my words are causing you, is because you cannot distinguish between a respectable amount of stuff and a wall full of Funko Pops. The desire to have a poster or a figurine is not bad; it is bad when taking to excess.

This is ignoring the fact nobody fucking plays Fatal Fury, or those who do are simply sitting on Fightcade and not engage with any wider form of culture. People who play Third Strike draw fanart of it all the time and run offline events where players make real personal connections. Nobody has ever done that for Fatal Fury and nobody ever will.

No, they're not, because people are buying into the memes more than the actual content, itself. I’m not even sure what point you’re trying to make. That Fatal Fury is just too old it doesn’t deserve to be revived? Maybe but there was genuine interest in the game when it was first announced. Old ips shouldn’t be treated as blockbuster titles that will magically have a guaranteed bonus in sales compared to new ips because of their history. And you’re right in this, it’s why SNK half assed cotw, thinking the FF name still holds weight. They should’ve made it with the mindset of trying to re-establish their lost market. But instead what I get from you is that it shouldn’t be revived in the first place, which applies to some old titles, but no this one really.
>>284018
>But instead what I get from you is that it shouldn’t be revived in the first place, which applies to some old titles
I didn't pick up on that at all, but I see this as a rule that applies to EVERY piece of media if we're going to discuss this topic.

I'm tired of seeing companies relying upon their "legacy" names to get people interested rather than releasing current products that are actually good and that people want. And this is especially true with companies where the people who made the companies what they are no longer work there. For example, all the people that built up Capcom left to form or work for companies like SNK, Arika, Inti Creates, Dimps, Platinum, and Tango.
>>284018
>I’m not even sure what point you’re trying to make.
Then you're illiterate.

The point I'm making, have made, and will continue to make, is that no amount of marketing can save a game that isn't good and that no amount of good gameplay can save a game that people perceive to be not worth their time. The retards I quoted in >>283981 arguing about the roster of 26-year-old arcade games are so far removed from the heart of the matter they're dying of exsanguination. No, it's not. I don't want companies continuing these products because I want media to actually have a fucking conclusion or ending, and then having them moving on to do other things. For example, according to my argument, SNK shouldn't even be continuing King Of Fighters because Nishiyama left to form Dimps over two and a half decades ago (His most recent fighter contributions being Soul Calibur 6 and The Rumble Fish), and Kawasaki hasn't been involved in vidya at all since Metal Slug 7 on the NDS. Meanwhile you're argument is that people largely "don't care" about a series, and THAT'S why they shouldn't be raked through the coals for shitting on the people that are still fans. And many people have already point out that wasn't the problem. Ignoring my opinions on the matter on what companies should do, City flopped because SNK was making a sequel that appealed to no one. It didn't appeal to the legacy fans with everything from moving away from the 2D sprites to adding in "modern" celeberties. And it doesn't appeal to the "new" fans as it just comes across like a knock-off Street Fighter (Which the series technically is) but with less content. That's not to mention that EVERYONE hates how all modern games are deadset on inserting niggers and unattractive characters everywhere. True, Billy Kane's redesign is fucking garbage, and so is Mai's new costume.
Also apparently they are going to give Joe Higashi some shitty nerd glasses for some dumb reason.

I still think that narcissist sociopath football player Ronaldo might be the worst guest character ever in a fighting game or video games period.

Also to add insult to injury, Kizuna Encounter takes place in southtown in the distant future. So there was an even wider selection of past SNK characters they could have bothered to put in.

Now that would be a cool thing to do.
Savage Reign/Kizuna Encounter's characters are far better than Karate Nigger, Vox, or Preacha.
But probably nu-SNK would've butchered them with shitty redesigns

The reason her face looks different, is that since this is set years after Garou, they wanted her to look less like a girl and more like a woman.

City takes place two years after MotW. You don't develop the cow udders and thunder thighs of a well endowed mother unless you're been spending all that time...well, actually being a mother and pumping out kids like Japan's future depends on it. Hell, she's more developed than even Mai, who, according to the game's canon, we haven't "seen" in over a decade.

And in case you're trying to argue that the "problem" is the shift to 3D graphics, third pic is from KoFMI2 (2006), fourth pic is from KoF All Star (2018), and fifth pic is from KoF15 (2022).

I wouldn't have thought of it that way, but that makes sense. While devs like Capcom or even Sega have been able to slowly adjust with the times (SFV's last 2.5 years were the kind of thing people should examine very closely for historical purposes), SNK has always been too slow to make meaningful changes. Even if SF6 hadn't dragged the genre forward a decade and reminded people why fighting games are fun, SNK isn't capable of looking at their past work and innovating in a meaningful way. The question is never "what can we do to blow people's minds?" and instead it's "what minor change can we make to technically create a new product?"

They don't need to change the genre into something new, but the hardest part is developing a Metal Slug that would feel true to the series in tone and artstyle, considering Nazca is no more.
How would they go with it, making it a 2.5D game, or go with a HD 2D instead?
The risk is to get some soulless trash like when Wayforward made a sequel to River City Ransom that looked and felt NOTHING like the originals, or maybe another "Streets of Rage 4" that would feel cheap and with some shitty "OC donut steel" characters nobody asked for.
Personally, if they could get the OG devs on board, i would be fine with another pixel title, maybe a PROPER Metal Slug 4 to replace that Korean garbage with recycled assets.

The funny thing is that a good old fashioned run-n-gun would be really appealing to a lost of people considering that metroidvanias with blue-purple gradients and allegories for mental illnesses are the default genre for indie games. Level-based games that have branching paths are a lot less common than they used to be and I think having a simple, well-made package at a reasonable price would sell well.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. Feels heavy and slow, which is offputting if you want to play like it's an old game where nothing has any whiff recovery. Moves are much more committal, and it's much easier to combo off of random hits due to Drive Rush. The devs put a lot of effort into making sure the moves and mechanics Just Work so that you aren't fighting your character or the input buffer or any of the traditional fighting game stuff.

Despite that, it's still a very deep game with a lot of fun ways to optimize combos. It becomes a bit of a Medium Kick Drive Rush/Projectile Drive Rush simulator at super high levels of play, but there are a lot of different ways to succeed and you'll have a lot of fun along the way.

The soundtrack mostly sucks ass, though. Use the SF6 Jukebox mod to replace it.

Metal Slug 5 was unfortunately rushed to release. It had a lot of cut content and a sliding mechanic that was more frustrating than useful.

Metal Slug 6 was decent but a bit lacking in the audio area. Namiki's remixes were a snoozefest and they really blasted out the bullet sound effects for some reason.

Metal Slug 7, on the other hand, combined the engaging scoring system introduced in 6 with a ton of creative levels and some really fun bosses. From a balanced perspective 7 is actually one of the best games in the entire series. The Nazca team is gone from the industry but the devs behind 7 clearly had a lot of respect for its history. It's a shame SNK never followed up on 7 because they really had a talented team behind it.
>>284578
Actual Metal Slug fans did. In fact I would go so far as to say the only people who dismissed them are fake "fans" who never bothered to 1CC or scoreplay the games. The people who hold up the original Nazca trilogy as flawless masterpieces while dismissing 6 and 7 are especially annoying.

>What about all the other Metal Slug games released after 4?
I never played 7, but 5 is the one i liked the most out of 4, 5, and 6.
To me it felt the most faithful to the series.
4 replaced Tarma and Eri with their bootleg version, was almost entirely made with recycled assets, and was kinda boring, as it felt morr like a lazy rom hack than an actual official entry.
Music was good though.
6 added unnecessary stats as if Metal Slug of all games needed "depth", the stages instead of looking detailed like in previous games were washed out and no longer interactive, classic sound effects were replaced with ones that sounded worse (especially the enemy soldiers' screams) and those shitty real time shadows made the game look flatter than in the past.
I never played 7, nor XX that i suppose is the revised version of the same game, correct me if i am wrong.
I must say that the artwork in XX fits the game better than Shinkiro's cover that looked too proportioned and realistic for a cartoon game like Metal Slug
I think 5 was pretty good, not as good as the Nazca trilogy, but good enough.
I wonder what that cut content was supposed to be, maybe it SNK delayed the game and released complete, MAYBE it could have been on par with the Nazca games.
>>284577
>but the Nintendo approach, where their games are still platformers but modern and appeal to both zoomers and boomers
No, they don't. Nintendo's approach is to dumb shit down for the younger generation while including enough references and fanservice to satisfy the legacy fans (That they haven't pissed off in the past decade years) who worship the very ground they stand upon. Nintendo does the exact same shit as Pedowood, but they get a pass because they're Nintendo.

So, all this fightan game nostalgia has gotten me thinking about all the cool shit that brought me into them in the first place, that being all the various ways each character could kick ass. And that got me speculating on just about one of the oldest questions around when it comes to fiction; what powers would I want in real life?

So I'm going to ask you this, anons: 'If you could have the opportunity to learn and maybe eventually master a fighting style from your favorite games, which would you chose?'

I think that in this current moment of ruminating on it, I'd probably chose Guile and Charlie's version of MCMAP. It's solid, has good defensive and offensive options, Charlie's style shows that you can personalize it and create some new techniques as you gain mastery in it, and it doesn't come with any kind of spiritual corruption or bloodlust temptation like the standard like that Ansatsuken stuff or whatever it's called now.

New / Final BnHA Arena Fighter announced; going off of previous roster + other developments, it's set to have a base roster of at least 65 playable characters minimum (51 from the previous game, 6 from the gacha, 8 from the announcement), before any formal reveals / alternate movesets which will probably bump it up to ~75. New main gameplay addition seems to be 3 character tag team element.

More creative than concise.
They will never, ever be competitive like most fightan enjoyers prefer, with the amount of ways you can break it over your knee (from wall gravity resets, to low-meteor combos, to assist wakeups, to unreliable physics) (even before the flaws of the whole arena fighter subgenre - the arcsys KlK fighting game proved almost without a shadow of a doubt that no matter how hard it tries, it's never going to happen); but all the characters feel extremely distinct from one another, and have very creative ways their superpowers are implemented (eg, there's a guy who can mindcontrol people if they respond to him, in-game he revolves around baiting out the enemy's voicelines when performing actions to make openings), so instead of a roster of 30 slim variants on one another, everyone plays extremely differently into and against each other.
That said, for the most part if follows the philosophy of "if everyone is broken, it's on you to navigate it". Basically every character can break the game in some way, but none of them can do it in every way, so it comes down to game knowledge exploiting genuine flaws, rather than complex solitaire combos / footsies. The few bad characters are more due to them having questionable tracking that can drop their own combos / mess with their intiations, than actual weak movesets or low-tuned damage.

My main reason I like it is honestly the neutralgame (both in terms of initiation, and managing your resources of guard + assist + ultimate), it's far tighter than anyone gives it credit for, since most are more divided on the more visibly obvious floaty chains & physics. That, and combo inputs being more straightforward means it's much easier to pick up a different character when you get bored. It's just the right amount of "serious casual" that I like, and does away with most of the framedata autism that I don't have the time to learn or the energy to care about at times.
Keep in mind, I did say it was a guilty pleasure; if it sounds shit to you, have at it, I'm not denying it's not flawed or evenly balanced (in fact, I like it's flaws and uneven balance). I wouldn't recommend playing either of the previous games now the new one is announced, the single-player portions are unfettered dogshit because the AI is a joke and campaign presentation is lazy, there are definite unwinnable matchups with how much characters vary, and matchmaking has two categories of either "obvious kid" or "knows how to break the game as much as you", with no inbetween.
That said, I do really need to emphasise that the official models for the girls have some great porn.

This has always been the cry of the scrub. I know maybe half a dozen pieces of frame data in the games I actively play. In the gootage you posted, the first 30 seconds after round start are two combos; if there's a burst or combo breaker mechanic I'm missing then that's different, but it really doesn't look like it's set apart from most anime arena fighters.

Of course I have no personal connection to MHA so the fanservice means nothing to me unless you can unlock a bikini costume for froppy.

It's part of the we've ran out of ideas and are too lazy to incorporate them into one of the previous factions like we did with romans / polynesian outlander faction; along with other subversive history rewrites such as
>Medjay (literal we wuz n shiet, the niggest nog to ever grace the depiction of an egyptian)
>Afeera (arabic mace wielder, except it's a woman fighter set from the peak of fundamentalist islam played completely seriously)
>Ocelotl (surprisingly accurate and normal aztec dude)
>Khatun (mongolian, except it's a woman in the biggest rape-empire in human history and she's a sabre-wielding edgelord assassin instead of a simple orkish horse-archer)
They really lost the plot hard. There's also the funny one of adding a female-locked Byzantine rep for the Norse (Varangian Guard, the deliberately imported foreign legion of nordic/slavic emperors-guardsmen to ensure political neutrality) who were literally historically recorded to have never had a single female under that title in their 5 centuries of relatively well-recorded history. Shame, because for the first year or so on release, it was a cute title that got a lot of nice /his/ memes, and you could tell it was the last gasp of a studio that was being subverted by people who were incapable of even standing still on the shoulders of giants to just collect a free paycheck. Right down it being the last major title I remember in recent memory that had dedicated P2P for longevity, before all the normalfags whined that they wanted a centralised GAAS.

I wonder why Jewbisoft got exactly what it deserved and is still continuing to receive what it fucking deserves as we speak.

"Free SNK From The Saudi Royal Family" - Fans Aren't Pleased About Fatal Fury's Celebrity Fighters

>Back in 2022, SNK producer Yasuyuki Oda insisted that its acquisition by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund wouldn't have any impact on the games it made, but recent events appear to have proven that statement to be utterly false—and SNK fans aren't happy.
>First came the news that footballer Cristiano Ronaldo would be joining the game. Putting aside the fact that Ronaldo is totally out of place in a Fatal Fury game, many fans have pointed out that, despite his high level of fame and achievement, the footballer is mired in controversy; he was accused of rape in 2017 (the case was eventually dismissed in 2022) and, also in 2017, was charged with tax evasion, ending up with a two-year suspended jail sentence and a €16.8 million fine.
<Despite Oda's assurances back in 2022, many people have pointed out that Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman's ownership of Al Nassr FC (the football club Ronaldo currently plays for) is surely no coincidence. The Crown Prince is also the lead figure in Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which owns a majority share in SNK.
>Then, this week, it was revealed that DJ Salvatore Ganacci—who, surprise, is apparently quite close to the Saudi Royal Family and has performed at various events in Saudi Arabia—would be joining Fatal Fury's cast.
>This news has been met with almost as much vitriol as the Ronaldo announcement.

As for Ganacci, he funded the game, and demanded to be included.

What do you negroes think of the UMvC3 roster? There were some egregious additions on the vanilla MvC3 Capcom side rastafari faggot from a shovelware title, two Ryus, woman from latest SF, RE5 Jill, no megameng, Hsien-Ko over a male Darkstalker rep, and Joe and a fucking dog over Gene and the additions on the capeshit side on Ultimate were movie and TV advertisements, but the batshit bizarre picks and the variety are pretty endearing, plus some of the more strange characters like Red Arremer and some heavyweights not being pushovers for once.

Mai's new outfit is covering up skin which is what companies normally use to censor female parts. It is an outfit that is sexually revealing but still an outfit that does not expose as much skin as the original one which gives the implication that they are trying to remove sexuality from the game, and in turn, remove sexuality from all videogames and art. It is not blatant but it is a small step which is why my opinion (not sure if I'm the only one) gets so much push back but the slippery slope shows that it is not a fallacy or a conspiracy.

>>286010
>this different flavor of sexy that makes perfect sense in context and doesn't replace the original design
It did replace the original design. You cannot use the original Mai costume in game and what I said still stands and you are wrong. I said that this is the slippery slope to remove sexuality in games that people would deny like you are doing right now.
>and video games and whites and Epstein and WHAARGARG
I'm trying to say that the world thinks that taking your anime girl exposure and implementing restrictions of the common man's freedom of expression is going to save it, but with all the connections of saudi oil money won't be put in the actual ousting of the big sex trafficking ring the world elites use. But you are so happy to miss the point and make this a meta thread about black pill so you aren't taking this conversation seriously.
I want sexy characters and I want it improved in games today. Just because I notice the reduction of sexuality shouldn't make me a target of anyone. But here we are.

That is the full extent of censorship which had not been present before. Notably the tummy is now shown when it had not been before, but tummy isn't explicitly sexual so I only mention it as an observation and initially as a light hearted ribbing.

While looking up iterations of Mai I came across her alternative outfit for Maximum Impact which is pretty cute. Short hair is nice but throws me off. Is that really Mai? I guess so.

You're right.
As can be seen by a simple glance of the various designs Mai has gone through the only thing missing now is the skin of the limbs being visible. If your concern about censorship is ligaments being put being cloth I consider you an idiot and/or a bitch. You have no point and just want to act like what you may very well be which is a bitch. Go fuck yourself you stupid cunt, the Mai outfit isn't any sort of move toward censorship and if it is then PROVE IT FAGGOT. If you fail to prove such then you will have proven something, that something being that you are an intellectual fraud pretending like you give a shit about something you care too little about to have even a single substantiated point.
If you would like me to say this more simply I will give you this - Long sleeves and pants alone aren't censorship. It is impossible for you to prove that Mai never had costumes where the new costume in COTW shows less, beyond her limbs. You are an idiot. Fuck off with your false tears.

Any good tl;dr resources on Smash Ultimate / a QRD on the basic gimmicks & notable strengths of each character? Local /tg/ place is starting to host a few games each weekend, and I don't want to be completely fish-out-of-water; but everything either seems to be excessive information on all truecombos at every % for 30 minutes, or if you main Mario.... you're THAT guy at the normalfag party'. No middle ground for people who don't have time to play all the characters to get a gist.
Literally either an infographic with 1 paragraph per, or a video that touches on each character for like 30 seconds is all I'm after, along the lines of
>Yoshi is an easy-to-play character that has good aerial. He can flutterjump to get some superarmor while in the air (along with good juggle, good recovery and a dangerous DAir), and turns into an egg on block greatly reducing your ability to shield stab him.

Nadeko is a bit spotty so replace with your YouTube frontend of choice. The series is pretty long due to the game having 90-something characters and the actual meta of the game wasn't truly figured out at the time it was made, but all the other videos will be overproduced slop or underproduced slop made for people already plugged into the scene.

Are you going to be in a bracket or playing for fun on the couch?

I fully understand Smash's stigma (and it's deserved) (I'm not a smashfag), but I couldn't think of anywhere else topical to ask aside from QDDTOT, and figured this might have a better chance. And no, not ELO shit, just a party-game level after-session thing for fun. I just know there's a few leddit-grade hall monitor cunts there that are probably going to read way too much into it and abuse some niche cheese so I'd just like to quietly put a stopper on their bullshit without anyone else noticing if they try to start it. Hence why I just need a tl;dr on what to look out for, and not how to do it myself. Played it a bit as a kid, so I should still have the fundies down to perform otherwise, but it's just going to be shooting the shit over some drinks if possible.

I read up some things about the design of Primal Rage and the back and forth between the playtesters and developers regarding the game's overall perception of difficulty and how they ultimately ended up making something that was enjoyable for a seasoned member of the FGC community while still allowing inexperienced players to occasionally get in a cool combo by mashing buttons and thus feel like they weren't complete shit even if they actually were.
Given that Primal Rage is well regarded by the normalniggersphere and I haven't seen Anons here decry it as a meme or otherwise call it garbage, did Atari in 1994 succeed where modern shareholder-management aiming to broaden player demographics by simplifying mechanics has repeatedly failed?

The problem with switching to this horrible ultrarealistic art "style" is that characters lose all the personality they might have had in the previous games. Ugly or not, that's just a generic face that could be anyone. Without context, I could never be able to tell if that's Chun Li or some rejected Tekken/Virtua Fighter character candidate. It's a double whammy because Chun is a legacy character.

That’s never been said. What they said is that they’re making a new AoF alongside SamSho RPG.
I thought it would be a non fighter since it was advertised alongside an RPG, but now that they’re making a tournament for it, it’s probably is a fighter. Retarded decision, if FF was a dead ip, then AoF is deader than dead.

I think Harada is the Inafune of the series, meaning someone who was a part of the dev team that is now taking way too much credit, even for the good stuff other people did.
Replies: >>287820

The devil stuff was always going to be DBZ, it didn’t change midway.
>>287813
Tekken 3 which Harada worked on was entirely different to Tekken 1 and Tekken 2. So I don’t think he was a guy that just took more credit.
Btw did you know he’s from Osaka? And Asuka is also from Osaka, he created her after his hometown, and even named her Asuka, which is the name of a river where his parents live close by.
So what am I getting at? In Tekken 5 there was a push for Jin to be with Asuka, especially with the fact that she’s a Kazama and has the power to pacify the devil genes. Jin is Harada’s favorite so obviously he was behind it all.
But what happened after Tekken 5? Asuka was shelved completely from the story, it’s as if she doesn’t know Jin at all. And Xiaoyu was reintroduced as Jin’s love interest.
Harada’s opinion regarding Xiaoyu:
>Tekken: Blood Vengeance screenwriter Dai Satō said in 2011 that he had chosen her as one of the two lead characters because he felt she "symbolized the older Tekken games".
>Katsuhiro Harada was surprised by the decision to use Xiaoyu, believing she was not that popular within the main demography.

So from all those information I don’t think he has full power over Tekken’s cast and story, I think they even fucked him over multiple times.

Good little addition, Why don't any other games do stuff like this? Many series with plenty of games in their catalog to do something similar. Can't be hard at all, just make a menu option and add the 33 byte sound files. Seeing it be done, you wonder why it isn't already an expected standard. It's so obvious.
As a side note, I'm enjoying the trials they keep adding on to. Fun stuff. Off to clear some EOST after having learned that each character will unlock a pattern for color edit.
Gameplay for the sequel of ABK.

What's the deal with most oddball characters in FGs being generally godawful in their own games? Specially considering how it's a given the lore relevant big guy is going to be overpowered.
It's tiring how devs go this extra mile to make sure their OC donut steel edgelords have the most overwhelming abilities instead of letting you have fun.
>>288664
The oddball character you posted was so broken in T6 that he ruined an EVO top 8.
>>288664
I remember rufus being top tier in SFIV for a long time. But yeah a lot of "oddballs" fall into the tradition of "joke characters" which usually means they are bad. This is probably because having a character that goes against the grain of the game be top tier means you'll have to fight them often which isn't usually fun when the novelty wears off.

I think fighting games need more variety on their roster, first you had different type of characters like the cool guy (usually the protagonist see Ryu or Terry Bogard) The old martial art master, the fat fuck, the big mountain of muscle, the freak...
Nowadays it's mostly twink faggots with the same body and just a different hair cut, especially in KoF, which makes the roster uninteresting and dull.
Even the female characters should have more variety, like the seductress with the voluptuous body, the fit girl with abs, the teen girl, the crazy chick...
Nowadays such variety is disappearing, which is why for instance a game like Garou isn't as interesting as Real Bout.
If anything, while i never liked Bob particularly, i think fighting games need more "odd" characters like that.

It's not only about the body type :^) but the age group and personality as well. Older games used to have developers experimenting much more with different tropes and archetypes and seeing what stuck and didn't. Nowadays male characters however seem to all fit into the same mold of pretentious jackass and girls to be cautiously attractive. Hence, the teen characters can't be bratty, the old farts can't be decrepit or unkempt, the fat and the ugly, sanitized and lolis entirely verboten.
Case in point, consider these two old man designs from the 90s with these other two old men designed in the current year.

I mean look at pic related, these two look like the same character but with different hair color.
Same physique, similar stance and mannerism...
When everybody on your roster tries so hard to be cool no one is.
Khronen is an example of forgettable character design, holy shit he is so dull and generic.
I agree with you about old men being portrayed as young people but with grey/white hair, and that is the same issue, meaning characters looking the fucking same.
I mean, i was playing Tekken 7 the other day, and i noticed that all the female characters share the same body (textures and everything) except for the head.

That's a longstanding Tekken issue that affects every character: all the women have the exact same physique and all the men except King and Marduk have the exact same muscles. They've been doing this since at least Tekken 5 or 6.

Thank god. I assume what they tried to do was make her more "stocky" than a normal Japanese woman because she's the "Osaka brute" type. They were probably going for something like the body of a joshi wrestler like pic related, but instead they failed and ended up making her look like a tranny instead.
Especially since most women in Tekken would already have that body type by default, by making her more stocky she just ended up looking like a man with tits glued on. Now if only they can fix how abnormally fucking big her hands are next.

All of the mid-level offline events that could have stepped up into that have shut down due to rising costs, inflation, and the FGC being a bunch of cheap niggers who followed the weed money to big sponsors. Netplay being actually good has enabled a lot of people to have "online scenes" and improve, which is good, but it also somewhat detracts from the commitment to the community that offline scenes required.

Yeah, that'll probably be what happens. All the previously extant mid-sized events got their starts in a similar way or in a similar arcade.

SF6 has been pretty fun, but the money grubbing is offputting and irksome. I've also finally gotten somewhat tired of the Medium Kick Drive Rush simulator gameplay because it creates this intersection of easy combos and powerful oki and limited ways to downgrade the situation on defense.

Sagat has been cool, Viper looks cool, and I'm looking forward to Alex and Ingrid later in the year. But I'm not taking anywhere near as seriously as I used to. Back to my old anime games and Discord matchmaking.

Some random fighting game stuff:

Pulled the trigger on trying a hitbox and damn, do I like it. I've never enjoyed stick and have been using a Hori Commander Octa until now, but the hitbox just feels so right. I got and played with it a little today and it feels really intuitive despite being completely new. Movement is so much faster and you can be a lot more erratic. For me, I feel like I've found my FG peripheral and I'm sticking to it.

After playing with COTW for a while and still feeling a little unsatisfied on the 2D front, I picked up Phantom Breaker Omnia on sale for a whole 2$. It's a super niche and nearly dead game, but I actually quite like it. All the specials are just simple directionals, but it gives the player more options like being able to dodge, parry and move through the opponent. I think it really does stand on its own and doesn't resemble anything else, which is a good thing. I hope Mages makes a sequel.

Also the 360 had fighting games like a bunch of Blazblue games, KOF13, Samurai Shodown Sen, Soul Caliber, Guilty Gear, and Arcana Hearts too, its hardly the only weeb fighter on it.
Plus all the more mainstream stuff like Street Fighter, Tekken, Naruto/DBZ games, and Marvel vs Capcom were on it too.

Yeah, the games. However the anime for both series came out, in the West, the same year as the first edition of Phantom Breaker back in 2011. Then we had the manga, too, in time for Battle Grounds and Extra by 2013.

Does NO ONE remember all those games that where their first exposure for foreigners was through their manga/anime adaptations; like Culdcept, Shuffle!, and even Idolmaster?
I really hope the next 2D Dragonball Z fighter isn't made by ArcSys. I know a lot of people like them, but I personally think their games suck and their characters always feel like shit to control. DBZ Sparking Zero has been alright, though and continues to improve.

Also fighting game news. How do people feel about Mike Z being one of the game directors for the new Avatar the Last Airbender fighting game?
I say good for him. Hes one of the most notable fighting game developers in the west. I'm not so sure about game meta and mechanics he would implement but I don't think the lifespan of this game will be long in the public concious. Since the game is being developed with the Them Fighting Herds team which used the skullgirls engine, he would be the exact fit. I wasn't expecting a 10/10 game from it but with the limited budget and scale it seems like a good setup for a solid game to be developed.

>How do people feel about Mike Z being one of the game directors for the new Avatar the Last Airbender fighting game?
I hadn't paid any attention to the game after it's trailer launched so this was news to me. Honestly I don't care, he seemed to do fine on that Diesel legacy project, at least to the effect that he learned to not let shit get smeared over social media. So more power to him I suppose.
>Hes one of the most notable fighting game developers in the west.
That's a really small sample size to work with. There aren't that many active western fighting games anymore and fewer who seem to have prominent developers like GG or Tekken do. Mike only garnered so much attention when his company was burning to the ground.

So you'd probably have Ed Boon with MK but I don't even know what he does at the company anymore and that MK1 sucked ass. Killer Instinct, but I can't really put a name to the Iron Galaxy Studios besides Adam Heart and that would be after googling things. Maybe the Cannon Brothers back in their Rising Thunder days but I haven't heard much out of either since 2XKO went into development. David Sirlin (thankfully) seems to have fallen off the face of the earth and is just pushing a board game version of his card game. And even the Mane6 Devs are known more as a group than any standout individual from all that I saw. So that leaves a bunch of indie fighters like YOMI Hustle and Punch Planet which do have single devs but are so niche nobody would reasonably know who they are.

Anyways. I hope the Avatar game is at least decent. I'm fond of the franchise.

>didn't bother including his statement

I’d like to share that I’ll be leaving Bandai Namco at the end of 2025.
With the TEKKEN series reaching its 30th anniversary—an important milestone for a project I’ve devoted much of my life to—I felt this was the most fitting moment to bring one chapter to a close.

My roots lie in the days when I supported small local tournaments in Japanese arcades and in small halls and community centers overseas.
I still remember carrying arcade cabinets by myself, encouraging people to “Please try TEKKEN,” and directly facing the players right in front of me.
The conversations and atmosphere we shared in those places became the core of who I am as a developer and game creator.

Even as the times changed, those experiences have remained at the center of my identity.
And even after the tournament scene grew much larger, many of you continued to treat me like an old friend—challenging me at venues, inviting me out for drinks at bars.
Those memories are also deeply precious to me.
In recent years, I experienced the loss of several close friends in my personal life, and in my professional life I witnessed the retirement or passing of many senior colleagues whom I deeply respect.
Those accumulated events made me reflect on the “time I have left as a creator.”
During that period, I sought advice from Ken Kutaragi—whom I respect as though he were another father—and received invaluable encouragement and guidance.
His words quietly supported me in making this decision.

Over the past four to five years, I’ve gradually handed over all of my responsibilities, as well as the stories and worldbuilding I oversaw, to the team, bringing me to the present day.
Looking back, I was fortunate to work on an extraordinary variety of projects—VR titles (such as Summer Lesson), Pokkén Tournament, the SoulCalibur series, and many others, both inside and outside the company.
Each project was full of new discoveries and learning, and every one of them became an irreplaceable experience for me.
To everyone who has supported me, to communities around the world, and to all the colleagues who have walked alongside me for so many years, I offer my deepest gratitude.
I’ll share more about my next steps at a later date.
Thank you very much for everything.

【Postscript】
Although I will be leaving the company at the end of 2025, Bandai Namco has asked me to appear at the TWT Finals at the end of January 2026, so I expect to attend as a guest.

For 30 years I kept saying, “I’ll do it someday,” and never once performed as a DJ at a tournament event.
So instead, I will be releasing—for the first and last time—a 60-minute TEKKEN DJ-style nonstop mix (DJ mix), personally edited by myself, together with this announcement.

https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2Fsoundcloud%253Atracks%253A2225928260

Listening to it brings back many memories.
Thank you again, sincerely, for all these years.

The big ones are:
- Street Fighter 6
- Guilty Gear Strive (don't play this)
- Melty Blood Type Lumina
- Under Night 2: Sys Celes
- Granblue Fantasy VS Rising (there's a free version with a few rotating characters you can try out)
- 2XKO (League of Legends spinoff with kernel-level anticheat spyware)
- Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves (mostly dead unless you're chasing esports money)
- Dragon Ball Fighterz (somehow still going since releasing in 2018)

Marvel Tokon is an upcoming 2D fighter which is going to be an evolution of traditional tag fighters, where you choose 4 characters, start with 1 on point and 1 as an assist, and unlock the other 2 by performing wall breaks/certain combos. It's probably going to be quite shallow but it looks pretty.

This is all assuming you aren't some troglodyte who calls SF6 a 3D fighting game because it has 3D graphics.

Under Night 2 is a 2D fightan as well, same devs as the previous. That being said,
>no Nero nothing
>no Sacchin
>no Lem
>almost every original Melty Blood OCs except Miyako got axed
>Roa got a lame haircut
>you have to pay for Neco Arc
then you mar your comparatively tiny roster with characters from
<a gacha
<said gacha has no ties or relevance to Tsukihime
<these characters aren't even staples of Type-MOON but literally whos who won some popularity contest years ago
Surely Nasu hasn't finished the remake to the second half of the VN which might never come out considering the plot but inserting some nobodies from the remake and FGO advertisements having gutted out most recognizable faces isn't going to win much people over on what's already a niche franchise.

I don't like fighting games, the last fighting game that I've played and enjoyed was MK9 because the single player story mode, I've tried GGXRD Rev 2 this year, the the story mode was just a VN where nothing happens and the arcade mode was not fun.
I like the gameplay of fighting games, I don't mind movement input, I don't like it because devs don't add single player content for non competitive players, if you don't play multiplayer or versus there is nothing to do in these games, 99% of the genre is dead for me.
SF6 has an single player mode but I don't like the aesthetics, I need to check SC3, I heard there is a strategy mode in the game.
>>297337
Try out Tobal 1 and 2. They've got some fun in the dungeon crawling modes if you can stomach the navigation controls. 2nd one's much more complex but the 1st one's simplicity's charming as well.

I'm the same way, I love FGs, but absolutely hate competitive and online play. It's way worse now than it was in the 00's because back then FGs NEEDED single player content to be sold, now they'll just give you a 5 hour singleplayer story mode and they never add anything else besides characters who have no story relevancy, see DOA5/6 and Tekken 7/8. The bare minimum was arcade mode with ending cutscenes for every character and they barely even do that now, T8's DLC characters can't even be played in arcade mode. Remember when T6 had that really cool streets of rage beat em up mode?
>SC3
Make sure you get the arcade edition romhack for SC3 because its vanilla balancing is actual bullshit. Some matchups in vanilla are borderline impossible to win, like Valeria vs Nightmare.
With the arcade balancing and all of the console release's singleplayer content, it makes SC3 easily one of the best fighting games ever made.
Also SC6 has a pretty meaty SP mode too, campaigns for all characters, including the DLC ones plus a decently long one where you make your own character.

Online and competitive is essentially only for little kids and grandpa who basically mastered the mechanics and strategical thinking inside his head that he could beat 20 years.
And that's why i unironically avoid the genre because essentially if you are an casual player who just wants to have some fun and learn the combos and mechanics and beat an AI with some story content and replayable modes. there's fuck all for that.

I spend most of my time playing singleplayer and other genres instead like puyo puyo instead if not emulating.

All the characters and updates to Type Lumina have been free; it's by far the least scummy modern FG, which I respect immensely even if the art style doesn't really do it for me. I wouldn't call the roster tiny either. It currently has 22 characters, and I think the mid-20s is the absolute meaningful maximum for any 2D fighting game.

>sage in the name field
Shameful.
>I've tried GGXRD Rev 2 this year, the the story mode was just a VN where nothing happens and the arcade mode was not fun.
Hey, there's that part near the end where Sol jumps like a hundred miles to do a giant falcon punch. That was pretty cool despite the story itself sucking major ass.

As for single player stuff, 3D fighting games have always had the edge in that department, and DoA was always the king. Soul Calibur's weapon master mode was also a high bar since it actually changed the parameters of fights to encourage you to change your style and learn how the systems worked.

"Dedicating time" to a "hobby" is one thing, and that's cool, wasting your entire days to learn and master all the ins and outs of a game's mechanics, frame data and exploits, maybe even using only a single character, is not "dedicating time" but wasting time, and at that point it stops being simply a "hobby" but it turns into a full time job, and thus not fun.

Skullgirls had something similar. The frame meter is a great way to visualize frame data, and in numbers-centric games it helps to have an exact record of that. Consistency is key, as is having an idea what to practice. Spending more than an hour in training mode is usually the sign of a bad learner who is just wasting time.

Coming from SFV, which had the slow and heavy problem, I appreciate SF6 allowing people to turn green and run fast. I have a lot of fun with the game but the lack of balance patches and the stale core gameplay have soured me on it in recent months and I've gone back to old anime games with Discord matchmaking because I'd rather lose 17 games to Sol Badguy whiffing j.H than get knowledge checked once by Kimberly.

I know where that costume comes from, my point is that she looks like a completely different character, if the kept at least her long brown hair then maybe she would have been still recognizable.
The costume itself is not bad, although still inferior to the original, but the short black hair ruin it.
It would be like giving Blue Mary long black hair tied back in a braid.

Tasteless and unashamedly so.

It looks great but at the cost of making her look more unrecognizable. Then again, she is a kunoichi after all.

This anon gets it.
It's not a bad design, generally speaking.
But with those changes she simply stops being Mai Shiranui.

That's on SNK for never stepping up their character designs over "people with clothes". When you remove the clothes the character is gone.

Welp, I went through a lot of 2D fighters looking for the right one...almost all of them, in fact. All the SNK series, Melty Blood, Street Fighter, Phantom Breaker, Mortal Kombat and other NRS derivatives, DBZ Fighterz, all the other Arc System Works derivatives.....and found that my favorite of all is The Rumble Fish games. The animation style is completely different from everything else and apparently each limb is separate from one another and it's like some kind of marionette. The cool part about this is that the characters can take damage and have their appearance altered, like wounds, torn clothes, blood, etc. It's the only 2D fighter I've played that feels better than SNK fighters. The unfortunate thing is that it's always been a cult game and is basically dead, so I'll never get to play it competitively. As such, my search for a 2D fighter for that purpose is over. I found what I was looking for, but will never get to fully enjoy it unless Dimps get's the irrational idea in their head to make a Rumble Fish 3.

Completely off topic, but where does this word come from? It's not an onomatopoeia, it's not derived from "Whelp" which is a small and weak animal. Is it just a contraction of the word "Well" with a lisp of a "P" put on the end for dramatic effect?

Huh, well there you go! Thanks, now I'll feel a little less akward about writing it, though I'm probably just going to keep it to character dialogue.

I liked the part where they hugged and decided to become best friends and help each other improve their skills.

>the philosophy of "if everyone is broken, it's on you to navigate it". Basically every character can break the game in some way, but none of them can do it in every way, so it comes down to game knowledge exploiting genuine flaws, rather than complex solitaire combos / footsies.
ArcSys made this lol Sailor RunInUranus really does everything

The game is jank as fuck. Everyone has their own brand of cheese in addition to the broken base mechanics. Basically you play it by ear to reverse uno 4D chess bullshit your way to a zero HP bar. If you don't know your opponent and how they navigate the gay your throw spams will be counteredif you let Chibi Moon escape at crit hp she'll spam her ballsack on your face till submission, 9:45 for that, for example

forgot, desperation moves also unlock when the timer is below 10. Chibi Moon's back dash can stall till doomsday. If you want that throw spam you need knowledge and effort. This assumes your opponent knows how to play their character, of course

Sailor Moon S is a fun game, but why are you replying to a six-month-old post talking about a My Hero Academia arena fighter?

I guess games are meant to be broken then because any game made after 200x is probably not worth playing in comparison to what came before it.
