I never beat the final boss fight in FF7. I just couldnt do it no matter how hard i tried so i looked up a guide and bred the most op chocobo to get the most op attack in the game only for me to almost lose again. I won but i felt no accomplishment.
I got lost in Chrono Trigger early on and didnt know how to navigate anywhere so i had to look up a guide.
I played Counter Strike Go for over 1500 hours.
I never got a nuke in any of the Call of Duty games.
I couldnt beat the Dark Souls 3 tutorial boss.
I have looked up several puzzle solutions just because i couldnt solve them after a few minutes.
I bought Battleborn

I played Hades perfectly and reached the final boss many times, but couldn’t beat him at all for some reason, so I just quit the game and never opened it again. It was the first time I leave a game incomplete.

By default I use a guide for every game unless I know that there's no real strategic or exploration component to the game.
I never finished RE4 because the ammo ran out and I was already turned off by the QTEs so I never tried again.

This actually happened to me once in ps2, and I didn’t think it was possible, not sure if I played on hard. But basically in the castle you get ambushed by the zombies and they don’t drop enough ammo, I still remember that I had no other weapons but the grenade launcher.

I use Reshade to turn night maps in tactical shooters into fullbright ez mode. Whenever an online game allows me to use the depth buffer, I also use the MXAO shader to see people through smoke grenades. I've gotten very good at hiding my advantages, never been banned from a server.
In games where Reshade is banned, I use the GPU's control panel settings instead. And if a game lets me turn down the vegetation or other VFX through the .ini files, I absolutely will take advantage of that opportunity.

And finally, whenever I suspect that somebody else is doing what I'm doing, I report them to the server admins.

I completely ruined Myst for myself by following a guide the whole way through. It was at a point in my life where I felt like I had to own a guide for every game I owned, and I didn't really understand the point of games like this. Someday I hope I get amnesia so that I can experience the game properly.

For most of the guns in the game, enemies randomly drop ammo if you're low on it. In fact if a pistol is the only gun in your inventory it actually removes the limit on randomized pistol bullet drops.

Most people can't beat Myst anyway.

I tried to be tacticool with serpentine and small circle maneuvers for the better part of an hour against Gulp no-hit challenge on Spyro Reignited and it made me want to commit murder-suicide with the developer. Then I ran in slightly larger circles and I beat him without getting hit the first attempt after adjusting. I felt relieved, but also extremely retarded.

He magically has Omnislash in the final duel whether you learned it or not.

I replayed Hades an excessive number of times to get to the final boss, but I'm pretty fucking sure I was playing with a controller that has input lag, since sometimes I could take my hands off my controller and my guy would still be performing moves for 1 or 2 seconds. Tried to fix it (USB cable helps, as does enabling "Game Mode" on TV), but ultimately no dice.

On the whole Hades was alright but I wish they gave you a bit more content and variation in what you had to deal with. It's just the same path and boss rush every time, unfortunately. And some of the weapons and daedalus upgrades are garbage. Others just make you wonder why you would even bother to use base form anymore.

Never managed to get the 500 seconds survived in Devil Daggers.
I think I got to about 430 seconds and then I got hard filtered because I can never kill the GIGAPEDES in time before the Leviathan spawns, and by then it's too late.
At most I only ever manage to kill one and then when the Levi spawns I got overwhelmed. I'm considering getting back to it and using some slow mo cheat to make it.

I purchased Sonic 06 at a deep discount and still felt ripped off.
Despite playing Morrowind on and off for decades, I never beat it until last year. I have done this with many, many amazing games.
I played Super Smash Bros. Melee/PM competitively for like ten years and outside of tournaments I hosted myself I never made it out of pools once.

I bought several games recommended by streamers
I bought the Spyro and Crash remastered games, even though I have the originals
I've spent an ungodly amount of money on early access titles that went nowhere or didn't have satisfying releases: Sun Haven, Hardspace: Shipbreaker, BattleBit Remastered, Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, Onward, Phasmophobia, Slime Rancher, Space Engineers, Sub Rosa, and more
Bought many Dead by Daylight DLCs and played it for over 200 hours, raging the entire time
When I was but a boy, my game lineup had a large amount of sub-par sequels and I liked them Medievil 2, Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, Megaman 8, Crash Twinsanity

I usually overgrind without knowing in most JRPGs because I try to do absolutely everything before continuing the story making every game extremely easy.

I had to turn down the difficulty in Fire Emblem: Enage from Hard to Normal because I just couldn't finish a map.

What else... Oh, I got absolutely filtered by Jagged Alliance 2, even in easy mode.

If I like a video game, but I'm getting filtered by it, and I can tell I won't be able to win legit, but I want to experience the whole thing and I don't want to drop it... I'll use either save states or cheat codes, sometimes both... I do try to use them with rules as to not make the whole thing into a joke, so I do my best to only use save states at the start of levels, or use cheat codes to give me infinite lives/continues, but I still have to overcome the levels legit. I have way less time to play nowadays than I'd like, and when playing I gravitate towards retro due to them being shorter, so time is pretty valuable which is why getting stuck on something a bit too long, or quitting after spending so much time trying to beat it, can be a bummer, so I give into cheating and I'm ashamed.

Despite extensively arguing with anons regarding the plot, gameplay and waifus of the Mass Effect series, I've never completed any of them. For ME1 I couldn't beat Saren's final fight purely because I was playing on a min-specs PC and something in that fight was dropping me to single digit frames, while I just lost interest in ME2 80% of the way through.
>>276232
I do that too, like my first obvious rule is to use save state at the start of the fight, as in to only save time, not use it to redo my attack or anything. Skyrim spoiled and I can only enjoy games like this, I would even argue it’s better than vanilla because you feel in control.

This. Of course I always make sure to mention I've used save states or cheat codes when discussing a video games where I did cheat, but I don't think that means I'm lesser than anyone else, or that I can't have opinions about what I've played. Doing stuff like save scumming can definitely ruin the experience, but as long as you have some ground rules, keeping in mind these titles in the 80's and 90's were made often by small teams on a rush for money alone, and that the hobby's supposed to be entertaining... then there really is no big issue in my eyes, again as long as we don't exaggerate and make it boring, and that we mention using.
i've started morrowind like a dozen times trying to convince myself to like it but never managed to stay interested for more than 5 hours or so.

I went through the same problem. People over-hyping the game has ruined it. Once you learn to embrace the broken combat and treat the game like an adventure game, it becomes more enjoyable. There are some mods to fix the misaligned textures on all the character's faces and the world textures, which alleviates the nagging feeling in your subconscious.

>>276306
Maybe try Mega Man Powered Up, which is a polished and easier version of Mega Man, or Mega Man Maker. The first NES Mega Man is probably the best one, but there are some poorly designed parts where you will get screwed over with no recourse.

Morrowind is all zoomer hype. It's an action adventure game for console kiddies masquerading as a proper RPG. It's Skyrim for 10 years olds in 2003 basically, but it somehow got memed into being thought of as a hardcore immersive RPG even though it pales in comparison to actual RPG's that were coming out contemporaneously (fuck it, it can't even compete with Ultima VII and that game is 10 years older than Morrowind).
It's also funny to see people shit on Oblivion and Skyrim as being dumbed down games for casuals when Morrowind was the original dumbed down game for casuals and the template for future Bethesda slop.
>>276362
i can deal with the shitty combat, but to me the most boring thing about mw is the quests. 90% of the gamplay consists of
talk to guy > silt strider etc near to objective > read some signposts to get directions > kill dudes in dull dungeon > recall back > repeat
the novelty of the interesting world design wears off pretty quickly. i generally really like wrpgs / crpgs but morrowind has consistently failed to hook me, let alone live up to the hype.
i am also running a lightly modded openmw to patch up some of the really shitty textures, draw distance, bugs, the usual stuff so that hasnt been a factor in my dislike of the game.

DnD is simple. xdy means x dice with y sides. 2d6 rolls 2 six sided dice, 3d10 rolls 3 10 sided dice. Critical threat is which sides of the d20 you crit on. 19-20 means that if the d20 hits a 19 or 20 before mods, you crit. In laymans terms, 19-20 is a 10% crit rate.

The point of DnD system is that while the system was designed for pen, paper and dice, it works so much better on computers. You see, when the computer does all the calculations, you really don't have to care about the numbers beyond understanding that a +1 sword is better than +0, while negative AC is better than positive. I would go so far as to say that DnD combat system was designed and destined for computer games even before computer games were a thing.

It gets awkward having everyone else reminisce about old guild days, or people they used to know, when I wasn't there for the "glory days" and I feel like I don't belong - especially when they talk more about how things used to be than about how they are now.

I got stuck in Metroid Prime 2 and looked up what to do. It was a game ending error, the Echo Visor door temple thing. Due to having looked up what to do my self esteem was forever ruined so to this day I have never finished the game. The closer I get to the Echo Viser door the more depressed I get and then I give up out of fear of looking something up again. I do this with lots of games, all because of Metroid Prime 2 memory. I waited years to play the game too as I was poor and no potato could do the dolphin emulation. At one point I assumed the disc was scratched when I played it the first time after it was dumpster dived along with the gamecube I played it on. It had windwaker and twilight princess with it, someone just threw it out around 2012. I played the first one, Prime 1, around 2006, and it had the demo. I was not allowed to ask for electronics for xmas nor bday. That is part of the depressing memories. To wait for all that time, think it's scratched and or I'm dumb, realize it's a game ending error, and not pick it up again for years, then not finish even when I start to replay it because 'having not finsihed that game was a part of me' so that's that. Any time I am stuck in a video game I nope it rather than look something up, assuming it's a glitch for the sake of my self esteem. Often it is not a glitch of course, but the glitch broke that part of me that would 'find a way to win'. Learned helplessness perhaps. I also got stuck in a room in some PC Tomb Raider game around that same time with zero way to solve the issue due to an obvious glitch. If not for those two memories I'd probably try to play more video games more often but wondering if it's me or not damaged my self esteem too much. Knowing I could be wasting my time, spinning my wheels, I give up erry time now days if stuck and even if I look it up to get past it at that point there's just no more fun in it. I consider it game ending either way. Like palm trees of eight in that one gb final fantasy game. Broke the game for me. Stopped playing because I looked up what to do. FF6/ff3 when Terra is gone and you get assraped by the magik tower, same thing, dropped it. You can't even see the stairs, fucking gay shit. If my memory is stronger I could have seen it, yes, but the more I think in terms of past the more depressed I get, so of course I would nto find Terra unless I was too depressed to play a game in the first place.

Don't make the mistake of heading to the old Megami Tensei games, as they're the hardest by sheer technological limitation, go for Shin, IF, Strange Journey, DDD or the first Personas. Always consider them as a tryhard version of Pokemon, with Heaven vs Hell, Order vs Chaos feuds going on instead of child adventures with cute critters. If you start like that, you'll be fine. And of course, if you dig the animu vibe more, just straight go for Persona 3 and onwards.

I cheat in a lot of single player games, but it's usually just giving myself money or materials I would otherwise have to spend hours grinding for. For example, in Baldur's Gate 2, I just cheated in a metric fuck ton of gold and bought all of the fancy magic items from that one shop right after I got out of the dungeon.
In Warcraft 3, my favorite game ever, I always use thereisnospoon because waiting around for mana to regen is boring. It's pretty cool in skirmish though, since it adds another layer of challenge since EVERYTHING has infinite mana, not just your dudes.
I really love World of Warcraft and still play it frequently, although only on private servers. WotLK is my favorite.
I enjoyed Fable 3, Thief 4, and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
I don't think the Mass Effect 3 ending is that bad. The only thing I don't like about it is how Sheperd can't retire and live out the rest of his days with his wife Tali on her homeworld.
I can't stand 99% of survival horror, and I absolutely hate tank controls unless I'm supposed to drive an actual tank.
MechAssault is fucking awesome.
I pirate indie games.
If games have good mods, I'll use them in my first playthrough.
In point & clicks, I keep the guide open for the rest of the game after I inevitably get stuck on a puzzle, usually early on.
I genuinely enjoy ASSFAGGOTS.
I play shooters on easy mode mostly because I enjoy the power fantasy of gunning down a bunch of dudes with ease, but also because I'm bad.
I spent money on Warframe back when I still played it years ago. The graxx & corpra skins are neat-o.

Most games that had tank controls back then choose to implement them because it amplified the experience. Some kusoge had them as well but they were just bad games regardless of control scheme.

Plenty of games figured how to generate a sense of tension without forcing crappy controls on the player. It has to do with sense of direction and spatial awareness. And, yes, this is a real thing: https://archive.md/TmV9A
<89 participants (57 women) were administered a Motion Sickness Questionnaire that assesses motion sickness susceptibility, a Water-level Task that gauges sensitivity to gravitational upright, and a mental Rotation Task that tests an individual's awareness of how objects typically move in space.
<...
<In conclusion, women performed significantly more poorly than men did on the spatial ability tasks and reported significantly more bouts of motion sickness.
https://archive.md/tqSFS
<In the study, Tremblay asked 24 people (11 males and 13 females) to point a laser straight-ahead (perpendicular to the body orientation) while upright and when tilted 45 degrees backward. To test whether cognitive processes affected spatial orientation, participants – who were tested in the dark – were told to focus on external or internal cues to help them orient the laser. He found that although instructions to pay attention to internal cues helped women to point the laser significantly closer to their straight-ahead, there were still significant differences between the sexes, with women tending to look more towards their feet.
https://archive.md/yWUNH
<We explored this potential movement/object bias in men and women using a computer task that measured targeting performance and/or color recognition. The targeting task showed a ball moving vertically towards a horizontal line. Before reaching the line, the ball disappeared behind a masking screen, requiring the participant to imagine the movement vector and identify the intersection point. For the color recognition task, the ball briefly changed color before disappearing beneath the mask and participants were required only to identify the color shade. Results showed that targeting accuracy for slow and fast moving balls was significantly better in males compared to females.
<...
<Overall, these results provide evidence of a sex-related bias in processing objects versus movement, which may reflect sex differences in bottom up versus top-down analytical strategies.

By the way most people played Goldeneye and Perfect Dark with the setup mapping strafe/back/forward to the C-buttons. Eventually console FPS devs took this feedback from the players and made this kind of setup the default.

Tank controls similar to resident evil were not popular back then. Some popular games had them, but they were popular in spite of that.
Tank controls in RE games and other horror games aided the horror elements by giving players less fluid control of the character. RE4 had much more fluid controls, and is also much less of a horror game, but was much more popular.

There are plenty of builds that do ridiculous damage in Hades. Honestly, the game becomes easier as you keep playing it because you end up unlocking more weapons and more weapon forms along with powering the fuck out of your Mirror of the Night. Not to mention you get stronger accessory items/keepsakes, environmental upgrades, and companion summons. After you kill the final boss the first time it unlocks all companion summons (which I wish it didn't, tbh, feels cheap to nail the endboss with a lol3500 damage summon), but you can use the Bouldy summon (which I like too much, because fuck you it drops heals, darkness, and gold) and Skelly summon against the final boss even the firs time,

Hades appeals to the same sort of autism as Path of Exile, really.

But might I remark for a moment that whoever designed the keyboard and mouse controls for Hades was fucking retarded? WASD controls as opposed to click to move controls like PoE? Really? This is not good UI design, and it's a major factor in why controllers are favored for Hades unless you really want to do ground-targeting AoE builds.

Look man, it's your anecdotal evidence vs my anecdotal evidence. We can look at the old professional reviews and realize they've all been paid for. We can look back at the old forum archives and we'll see the exact same arguments being thrown about again and again.
That one anon above was right: this debate is a stalemate, it's gonna go on forever.

Did you seriously just try to use this as an argument in response to someone talking about old games with tank controls? Games so old, they predate the very unfinished bloated "slop" you somehow decided to bring up for some reason?
This isn't a stalemate, this is you embarassing yourself. Guess that's fitting given the thread topic, but holy shit anon.

My main method of playing video games nowadays is retro emulation through RetroArch, with CRT shaders, on both my tablet and smartphone, using a telescopic controller for each. I know many would probably find this to be peak "zoom zoom" or truly SOVLLESS or something, but I find it to be such a comfortable setup that let's me take advantage of hardware I already own, and playing in the comfort of my warm bed after a long day working. Everything I beat this year was like this and it was so fun!

I'm impressed at how solid the controllers are for their price aswell.

That's like saying Breath of The WIld is a good Zelda. Hard to gauge my ass....they changed the format without regard to actual fans for the sake of trying to pull in as money as possible. I always nope something when they do that, unless it's SOTN in which case all previous titles of Castlevania I noped because they were simply too hard. The damned zombies talk and it's daylight and new ammo spawns and you have infinite saves if I recall, the shit was fucking gay. No creepy corner turning either. I could not play through it. If it stresses the normalfag too much it does not pull in profit basically, but profit does not mean shit when it comes to gauging a game's actual intrinsic value. You want it as hard as you can stand so you can feel accomplishment after beating it. The easier the game the less you feel when you beat it. It's like a cheap whore vs your whife.

How do you feel about SOTN? Did it kill the series? They changed the format and basically copied Super Metroid. Is it so easy there's no fun in it? I say it's a fine game and should have been it's own genre but jewtendo was too lazy to shit out Metroid over and over again but Castlevania did it for them.

I still don't get why Megaman Legends didn't take off. They changed mechanics too and it was easier and more fun and an upgrade too, and yet....

IIRC, Mikami said that the "only" thing that made RE4 more "action oriented" was putting the camera behind the player as opposed to the usual fixed camera angles the series had used up to that point. Hence why RE4 still used tank controls.

I love competitive pokemon and a few RTS games and I love vanilla WoWat least what it would've been if the playerbase didn't ruin it by minmaxing all the fun outta the game, but I fucking suck at them. In the case of pokemon, though, my skill is well above average, but it's nowhere near good enough that pros wouldn't say that I suck at the game, therefore I still suck at it. There's some other games I suck and think are really fun and have a competitive multiplayer aspect, but those aren't as prominent in my life right now.

However, there is one game I'm good at; SRB2. I'm good enough at it that noone online says I'm bad at it. In fact, they say I'm good. I got good at it by playing it alot and I played it alot because I like it. I even got to the point where I speedran it with mods, though I quit doing that 2 years ago out of boredom.

I also once got to the point in competitive pokemon, specifically pokemon showdown, where I'd found out what I had to do to be good at the game. I had to get good enough at teambuilding that I could either check or counter every possible threat, and this involves an absolutely enormous amount of accounting for possible threats to the point where I just decided that I didn't wanna do it.

It makes me think that it takes a ridiculous amount of effort to get good at RTS games and vanilla WoW as well, and in the latter case that's disregarding having to grind out consumables and nolife it when the server comes out so my gear doesn't fall behind compared to the rest of the raiding guild I join.

But I still feel really insecure on the inside, at a deep and mostly subconscious level, because I'm not good at those competitive multiplayer games that I really love because they're fun. This insecurity has been eating me up on the inside for maybe 10 years by now, and that insecurity has manifested by making my life much harder in non-vidya-related ways that you guys really don't need to know about.

So what does /v/, the place browsed in part by elitists who are actually fucking good at video games, think about this predicament of mine? Is it fucking stupid to wanna get better at those games that I suck at if it means having to go through that aforementioned ridiculous amount of effort if that's what it takes to get good at them?
I don't think going through all that effort ultimately sounds very... fun.
>>282239
>that insecurity has manifested by making my life much harder in non-vidya related ways
That part makes it important to find a solution. A fucking video game shouldn't be ruining your life. You have to either put in the effort to get good at these games OR you have to accept that this doesn't matter. Since you're not going to accept it, pick one of the games you mentioned, get good, then realize it didn't fucking matter and move on with your life.
Replies: >>282264
>>282256
I think I can consciously accept just fine that being good at those games doesn't matter much, but whether or not my subconsciousness accepts it is a different story. I was hoping that /v/'s advice would convince my subconsciousness that it doesn't matter if the potential entertainment value from being good at those games isn't worth the anti-fun that I'd have to go through in order to obtain it.
Plus the gameplay would become very different, especially in RTS games; it probably wouldn't even be fun to click the screen something like 8 times per second.

I shall write this shit:
If you are "awoken" enough, and seeing your doubt - to a degree you are - you won't have nearly as much fun as your opponent, who grinded years for the same shitty game. They get good to win, winning is fun to them. For example, I believe all those 10k hour assfaggots only enjoy winning, game is just a tool. Are you someone like this? Unsure? I do agree with other anon that you should go all in simply to "get it out of your system".
All in all, my advice is to not bother with games with low fun saturation per time spent. You either enjoy the game or end up being like korean mmo addicts 99% grind 1% fun.
No one cares how good you are past few moments, you are just another faggot. Sweaty clowns are annoying in competitive games, if anything.
What's your problem anyway, feeling insecure that you can't beat xXx_CumStainedPantsMcFarts_xXx? That some, probably reddit-brained being thinks you are bad? Or you want some other to say how good you are? Virtually pat you on the back and say hey, you are pro like woah! Is this what you want? You will never be satisfied if you pursue this.
My advice, if you don't enjoy the process, give up. Your efforts, all the anti-fun, pain and grit won't leave a piece of art or a strong memory, you will just beat john_sperm78, the ultimate pokemon trainer or whatever the fuck, I don't play this garbage, I play singleplayer games, I save worlds and cute girls - accomplished, a natural man's feeling, instead of feeling insecure for 10 years because of playing shit with no prize. And you know what? There is AssPenis, and he is right about your skill level, stop ignoring him and say something nice.

Can't you just be average? As in, there are always going to be opponents you beat and opponents who beat you, just have fun no matter the outcome.
In the case of WoW and ridiculous guild recruitments, either find a more casual guild if that's possible or choose a different game.
>>282239
Pros dedicate their entire lives to the game like it's a FULL TIME job, if you're just playing what would be considered a "casual"amount from their perspective basically you're ngmi so either make peace with this fact or change your habits accordingly, these are your only choices.

>FULL TIME job
This seems to say alot to me. I'm the kinda guy who sinks hundreds or even thousands of hours into individual games, and ultimately doesn't play many different games. And even then, I mostly play them casually without putting much effort into getting good at them, because putting in effort to get particularly good at them sounds like, well a grind. But I want fun now. I mean I'm nothing like those instant-gratification-demanding kids that refuse to play anything that isn't fun within the first 10 minutes; I understand that some games require some investment before they become fun. However, if a game requires a shitload of investment before it becomes fun, then I guess it just isn't really worth the time it takes to play it, and that's if I pirate it.

I think I really should just accept being merely above-average.
Also, I haven't played WoW for about 5 years by this point, but it's still really prominent in my life because fuck that game was good and it still has the potential to be so much better. Too bad microsoft will only take it further away from that potential.

Anyway I kinda wanna follow the advice of going all-in with pokemon to get it out of my system. I didn't wanna follow it at first because I'm shit at teambuilding and refuse to use other peoples' teams, though I can make plays once I've figured out a decent team; I guess I could try the random battles tiers that give you randomized teams, and therefore require no teambuilding skills.

Yeah and shit like suplexing enemies, kicking them to make them fly around like ragdolls, or giving the enemies guns and other weapons had nothing to do with it.
The reason RE4 went action is because REmake sold poorly and Crapcom thought it was because people didn't like RE anymore, ignoring the fact that it was exclusive to the worst performing console of the generation sales-wise.
RE4 was more successful than REmake only because Crapcok ported it to the PS2, otherwise it would have sold just as REmake did.

Anon, majority of Capcom's biggest games flopped during the time period of 2002-2004. RE Outbreak, Auto Modellista, Clock Tower 3, and Gotcha Force were commercial bombs. BoF 5, DMC2, and Dino Crisis 3 were hated by all. Why do you think Maximo, Mega Man X, and Steel Battalion never say another game? And, do you even remember Crimson Tears, Under The Skin, P.N. 03, Group S Challenge, Everblue 2, or Chaos Legion?

Capcom was hurting for money at the time, as these articles note: https://archive.ph/LUdWr
April 18, 2003
>Capcom declares losses, shelves 18 games
<According to Bloomberg Japan, Capcom has declared 19.5 billion yen ($163 million) in losses for its 2002 fiscal year. While its losses where originally estimated at 12.7 billion yen ($106 million), Capcom explained that its major titles sold below expectations. Biohazard 0 (Resident Evil 0) for the Nintendo GameCube was expected to sell 1.42 million copies but sold only 1.12 million. Devil May Cry 2 for the Sony PlayStation 2 sold 1.4 million copies instead of the expected 1.66 million. Clock Tower 3, which was also released for the PlayStation 2, sold 250,000 copies instead of the expected 450,000. Capcom released Chaos Legion (PS2) and P.N. 03 (GC) in March as part of an effort to meet its sales goals for the year, but the sales of the additional games did not offset its losses.
<The company's losses were also attributed to the cancellation of projects that were not likely to be profitable. Capcom has terminated 18 games out of approximately 100 currently in development. This is the first time that Capcom has canceled nearly 20 percent of its projects. The development funds spent on these terminated projects will be declared as special losses, totaling 5 billion yen ($41 million). No specific games were revealed in the cancellation announcement.

>Second year in red for Capcom
<Surprisingly, Capcom attributes its lack of sales and income in its 2003 fiscal year almost entirely to disappointing performances in America and Europe rather than in Japan's mature market. In America, sales of Mega Man Battle Network 3 for the GBA and Chaos Legion for PlayStation 2 were a success, but a number of other titles such as Dino Crisis 3 on Xbox and the GameCube version of Viewtiful Joe did not sell as well as expected. The delayed release of Resident Evil Outbreak and campaigns to liquidate market inventories also hurt the company. As a result, sales in North America were down by 52.1 percent, contributing to a North American operating loss of 4.6 billion yen ($40.31 million) for the company.
<Chaos Legion, Dino Crisis 3, and Viewtiful Joe also did not perform as well as expected in Europe, where a lack of any other major titles saw Capcom's sales plummet by some 34.8 percent. Capcom Europe still managed to post a profit for the 2003 fiscal year, although its operating profits of 330 million yen ($2.89 million) are down over 50 percent on those for 2002.
>RE4 was more successful than REmake only because Crapcok ported it to the PS2, otherwise it would have sold just as REmake did.
No, it didn't. RE4 on the GameCube was a major success, despite the announcement of the upcoming PS2 version, by June: https://archive.ph/qMxwd
Here's info of the GC other Resident Evil games during that time: https://archive.ph/hJEkL
You'll note that REmake sold half a million in America a year and a half after launch, while RE4 did it in five months.

>vanilla WoW
Anon, I played vanilla WoW. It fucking sucked. There is nothing challenging about 99.99% of the quests and dungeons. Raiding is an entirely different beast that requires a lifestyle dedicated to it and synchronizing dungeon clear windows with your real life social outings, purely because it required 40 fucking people to coordinate things. The "skill" of that part of the game is almost entirely rote memorization and repetition, and it demands little more than your patience. There is a single ideal set of armor for things. There is a single best-in-class consumable. Paladins suck.

The best thing The Burning Crusade ever did was introduce 10-man raids and make the default raid size 25. But that doesn't change the simple fact that the core game mechanics are just not satisfying or good. Pushing [3] and waiting a tenth of a second for your character to play the same animation, then another tenth of a second for it to connect, thousands of times, is not worthwhile.

What you liked in vanilla WoW (and I'd wager Pokemon Showdown) is being part of a community of people who aren't total child-raping faggots and whom you have a lot in common with.

>But I still feel really insecure on the inside
Because you never took the plunge. You never pushed yourself to do something that was actually difficult.

I used to almost exclusively play online competitive games. It was miserable. Just come to terms with the fact that you will never stand out. You're not able to just be the best on your block any more, if you are looking for validation through competition now, in this globally connected world, you'll tear yourself up inside. You will not be the best in the world. No matter what you tell yourself now, if you "only want to get a little better", that's a bullshit goal you'll quickly move further away. Modern matchmaking just makes this all the more miserable, at least in the old days you could pubstomp and get to feel that you are clearly better than average, but now games do everything they possibly can to make you lose 50% of the time. It's not fun. In dating, you need to compete against a 500 mile radius due to Tinder and the like. In jobs, you're competing globally against "global south" shitters who'll always undercut you. The pressures of hypercompetition are seeping into and ruining every little facet of life. Don't make your escapism hinge on that shit, too.

Sounds like some hero shooter I'd guess.
I have become a filthy casual. The most I can stand playing video games in a single weekday is 60-90 minutes in a casual RPG and/or a 15-minute run in a single player fighting and/or racing game. But it's the only way I am enjoying video games nowadays that is not living vicariously by binging Let's Plays.

I don't look for games I want to play. I look for games that will not bother me when I am not playing them. Playing the game is just a happy bonus.

The strat was applied during rather interesting recent times of history, it technically still applies but only if completely removing certain technologies which nowadays are universally present even in African shitholes.

That's funny, the 1999 update is around when I stopped. No, wait, I think it was the infested boy-band. Nigghtwave was bad enough, and the gay butler, and the transvestite corpus, and the general loss of the aura of mystique and legend that being a Tenno originally had, (does every new character have to be an unimpressed hardass that treats you like shit?) but I think that the boy-band might have been the tipping point for me. It was just too far past the point of absurdity.

Gripes about tone and characters aside, how does she play? I liked a lot of the fem-frames' designs, but I was never super into farming for them.

>Nigghtwave
Why does everyone I meet think she's supposed to be Threedog but more lefty? She's actually the most blatant reference to the DJ from The Warriors ever.
>gay butler
Come on anon, is it really too much that the same game with a skate boarding minigame, a quest that teaches the player about Eternalism Philosophy that also quizzes them about it later, a major villain who steals Plankton's bucket helmet idea from the Spongebob Squarepants movie to rule the galaxy, a giving birth minigame/side quest, time travel harem romance, and a female geode themed frame which the devs nicknamed "Gemussy" also has some MGS4 tier old man yaoi?
Seriously though the absurdity just makes me laugh. Warfarm is unique with how fucking out of control and unhinged the writing is. I love it.
But also I just think the post new war stuff is way better than the 2015-2017 stuff. I think the space babies plot twist is what killed it around these parts. I remember on 8/v/ prime we had WF threads there until that point. I recall when that quest dropped, people complained in the thread about it, talked about how NSFW artists were dropping out of it because it made them feel uncomfortable and then threads stopped being made. I think the drifter + protoframes is them doing everything they can to undo that twist without retconning it.

>how does she play?
<Without Loyal Merulina
Defensive frame with a crit buff to secondaries that's active as long as you're moving with the ability to gain extra armor and protection by entering a mode where you're skateboarding and can only use secondaries, like that dude from Tomb Raider 1. Its janky and gets stuck on just about everything though.
>With Loyal Merulina
Effectively turns her into a summoner and one of the tankiest frames in the game. You summon the sea creature you would normally ride to instead give you at least 15k overguard(!) for free and follow you around to lay water mines everywhere that come in handy when you least expect them to. If she dies, you can summon her again for 50 energy.
Also Yareli has the biggest ass in the game, its just hidden by her skirt. Looking forward to whenever she gets a protoframe since her prime >lore trailer states she was incredibly beautiful as a human.
My main complaint about her is that her comic book from her quest too arcuate to what western comic books with female leads are like: she's a jobber in her own story

That does sound pretty fun. Towards the end of my time playing, I enjoyed a lot of Revenant because of his immortality build allowing me to have fun with the weapons. Nezha was also one of my favorites when I wanted to move faster and do more damage with my abilities.make any femboy jokes at your own peril

When it comes to the plot, I think one of the silliest things was the Magical Autism Boy. In retrospect it's not the worst thing they've ever written (even though the Tenno collectively rejecting the kid still feels a bit forced since their whole gimmick is empathy now) but at the time I laughed my head off when they revealed his space-fidget spinner.

I can relate.
Nowadays I prefer playing those games that allow me to play quickly and in small doses, like fighting games or arcade games that take less than a single hour to complete.
But that's mostly because of my job.

>I don't look for games I want to play. I look for games that will not bother me when I am not playing them. Playing the game is just a happy bonus.
To me is more like, I don't want to get too invested in a game if I don't know when I can continue playing it, and if too many distractions will let me postpone the next playing session too often, at the risk of losing the track of it or forgetting my progress.

Same.

Recently I've been playing mostly easy and/or short titles, often titles that take less than 30min to complete, because I rarely have both the time and energy to sit down and truly engage in something, working sure is a pain. A few friends have tried to get me into gatchas and while the girls are cute, there's so much to follow and incentives to play all of the time, it feels like a chore more than a video game.
>>298172
I want to and like going all in and fully into a good long game but unless I am NEETing or have a large break, any breaks and having to change my focus away ruins it, I am a single-track minded person, I used to no-life whatever games I played be them games like WoT or single player ones, I also just enjoy shorter ones or things just as a sort of side activity and don't require much mental investment.

Also I used to be blue-pilled and so I could fully enjoy and soak into ZOG media like Mass effect and it was amazing to me, now most everything is unplayable since I am aware of the subversiveness at best and just disgusting degeneracy and self-humilation most games are to play if you are a white man.

I need to up my research to find the good games that are out there, but I also don't have the time or justification to sit down and go all in right now, so not bothering right now unless I see something catch my eye on an image board ill save to look at later.

wholesome light anime and more arcadey games are all for me at the moment, cute girls and lolis and decent porn games (actually hard to find) or a good short gameplay loop.

I've said this before elsewhere, but when I entered the workforce and had disposable income and time again, the first game I played was Skyward Sword.
I left with a massive appreciation for the Navi/Fi "helper" character.
Like you, I only have time to play on weekends or just an hour here or there. So, having Fi around to be like, "Aight, I know you gotta job, got your mind filled with other shit, and haven't played for like a week, so here's the scoop." Skyward Sword kinda got shat on, but goddam it was perfect for me to get back into the...uh...swing of things. I did not intend that pun :/.
Fi's last scene hit me like a truck of bricks because I depended on her so much in game.
The item shop girl who you aren't supposed to like because she's 'ugly' I had a huge crush on because I got way too into the thrill of actually having someone into me. Unlike Zelda, it felt like she would actually cry if something happened to me. So...you gotta support a girl like that, y'know? ._.

I've read fanfictions and comics, mostly shitposting stuff, memes. Ultrakill is too fucking fun, they feel like a game smade by real fucking people rather than AAA bullshit slop. The games are most-importantly fun. I love the theorycraft aspect of Deltarune and have made quite a few theoryposts on characters and how the story's gonna go out.

The thing is. I have a feeling that Toby Fox has an elephant in the room that will never be addressed out of fear: Kris' real and biological gender. Unless he makes this weird lore implication that humans are some strange sexless species that reproduces like aphids do, I feel like that if he were to give Kris a canon bio-gender, it would absolutely break the fandom. He probably won't. Honestly? I think Kris being biologically male or female would add to the game message about the player character and the player themselves being seperate entities with their own wants, needs, motives and actions quite well within Deltarune's story.

Toby fox probably wouldn't reveal it because the Deltarune/Undertale fandom is full of rabid religious-like puritans whose worldview is intrinsically-cemented into their own self-identity. Hell, they're responsible for censoring the weird route, they pushed him to change it because they're so terminally-online they think a wilting rose means that the player may have raped the innocent little noelle in the weird route.

I know you guys would love to see Kris's biogender reveal absolutely break the fandom. It would be cathartic as hell. I doubt it's gonna happen, but a man can dream.

Celeste was fun, the music was wonderful, but fuck me, once the creators became trannies, they transwashed Madeline and their message. The climb of the mountain was about the struggle and the journey, and changing it is no fucking different if they became born-again-christians and started changing the dialogue to add God to it.

But yeah. most -isms, tumblrism, trannyism, communism, anarchism, facism, whatever-isms, they're dreams, they're illusions, and they all fit in the same hole that religions and cults fill.

I just wanted to play fun video games. Religious-adjacent communal narcissists have to poison every fucking thing they touch,

The big problem is that other people were forced to endure that regardless of their life situations, how long or regularly they played the game, or how good their memory was. Same here.
Having to wait days to resume my playthrough pisses me off, and so i tend to avoid longer games until i have enough time to sit in and enjoy them without too many distractions, otherwise it spoils my experience.
Like, playing a few hours every day is fine, playing a few hours one day, then wait three days to resume playing, or play for only a few minutes before going to work is not a pleasant experience.

In the years between 1985-92...
Mario: I finished SMB 1 and 2
Zelda: I finished Zelda 1 and 2
Metroid: I finished the first game
Megaman: never had this cart back in the day, and didn't even know it existed, so I never played any of them
Contra: I finished the first game on Amstrad CPC (where it was called Gryzor) and so didn't bother with the NES cart
Castlevania: I finished the second game, and later tried the first but didn't like it as much so never finished
Metal Gear: I finished the first game
Final Fantasy: I finished the first game (ditto with Dragon Warrior, which I played after FF even though it's older)
And that's it, man. At the time I played them, these games weren't really a franchise. Many were just one-shots, or at most had one sequel. I guess Mario is maybe an exception since he had other various games before SMB, like pic (which I never played) and Donkey Kong (great fun!)
I just don't care about the SNES or later releases, but maybe I'll finish the 8-bit stuff I missed.

I don't think it was that hard, except for the last fight against clone. But by the time you get there, you got enough practice. It seemed to me like a really epic game with a huge land and lots of towns, palaces, caverns, and other places to explore. So it took me a very long time to reach the end.
But this game, like most other NES games, has good controls that you can eventually master. The 8-bit computer scene was another story altogether. There were many games with very dubious controls and physics. Pic is one example. It's a collect'em up where you're this bouncing pumpkin, and you can go left or right or press fire to bounce faster/higher. Good idea, but it's really fucking hard to control your guy and make him land exactly where you want him to. Even so, it was a lot of fun to explore the castle, but I can't remember if I ever managed to finish it. And as far as the first Cauldron game, I never had a copy so never played it. Another one for me to try now!

The most annoying thing about classic WoW these days is that they nuked GDKP raids in the latest servers to force people into guild raiding more which is going to be on a fixed schedule instead of being able to raid whenever the fuck you want by joining GDKPs where people are incentivized to not be fucking bell-ends or noobs.

And WoW is only a skill-based game if you are PvPing, tbh.

As she's an xmas cake, no alpha male would ever want to have sex with her old hag ass, so she fights them instead, absorbing demonic souls into her ever growing privates, her beta ghost consuming them as they enter, growing ever more powerful as it attempts to be alpha in it's afterlife, failing as the apple does not fall far from it's tree. The more the ghost moans and rattles its chains the bigger her vulva and clitoris gets. She clearly is seeking Soul Calibur to exorcise her vagina before her manly clitoris grows an eye like Nightmare's sword did. The ghost's chains are why she can fly at an angle back down to attack you, defying the laws of physics.
>once she finally finds and masters the soul calibur
<time to go home
<so long gay baby *slice*

It's a cup to protect her clit from being chaffed when she's dry humping your corpse after battle is my alternative answer.

Try doing regular meditation. It helps with emotional self-control.
