What's a game that you haven't played for a long time because you just look at the case/loading screen/shortcut icon and silently think about how much work it's going to be?
Is there a game you're currently avoiding because you're thinking of your task list you have in it?
What can you do about it?

I don't have entire games that are a chore, but missions within them.
For example, I've been playing a lot of Gates of Hell Ostfront lately.Breddy gud, except for those fucking Skirmish missions.

You're tasked with taking on a huge army that will also constantly send heavy tanks and hordes of infantry against you. And the only way to unlock better units is by taking objectives. Best part? The good units are locked behind the rear-line objectives, so until then you'll be fighting heavy tanks with shitty anti-tank guns that can barely scratch them. Have fun!

Thankfully there is a cheese to capture those objectives stealthily without triggering the counter-attack spam. But it takes 2+ hours of micro-management. It's hell.

To me it was Code Vein.
I played the demo and thought it was cool, so i got the full game and ended up being a chore.
I barely started it and was already sick of it.
Way too much grinding for my tastes (and time)
I don't know if i will ever give it a second chance.
Freedom Wars on the Vita was the same, cool at first (i loved the story, setting and art style) but then it also became a chore.

If you treat learning Japanese (or any other language) as a chore to consciously do instead of integrating it into other activities (such as gaming or watching anime), you're NGMI.

Grinding in any RPG is a chore, but Pokemon is especially bad. Caught a shitmon at the start of the game that you now want to use at a halfway point? Good luck spending the next 3 hours fighting the same several weak Pokemon in the nearby grass to get it up to current party level! Older games are even worse in this regard since there is limited amount of TMs and guess what, movepools in the early games are ass and you will probably be stuck using some sub-optimal shitty build since you have nothing else. The new games didn't make things better by much either, since now everybody gets an EXP Share by default and it turns the already easy games into an actual joke. Romhacks got a nice middle ground going, but still, proper chore to level up new party members in these games.

Most modern games are a chore nowadays. You are forced to do mundane tasks that aren't fun in any meaningful just for muh immersion effects that normalfags latch onto so much.

Do normalfags actually enjoy “hold RT to deploy ladder… now carefully position it… good job!” or “mash A to scrub plates for 45 seconds”? Didn't they began to finally realize that these things were purely mundane and not fun at all?

There is a contingent of "dad gamers" and ultra casual gamers who play mundane shit like this while they listen to podcasts, barely any gameplay is needed if all they need is something to turn their brains off to. Then there is the DSP yellow paint audience who thinks they accomplish something if they do some really mundane shit that realistically no gamer should ever fail at. This tricks them into accepting the mundane tasks as big accomplishments, when in reality they're paying $80 to do chores.

>Monster Hunter
I like the monster hunter gameplay but I hate the grinding for materials, I hate the gathering animation, the long hunts, I hate how the MR hunts are locked behind dozens of hours, and I hate they are just repeats of previous hunts.
I don't have the energy to play these games anymore, I hope someone makes a bite-sized monster hunter game, where each hunt takes around 5-15 minutes, you can build an entire new set in a 2-3 hunts.

I love playing Rimworld with the naked brutality start. It's really fun, but at a certain point it becomes a chore. I'm on the 4th year of my colony, progress is really slow, and I feel like I spend 50% of my playtime organizing and securing food sources. I feel overwhelmed with 10 pawns, and I keep reading about people that get to the point where they are managing like 3 colonies at the same time.
>What can you do about it?
I am a purist. I avoid mods. I prefer coming back to the game after a few weeks with a new colony.

>I don't have the energy to play these games anymore, I hope someone makes a bite-sized monster hunter game, where each hunt takes around 5-15 minutes
Isn't the new shitty one literally just that? And worse in every regard to the previous games, too?

Try toukiden.

Not perfect but not grindy at all. While playing I was actually able to keep 3 weapons simultaneously maxed out and switch between them for fun.
I just hate jn games when halfway into the game I start realizing I’m spending more time in the menus than in combat.

No, they doubled down on the shitty story mode, now you have to follow a half breed jeet woman, her lesbian wife, and their adopted jeet child, hunts still take 50-ish minutes.

I replayed Pokemon Emerald recently.
Breezed through the gyms, saved the world, high levels with minimal grinding... Then I get to the E4 and suddenly all my mons are 10-15 levels behind. What the fuck? Now I have to grind on Victory Road where enemies are 10 levels behind me, so I just dropped the game.
Mind you I'm playing on an emulator with fast forward, and it's still a fucking chore that I would rather just not do.

NTA but Age of Demons is the first one, Kiwami is the G-Rank expanded edition of Age of Demons, and 2 is what it says it is. Personally I found the first one to be too easy and repetitive, and while the idea of hacking off limbs is cool, it didn't do as much as it could with it. Second one was far better, but leans more into the action than the hunting, similar to what MonHun's portable games are to it's mainlines.

Starsector - gave up on it until full release or all my mods update because I'm sick of running no-risk no-challenge no-skill trade routes for money just so I can afford to explore a big empty sector in the vague hopes of finding one of the four systems that'll be worth colonizing. Skipping colony still leaves me with having to trawl all the shops in the Sector to find good ships, because the game expects you to have builds & shit while not giving you the means to reliably find the tools you want.
Any game where I have to fuck with .ini files more than once.
Space Pirates and Zombies has so much grind, and makes the grind so slow, that I gave up on it.
>>301842
I mean part of that is because it lets dioxine put more cheesecake art in the bootypedia researchers effectively pay for themselves in piratez since score from research gives you money directly instead of being filtered through the council system like in vanilla. I think the bigger problem is research bottlenecks (stapler) and the sheer number of throwaway (but still dangerous) missions the game throws at you that you need to do specifically because of the score = money mechanic.

They do enjoy it, as long as they deploy that ladder in 4K resolution with "raytracing" because those are the normalfags' priorities.

>Play RTS on its default settings.
<The set up phase feels like it takes forever to get to any action.
>Play with a prebuilt base mode.
<The game instantly turns into who can spam units faster.
I think its just the multiplayer mode that has this issue for me. Single player campaigns, I find, usually have enough starter units to immediately find some action. While there is still a base building phase, most likely while under attack, to finish the mission.
in general
survival crafts
gacha games
mmos

in particular
valheim, as soon as you get to iron the game becomes a slog
x-com long dong way too long
wow private singleplayer just boring without a human guild
Basically all ubislop games after 2007/8
>>301662 (OP)
Any survival shit a la Ark/Valheim made to be some grindy piece of shit with extremely non enjoyable gameplay is immediately a chore to play.
Gaycha/f2p/log in everyday for mandatory shit games. Dunno if these can even be called games, actually.
Also piss easy games you can blow through with no pushback. It's a bore and a chore and a half. Shit like "starjew oyvey" and "gaynimal crossdressing brokeback mountain edition". Surprisingly not something I felt when I played HM on snes/gbc weirdly enough
Also yes, I know AC technically is a chore simulator but it's marketed as vidya, so not my problem.
>>301726
MH Rise with a 5x reward mod might be exactly what you're looking for other than the MR stuff.
It's so fast piss easy that hunts last 5-10 mins top, gathering animations are almost not present, and the offhand resource gathering mean you don't have to do much yourself. All with the bedazle and pretty confettis everywhere. And 5x rewards mean 2 hunts would usually be enough for a full set of whatever you want. Story is also shit. Easily mashed through and ignored.

I want to play a game like Valheim, but Valheim is made so gay, no ore teleport, shitty inventory, boar taming AI is gay, the annoying grass sounds, a bunch of other shit I can't remember.
But I admit I had some good fun while tripping on lsd and playing with a buddy years ago.
