This is from my singleplayer OpenTTD game. The save is pretty old now and I abandoned it after the lag started to become crippling, but I do think it looks really neat.

This is from a multiplayer game I played for a month (I think?) with a cool Lithuanian guy. Sadly we fell out due to me being busy and him being anxious, but I still cherish the good times we had together :)

Odd, I feel like I remember that not being an issue a long time ago, and it's even listed as a feature on the gitgud page https://gitgud.io/fatchan/jschan/-/issues/39

I wonder if it's either broke over time due to other changes, or if the mods blocked them for some reason involving the CP spammer or something along those lines. Sounds weird but they've blocked weirder shit because of him in the past.

Aladdin's final boss on Game Gear being the only version where you fight Jafar's snake form with the sword, like in the film, is a major credit to this version, and a huge blow for Genesis and SNES, where you beat him by either throwing apples, despite you having a sword, or jumping on him, respectively. It's a version most people slept on... and I'd recommend trying it at least once.

More importantly why did they have to shut off half the level instead of coming up with something else? Spawn enemies from where you're supposed to go instead. That way you'll give fags a clear path to action as well as a clue with the trail of corpses to signify the player's been there already. That's how Wolfenstein 2001 did it with the backtracking in the castle level.

It's the Amstrad version running in Caprice32, just like the other game I posted.
https://www.cpcgamereviews.com/review/1752/
The animation is smooth and controls are good, and the music is pretty nice. The graphics are a bit blocky because the game uses lowest resolution (16 color) mode. Some other games use medium resolution (4 color) mode instead. Very seldom do games use high resolution (2 color) mode.
I didn't play any further today, I just did my exercise and other stuff. But this is a fun game, so I'll get back into it soon!
Oh and immediately before Shinobi, I tried Shadow Warriors, but the controls felt iffy so I bailed. Maybe I'll try it again later sometime.

That's pretty cool! What motivated you to play Amstrad, anon? Personal nostalgia or did it peak your interest as a system for some other reason?

It was my first computer, and I played a whole lot of games on it back in the day. I'm sure there are better ports of this game on consoles, but since this version is actually playable I wanted to give it a shot.
I finally beat the first boss. I found out you can get up right next to him and just stand there without him aiming at you (otherwise it's hard to avoid his fireballs!) And then I just jump up right after he throws a fireball and try to hit his head. For some reason the shurikens don't always hit and I have to do this a bunch of times, but eventually he loses all his health.
On mission 2, the first thing I noticed is it's harder to move between the top & bottom levels. I didn't get very far.

That makes sense, our 1st system will always be close to our hearts, it's great how you go back to it. Hope you can beat Shinobi, though it doesn't look easy.

I finished that one finally, but kept running out of time on stage 2-2 because it's setup in a zig-zag like Donkey Kong and I didn't know where the exit was! Ok so finally I found the exit on the top left. It wasn't very obvious because it's a slightly darker color than the background (supposed to represent exit door, I guess) and I was first trying to jump on it like it's some kind of platform! The end boss for this mission is a chopper that shoot missiles at you, but those are much easier to avoid than the first boss. On mission 3, I got my ass kicked by some ninjas!
As far as the difficulty, I think most of it is memorizing the levels and where the enemies are. It's hard the first time because you just don't know what to expect. I gets a lot easier after that. Also I keep forgetting that I have a magic power (usable only once/stage), and I really suck at the bonus stages in between missions.
Finally I have to say, I never heard the Amstrad talk before! Yeah in this game it actually speaks "Mission One" (or whatever the number is) and that was really cool, because it's only got a really basic sound chip:

I don't know what is it about modern games but environments never stick, no matter how much more elaborate and filled with minute details they are. They all blur all the same in my memory, when the corridors in System Shock 2, indoor areas in Team Silent games, the West London map in KF1 or the fields in Xray Stalker all seemed so striking to me.

There's 5 missions in total, and they each have 3 stages + a separate one just for the boss fight (except mission 1 where there's only 2 stages + boss). You only get 2 minutes to complete a stage, so have to keep moving. I don't even bother going after all the enemies, just the ones that are in my way. In mission 3 there's two ninjas to be careful around. One of them is invisible and materializes out of thin air, and you have to basically memorize where they appear, but they're easy to defeat. The other other is clothed in red and always has his sword out. If you come into contact with him, you die. With other enemies, if you bump into them you just fall down but can keep going, unless you get stuck in a bad spot. So yeah the game got a little harder, and I only managed to reach the beginning of stage 3-3. Also I had yard work and other boring stuff to do, so I didn't play that much.

That the works of Tolkien and Dostoevsky would be the same if the main character was an Elf with an hourglass figure or an African with bowling ball figure?

And aren't the third worlders / jeets the ones who are unable to conceptualize a mechanical world or an alternate perspective outside of their own? What if you didn't have breakfast this morning?

Good question. But storytelling isn't just characters, there are worldbuilding, mechanics, orders, politics, mechanisms, science, rules. Characters are the emotional drive of the plot big machine.

About character immersion, I think there are levels, like empathy.
Too little and you are just pushing buttons to change pixels and make noises, too much your whole personality and thinking became the character you are playing.
What I see as a problem is that most people are very stupid thanks to maximizing sales and public and can only think as if they literally are the character they see. That's why a lot of people can't stand real evil villains and modern media always must be relatable, and most modern writers can only write insufferable self inserts.
And on social media, saying you like a characters is basically writing a contract that you agree with everything they do and say.

Personally, when I play "immersive games I don't think I am whoever is on the screen, it's still a game for me.
When I play bing bing wahoo brothers I don't scream the Mario sounds just so long, gay bowser neither I call EggMan McBaldyFace.

I don't care if I play as a brick, a dog, man, a girl or a potato. As long as the game is good and fun I can enjoy it, If the lore and characters are great it's a bonus but not a necessity.

Nah, that's a classical holdover from the early days of literature, when fiction itself was condemned as an indulgent excess, such that early fiction writers felt compelled by guilt to wrap their stories in some pretext such as being a hypothetical scenario or dream, frame stories describing it as a lost text related by the protagonist to the author, or the literal reader being connected by the book to perception of a true alternate world. This, of course, followed other relaxations of conventions by writers, such as the long held stigma against prose as inferior to poetic verse, or against written language itself.

This attitude persisted longest in genre fiction, especially speculative genres such as fantasy, AH, horror, and SF.

Partly for that reason, such contrivances appeared in many early computer games, especially adventure and roleplaying, such as Ultima, Omega, and Myst, in its most extreme form: There is no protagonist character to act as an audience surrogate, nor that you are intended to self-insert as, you are literally isekai'd into the world of the game. There is an even further step, more computer game specific, taken by some such as Uplink or arguably C&C, where the game itself is implied to be not a simulation, but mere network terminal software, and you IRL are remote controlling actual events on your humble PC.

Such pretensions have been thoroughly outgrown by audiences and writers, existing now only as occasional gimmicks.

I don't dislike female protagonists, but being obsessed with them looks more like a tranny thing than anything (mostly playing games with a female protagonist, always picking female protagonist when given a choice, etc). And if a game only features straight romance and has a protagonist gender choice it would be kind of gay to pick the female protagonist and see romance with males (eg. Persona 3 Portable). If a game has yuri for the female protagonist, it's more justifiable to pick the female protagonist, though.

Liking girls is straight. That said, there's a big difference between picking female characters because you like girls, and picking them because you want to physically be a girl. It's much the same as the difference between the classic anime avatar haver (who sees an image upload field and posts a cute anime girl because he likes them) and the tranny (who wants others to see him himself as a girl).
The inability of both trannies and certain non-trannies to distinguish between the two strikes me as narcissistic, frankly.

As a thoroughly straight man, I choose the female characters in games because they often have faster animation times for actions, besides having a smaller hit-box and silhouette profile for PvP. All of you should be gassed.

Anon, everyone here plays videogames, and we all know (yourself included) that what you just said was some unfiltered bullshit.
In my entire gaming experience, the only game with any shred of female advantage was ARK giving you -1inch in height if you wanted to make a midget that could crawl into tiny areas, and even that was trivially small.

I hope for your own sake, that you just attempted bait.

Half-bait. I really did half-mean it, however. Destiny 2's female profile worked great for my scout builds in PvP, while the smaller profile helped somewhat in Dark Souls PvP, at least as a console-nigger despite the red outlines. I've found the animations to genuinely go by a bit faster in some RPGs as well, namely with ladder-climbing and other movements.

If memory serves, at least in the alpha and beta stages, the female build helped a tad bit in Rust against bow-and-arrow or at least hiding, while I noticed some slight utility in DayZ's mod additionally at least when they finally let you select females as a character instead of what I think was strictly the baseball cap with Makarov / revolver character in the early mod versions.

What if I like co-op games, but I make my teammates play the female characters if there are only two options? I'm fine with playing them so long as I can see their shapely butts, but games like RE5 don't allow this. The 2nd player is always Sheva anyway.
Replies: >>313312

Forcing your presumably male teammates to be the beta, while making actual females teammates otherwise play out their god-given avatar still strikes me as strong male energy, so I think you're golden. Staring at the female asses of your male teammates' avatars does raise some questions, however.

I don't think women play video games, but I also don't stare at Sheva's ass until one or both of us get turned into chili. I'm just saying it's a nice bonus when the Sheva player is running in front of me and I can appreciate the character's nice ass. It's not like I start trying to sissify the co-op teammate. The worst I asked of one teammate was to stand atop a ladder and let me try to see what panties she wears in her business suit. They're nice, white panties
