With the release of Dragon Dogma 2 itsuno immediately resigned from Capcom and started his own studio. This was the first clue that there’s definitely something. So what could’ve ticked Itsuno-san off?
At first I had completely nothing and probably we will never know officially, but some internet users noticed Monster Hunter Wilds reused some Dragon Dogma 2 animations, and since it released 1 year after they clearly were developed at the same time, not only this Dragon Dogma 2 looks better than MHW visually, as if the team of MHW was actually dedicated to DD2 at first.

What also struck me about the state of DD2 release is how barebones it was, like it’s not a sequel at all, like they stopped adding content midway and went to release it as is.
Now you might think it’s all ramblings with no concrete evidence, but here’s a catch, the producer of MHW is the son of Capcom’s CEO and founder Ryozo Tsujimoto. So you can imagine how he can get his way. also people pointed out that it’s very hard to get wine in DD2 and could be a reference to the Tsujimotos being stingy since they own a vineyard
So the scenario probably goes like this
>Itsuno gathers a team to make an open world rpg game called DD2
>MHW development starts a year after and they take resources and developers from DD2
>Itsuno feels insulted and disrespected more so since it’s the Tsujimotos
>stop being involved in the game but stays to make sure it doesn’t get cancelled
Makes sense to me atleast. Don’t get me wrong I still think Itsuno was partly at blame because 100% he could’ve released a better game, but he got too fee up with capcom that he fucked over his fans too in the process.
