The blue blur himself.

>Sonic X Shadow Generations
Pretty good. I wish we got a stage dedicated to Shadow 05, and more bosses, but for what it is, It's awesome.
After replaying it so much, playing base Generations takes some getting used. Being able to turn in an instant feels way more natural. I still love base Generations, but I love the new control scheme in this and Frontiers.
The budget increase from Frontiers is quite apparent. While I'll always miss the stylization of the Dreamcast era, the game does look quite good. This was also, as far as I know, made by the B-Team, so I'm excited to see what the new, bigger A-team will make, probably in the sequel to Frontiers.
The bosses were great, specially Mephiles and Devil Doom. I love the new format of making Act 1 fully 3D, and Act 2 fully 2D. If they make more boost games, they should stick to that.
I liked the story too. Not as dramatic as I thought it would be, from the Dark Beginnings prologue, but still able to take itself seriously.
All in all, a great step for the franchise.

>Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)
Much, much better than movie 1 and 2. So good.
The closest comparison that leaps to mind is a 90s Dragon Ball Z movie. Not only because of the Super Saiyan climax, but the movie itself is very fast-paced, action-packed and doesn't allow for much room to breathe, for better or for worse. I'll gladly take it over the wedding scenes in 2 though.
Some people find Ben Schwartz's Sonic "cringy", but aside from a couple of jokes, I liked both the voice and character. It feels like it has gotten better as the movies go on.
The CGI is gorgeous to look at, specially in the big screen. The difference between this and the first movie is night and day.
Shadow's story was great. You can tell he feels conflicted on what to do throughout the whole movie. He never feels evil, just, again, conflicted, as he should, consumed with anger by Maria's death, and pushed to vengeance by Gerald.
Speaking of, Jim Carrey was the star of the movie. I didn't expect Robotnik to have such an important role, and such a great arc. I hope they bring him back for 4. Hopefully as an AU version of him from the bad future, as to not ruin his sacrifice in 3.
I really hope 4 is at least better than 2, even if it doesn't reach the same heights as 3. I have hopes they'll let Amy have a crush on Sonic, but that hope may be foolish. We'll see.

>Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
Not much to say at the moment, since it isn't out, and I didn't play the network test.
Just that it looks leagues better than TSR. It's obvious that we're out of that safe, watered down, meta era of the 2010s, when even a racing spin-off has more interesting gimmicks and stages than most of that decade.
They're also adding other SEGA characters, so I can't wait to race as Kiryu.
Can't wait to check it out.

Also, did you know Chris Chan is traveling to Finland and fucking his girlfriend by selling terrible chinese plushies on his Etsy and making aprox. half a million bucks.

Ok since fucking when and why? How fucking low can you go as a woman to want to fuck balding man-child benjamin franklin.
Anyways...I'm finger crossing that sega won't try and be a bitch by sending a DMCA against the Unleashed PC port.
Something in my gut tells me they either feel a shamed of Unleashed or they think it's not worth re-releasing it despite people saying some positive things about it (only a couple of them bitching only about werehog stages which are fine I guess. Honestly one way the werehog stages can be fixed is by getting rid of the fucking jazz music and replacing with appropriate fight music.) It's already annoying that 360, PS3, and PS2 of Sonic Unleashed has been DMCA'd by Sega themselves
And also rip Sticks the Badger. She has been completely scrubbed off from main sonic games, even though she's been mentioned once in forces it seems like Sega wants nothing to do with the Sonic Boom game ever again.

I doubt that is the case. They've been putting out stuff of 06, Shadow 05, and even Secret Rings as of late. I think they're are done feeling guilt over their past games. If you want some piece of hope, Jakks released a Werehog figure a couple of months ago.
I don't see them bringing back Sticks though, unfortunately. I can only hope for at least a figure, since the one TOMY made, when they had the license, was awful.

Unleashed Recompiled is turning Unleashed from a B- to a solid A for me.
It runs so silky smooth. I'm even enjoying the Werehog stages a lot more, since you can turn off the jazz battle music that plays after every encounter.

Has anyone tried running the Unleashed recomp at or close to its minimum specs?
Game won't run on my HD7970 on Linux due to the card/driver lacking support for the VK_EXT_scalar_block_layout extension, but the HD7750 listed as the minimum required GPU in the readme is from the same generation.

And just like that today is a good day for being a sonic fan.
Now I wonder if that /fit/ sonic autist I remember from high school has anything to say about it.

I'm on a shitty potato laptop with Intel Integrated Graphics but as a bright side it can go up to 3.0 Ghz and has 16 GB of RAM. I can keep a constant 16:9, 60 FPS, and keep the internal resolution at around 70-75% as opposed to about 25% (lowest setting). However, I still have to turn off AA other settings. Because of my shitty non-existent GPU, there is some sort of graphical effect (maybe lens flares?) that it renders as garbled multi-colored squares. Everything else works fine.

Mesa seems to only enable EXT_scalar_block_layout when the card's generation is GFX7/CI/Sea Islands or newer:
// https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/blob/8a47ae456cbae85508ec8bff73c9ec0020edd552/src/amd/vulkan/radv_physical_device.c#L726
      .EXT_scalar_block_layout = pdev->info.gfx_level >= GFX7,
If you feel like hacking you can try changing the >= GFX7 check above to >= GFX6 then compiling Mesa yourself and see if it works.
When it's done you can install it to an empty prefix and tell Vulkan to load it with the environment variable VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/path/to/custom/radeon_icd.x86_64.json instead of doing a system-wide install.
You may also try setting the AMD_FORCE_FAMILY environment variable to something like AMD_FORCE_FAMILY=bonaire, although that will likely crash your GPU.

Interestingly enough, gpuinfo.org says that AMD's Windows driver enables the extension for your card series:

Paul I swear to God if that's you bro, I want to remind you that I am still a sonic autist, and I have something to say about it. I still jerk to Amy

I did enable it in the source code, and while Unleashed Recomp did go ingame with the custom driver it only got as far as the stage 2 loading screen before crashing with fence errors.

I shit you not there was this kid I used to talk to was fucking chiseled all because of his love for sonic the hedgehog. Mother fucker was obsessed with sonic to the point he is never seen without his sonic necklace and his sonic styled shoes.
Last time I've heard of him is that he's usually at the college doing a fuck ton of one handed-push-ups with his headphones in the recreational area.

How does everyone here feel about 8-Bit Sonic? I grew up with the SEGA Mega Drive, but after growing up a bit and getting my hands on the Sonic Mega Collection Plus and the Sonic Gems Collection, to replay those classics, I gave the SEGA Master System and SEGA Game Gear a try for the 1st time... and I fell in love with them. I genuinely prefer my video games to be shorter, simple and also a bit slower nowadays that I'm older and have both less time and less reflexes, so my favorite Sonic titles, which used to be Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, are now... Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, but the "inferior" ports, they're so replayable too, easy to pick up and play.

P.S.1. Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble and Sonic Pocket Adventure are all excellent too.
P.S.2. Chaos Emeralds being found by exploring is way better to me than Special Stages.
>>276234
They're pretty good. Some of the level design in MS Sonic 1 is better than the Genesis counterpart.
Have you tried the fan-remakes? They're great and add a bunch of stuff.

They're still worth playing and completing on their own, but playing them makes me wish they were just released on the Mega Drive instead. The level design most times feels way too watered down and there are numerous examples of levels like your gif that look good but would look gorgeous if remade in 16-bit and given multiple background layers with parallax scrolling. Regardless, I still wish they would've put in more of the 8-bit and handheld levels into the 3DS version of Generations.

Eh, other than Sonic 1 the rest all kinda suck. I do think Sonic Blast gets too much hate, though. Seems that even people that like the other 8-bit Sonics fucking despise it.

I've considered it, but they take a bit too many liberties for me, and I try not to get too into OG fangames since I know that's a rabbithole with so many options I'll have trouble getting out of, I just wanted to play the OG titles in 16:9 and for me all these remakes, while impressive, don't do it for me as someone that liked the OGs as they were. Still, I appreciate the recommendation!

>>276271
Fair enough, I personally love the simplicity and the 8-Bit look, but I get your point. Also feel that the 3DS version of Sonic Generations was a missed opportunity to pay tribute to classic titles so many of us grew up playing alongside the OG classics.

>>276272
Sonic Blast isn't that bad, I agree, but it felt like a step back in every regard, all for graphics that don't look all that good...
THIS IS MY ESCAPE

I think we can all agree... Sonic had a ROUGH sex transition.
