Been a while since we had one and I've been thinking about it again so it's time to talk about some Monster Hunter.
What are ya...
PLAYIN?
HUNTAIN?
MAINING?
CARTIN TO?

Or do you hate MonHunt and want to bitch? Well friend, come on over. We have room in this thread for many opinions, even wrong ones. I myself haven't played in a while. Rise didn't catch on with me the same as the other ones did. I hate the dogs, to much going on with all the palicios and everything during a hunt. Maybe I should give it another go.
Also maybe we could get a hunting group together again. We did it a bit for portable 3rd and it was pretty fun.

Some more art and an OST I have laying around.
I wish Capcom thought to include a switch for World/Rise that boosted monster AI and disabled or imposed limitations on all the easy mode mechanics they added. It would allow them to maintain their reputation as a hardcore action game company without driving away the retards they were trying to attract.

This OP's missing a question I've seen arise quitea lot, and I think the thread would be missing out without it:
What's the cutest/sexiest female armor and why? Considering the kind of body female MonHun avatars have (wide hips, juicy legs, well-built abdomen, DFC), what armors do you think suits them the best?
I think Crapcum used to know well their games were dress-up simulators, and you can tell they knew they had to put some effort into drawing the player into collecting armors, that's the main gameplay loop at the end of the day.
I don't think I can blame fags for playing as the girl character in MonHun. For once, male armors are too busy and retarded to be cool. Sometimes I feel the same about female armors, too.

I've been wondering, with all the dumb shit Crapcum has done in recent years, have they censored female armors in some way? Either outright or simply made more conservative designs? Been a long time since I've played Monster Hunter so I've no clue how things have shifted.

So I've now played World enough to form a semblance of an early impression and I'm confused as to why the /v/ hivemind seems to HAET it so much to completely write it off. The one thing I actually disliked so far is the simplification of the gathering mechanics.
>minimap tells exactly you where shit is
>gathering spots are glow-in-the-dark and ruin immersion
>removed the need for pickaxes or bug nets
I get that it's the first release that isn't on a handheld or shitass underpowered Nintendo, so the maps are caught up with modern standards and cluttered with all sorts of plants, trees and whatnot, but making shit glowy AND also showing the exact location on a minimap is just a poor design choice used as a crutch to hide the fact you couldn't make the spots visually unique enough to grab the average player's attention. It completely takes out the exploration and replaces it with sleepwalking towards icon on minimap, since you have no need to actively look around yourself, and that's pretty gay. The fact you don't need to bring tools at all is also pretty retarded. I dunno maybe some disliked it but I liked having to plan what to bring and juggle the limited inventory slots, having to decide whether to bring some extra gathering tools or more healing and other shit instead, or just leave them free altogether for more gathering or something, having to do, you know, basic bitch tier decision making at all. Way to shave off another layer of depth from the game. Also I guess loading times could be a bit better, I'm on a top of the line, near empty NVME and it still takes a good few seconds between transitions, I can't imagine how it is on bargain HDDs.

That aside, the game seems fantastic. The music, UI, the design of the hub, the monsters, the general atmosphere, it's pretty much what I would expect from a MH title with QoL improvements and a fresh coat of paint. The fact the it's so seamlessly integrated with online services and kept updated is what kid me dreamed about of when playing older titles. Looking back, games that only had LAN multiplayer now would feel very lonely and empty in spite of the devs' efforts to prevent that. Dunno, maybe I'll find more things to criticize as I play but so far it seems like another episode of "/v/ hates video game because /v/ told him so".

Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk.

>I'm confused as to why the /v/ hivemind seems to HAET it so much to completely write it off
The horrendous "female" characters and the forced cutscenes didn't help with first impressions. But mostly, it's because at this point it's a completely different game. Even GU kept some of the essence. There are other, better games with similar combat gameplay if I want to kill giant dragons or something.

The worst part is I thought maybe the next one would be okay if they took the good parts like the environments and all that, female characters you can look in the face for more than 2 seconds and more old gen like mechanics. And then they released rise, a game so bad even the most average retard playing on a PS5 hates it and prefers to keep playing iceborne. It blows my mind that they didn't even keep and improve the one good thing about world, the well crafted areas.

So yeah, in very very short, it's an okay game but not really worth it personally and absolutely not a monster hunter game.

I want to play MHW but my PC can't handle it on anything higher than minimum settings. Normally I don't care about graphics but in World's case, it seems that anything other than max settings looks like absolute diarrhoea. Everything is super pixelated and because the game uses this weird "fade-out" effect on objects during pop-in, the pixelation gets even worse. Doesn't help that the only AA options are dogshit (TAA & FXAA). I think the only way to enjoy MHW is maxing it out on on 2K res and then add Reshade on top.

So yeah I'll wait until I get a new computer, whenever that might be. Thankfully from what I've seen people didn't like Rise and they don't seem excited about Wilds either, so the multiplayer should still be highly populated when I get to play it.
>>228075
I think the reason most people dont like it is because how much handholding there was, that and forcing you to look at handlers ugly mug every few minutes.

On release the game was also severely lacking in monster variety, I hear they fixed that over time with updates and iceborne but you have to remember that world game out ofter generations xx and while world was completely rehauled it still felt there was too much that was cut.

I think a huge problem with the game in addition to the problems others have mentioned is the balance.
The early games were more about small hunter fighting big monster by using everything at their disposal to tip the odds in their favor. In world they added so many abilities and ways to become so powerful, they trivialized most monsters.
The previous games most bosses were all about pattern recognition and learning their moves and weaknesses rather than just getting the next OP bonus so the monster doesn't stand a chance.

I am not saying world is too easy, because they knew they made the hunter too powerful, and being the very talented devs they are they fix this by giving the monsters huge health pools and also giving them big AOE kill-you-in-1-hit attacks to balance it out, which isn't fun.

It's been functional for a while afaik, could be fun
Every time I would pick up one of the games I'd have a grand time and make plenty of progress, but after putting them down I'd never come back until I got an itch for MonHun, where I would start all over again with a new character.
To this day I haven't finished a single title.
So I've been playing 4U edition on my 3ds and I have to say its pretty fun Though it's pretty much the only one I've gotten a decent way into so bias is whatever
Ive gotten to the fifth tier of what I guess is the story quests and have just been ignoring the guild quests, because I don't really understand what is the point of doing both. Seems like just doing everything twice for the heck of it.
Also I just love going on an gathering mission, spend the whole 50 minutes mining every node I can find and then walking away from the whole thing with only 1 fire stone to show for it. just great

You'll be able to beat the single player story quests without ever touching the multiplayer quests with what the game gives you. However, what it won't give you are certain unlocks for the canteen and merchant. The max level upgrades for the canteen are unlocked by completing certain multiplayer quests. Same with getting certain material trades from the merchant that allow you to make weapons/armor you wouldn't be able to do otherwise.

In addition, certain single player quests don't unlock until reaching the appropriate HR, which only increases by doing multiplayer quests. If by fifth tier, you mean 5 star quests, I'd suggest waiting till you get enough high-rank weapons and armor before doing multiplayer quests on your own. Not to say they're impossible to do with low rank equipment solo, but it'd make the experience less annoying. The monsters in multi act the same way as the single, but expect to take a longer to kill/capture than normal (and hit a bit harder), since they scale for 2 or more players.

Around 2016 I played some MHF, but for not particular reason I didn't continue for long, was typical for me at that time. Finally came back to it a few months ago. People were telling me I should start from the new titles or at least MH4U, I didn't listen.
Restarting MHF, I was actually nicely captivated and enjoying the chill progression, though it wasn't joy only. A very different atmosphere, it is a unique Japanese game of its time, not a lot more "modern gaming" standardized fifth gen. I beat Kut-Kut and then later rage-quited on yet another Velocidrome mission in the desert, getting overwhelmed by the small monsters.
Proceeded to do 130+ hours of World/Iceborne. Perhaps hypocritical to what I said earlier, making me a pleb myself. Modern slope is just easy, ready for consummation. Maybe as anon said, slope it too harsh, but it is how it feels, standardized, samey, so easy to get through it, the monsters might have larger than the player's models, but their presence is not as large as even that Kut-Kut was.
ESGs aside, I was mostly okay with the game, though also a lot of small things that didn't make it such an amazing experience.
It was probably late HR and early MR that I enjoyed it the most, as I felt the most motivated and had the most fun in grinding out some weapons and armors. I guess it is almost worth it for just that fun period alone.
If I had played it with the mods removing the Claw shit, I perhaps would have enjoyed it more. There is actually a combination of small mods that don't affect your save files, but didn't learn of them until too late. After beating the final boss of Iceborne, I had no motivation to continue with the post-end content, just did a few hours of Guiding Lands. Until I realized it is MR limited, so I couldn't get the Gold Rath and the parts I wanted for the weapon I wanted.
Proceeded to do 30+ hours of Rise. I really hated it at first, then was okay, but barely paying attention to what I was doing, thanks to super low difficulty. It didn't really become "difficult" at late HR, but finally started engaging with (mindlessly spamming) wirebugs and started to hate the game for how overwhelming of a mechanical presence it is. Like the Claw, but even worse. Couldn't stomach to even start MR.
At the same time on and off I actually did some MHFU, accepting that MHF will be something to play when I have exhausted later MHs.
So then I went back to W/I thinking I might go for Fatalis. Oh God, I hated the game so fucking much. I always had problems with the maps, especially Ancient Forest, but after playing some of the other games for longer, it felt unbearable. Just like this anon was saying >>228075 clutter, the fucking scout fly, the claw based fighting again, the god damn clutter, oh god. Except even the movement felt sluggish and unresponsive, not just to sonic speeds Rise, but somehow even to MHFU. I genuinely felt disgusted by playing the game.
Suddenly Rise didn't seem as bad, at least it is a very fluid game. Actually went back to it, playing some early MR, farming for some armors, actually trying to engage the fights of the game for the first time. Maybe easy, would prefer it without the damn wirebugs and monsters being less chrazy, but for the first time I actually felt like I was starting to enjoy Rise.
Note sure if I even enjoy the franchise that much, I probably am, o am I just turning my brain and going to the motions. Are any of them good? Maybe getting too overwhelmed in opinions by the fifth gen.
I most likely should just play MH4U really, but leaving the best for the last is probably optimal, as after it I might not be able to enjoy many of the other games at all, especially fifth gen.

>>228077
A meaningless thing to say, I assume, but did you make sure to get the latest version? It improves a lot in performance compared to original World and early Iceborne. There is also a small mod that removes some stupid coding that made it fixed 60fps for me. Stracker's Loader + Performance Booster and Plugin Extender.

MH1 has had online for some years, Dos got it recently, FU is the same dried and crusty game we've been playing since 8v, Tri recently got servers too, P3rd is the same situation as FU, and 3/4U are relatively easier to emulate now. GU requires you to download more RAM though but still "easy" to run for a console game.

Iceborne fixed a lot of issues with World even though it introduced the gay Clutch Claw, and honestly I didn't even use the fucking thing till postgame and just dealt with suboptimal damage fine enough.

Even though my opinion has softened on World, it still lacks the special something of earlier titles. The quiet mindfulness of choosing loadouts, going on gathering missions, harvesting shit in your farm, hanging out in the hot springs, etc.

I don't remember who posted it or where, but someone dug up the old julay MonHun Co-op playthrough thread here: https://archive.fo/H4Zh4
How unrealistic would it be to see something similar on this day and age? I wanted to give a go at virtual whore dress-up simulator, since I've never played any of these games. Is SP fun?
Then again, the attempt of a SS2 co-op playthrough here >>227755 went nowhere, and from what I can tell no one on this board is willing to do a long multiplayer game over a game they can log in and play for short bursts.

Oh is the defender sword part of the those bonus items they give you like that other armor with 50 def? I had to craft it so I didn't think it was but I was wondering why it was so good compared to the alternatives.

>>229441
The armor had the same name, I believe, Defender something? Don't know the stats. They are for people that want to rush through World to get to Iceborne. Were introduced only with Iceborne. As the shitty clutch claw was. Maybe here is a good time to recommend the option to play without the clutch claw, these three mods, especially the first two at least for world:

Are you sure you got that right? It says here the sale ends in 25 hours and this has been the lowest it's ever been priced at since release so I'm kind of on the edge about getting it, which is why I asked.

From reading online even if you don't have Iceborne the stagger and other damage modifiers introduced with Iceborne will be applied, despite not being able to use the clutch claw, which is the reason for the changes. Fucking weird.
>>229445
Yes, I am sure, why do you think the sales finishes in 25 hours? Though it might be bumped to the old sales price, which would have been 20 bucks, but also they might keep it. They are cheaper as a pack, I am guessing you bought World before and never played it.
Either way if you already have World, you might as well get Iceborne, it is a lot of content and additional moves you can even use in World. Again I suggest applying at least the first two mods until you finish World, so you get something closer to the original World experience, which was better without the claw.

That's actually pretty cool. Have you tried it before? Does it work well, or does it lag to death?
Does it work something akin to that PSX gamenight, where you had to phone into a specific server, or is it P2P?
I'd set it up, didn't I already have enough vidya to play, but it looks like a decent idea to pull in the future.

I haven't used it, but I have seen some videos, should work fine. It is p2p, the creator of the room is hosting the server. The emulator is just providing the listing. There is even a way to host a dedicated server, otherwise it closes with the host closing the emulator.

3DS games are generally liked, many think they are the peak. I would suggest 4U as it is more standard gameplay than the more experimental GU/XX, though GU/XX have a lot more content including many mons from all gens. XX is the name of the Japanese version on GU, which has a Japanese patch, preferable to play as it has a bit of exclusive content. Then again, I would prefer 4U at the moment.

Been playing 4U on citra after starting with World and Rise; I can definitely see why people who liked slower weapons felt fucked by the increasing pace of the series. Everything's slow, cumbersome, at times tedious, but the overall gameplay feels much more satisfying to make work vs endlessly mashing combo against meat sponge enemies.
It feels like the difference between dork souls 1 and elden ring. You aren't punished for not being a roll machine or cheesing with parry mechanics. I went from IG (World) to switchaxe (rise) to GS and in this game, it just feels right. No need for excessive fancy shit. You learn the monster and charge up, no amount of gear fuckery or getting 50 quality of life skills will save you.
Only really frustrating part is the small monsters not getting the hint and fucking off during a fight. The amount of times I've had a level 3 bounce off one of the little faggot pillbugs would be enough to make me drop the series if I hadn't played the easier, later games.

HBG is kind of fun before world. Bow is novel in dos I guess. The 'fun' comes from managing charge levels and correctly using pierce or rapid shots with the RE aiming and projectile arcs/travel time. There is not much fun to have .
Shooting a monster out of the air when it tries to run can be fun though, but that just about comes for free in world/rise wth every weapon.

The dos devs hate the hunting horn and playing it is CBT before 3u. After 3U they kneejerked and made it too easy to use. God they don't even give you enough hyper armor in recital mode to avoid getting tripped by an SnS basic swing.

It doesn't even attempt to be even slightly realistic, it's just a generic jrpg monster boss. It looks like it comes from an old final fantasy game with no attempt to make it look like it could be a real animal, its attacks are completely over the top, ridiculous and also just stupid (like doing a triple spin into somehow jumping 15 meters into air into SLAMMING ITS OWN BACK AGAINST THE FLOOR), all its gear looks as awful as itself, and it is voted the most popular consistently so it is readded to every game plus obviously the devs will guess that's what the fans want more of.

Every other monster I can think of modern or old makes an attempt at looking and acting like a real animal with various degrees of success, they have more natural colors they don't have random pointless evil edge spikes on them, none of them look like they completely threw all design guidelines out of the window and they don't attack like they are a dmc playable character. It is bad and if you like it we cannot be friends.

>How is a back slam any less realistic an attack than a belly flop?
Still nonsensical, but that's all it has. It punches you really hard, and it can throw massive boulders at you but it takes it a long time to do so. Nothing except one single attack looks as stupid as almost everything from zinogre, plus it looks like something that could pass as an animal unlike zinogre. Firing thunder beams is almost normal in MH and zinogre's fulgur bug attacks are the most acceptable part of it.

Zinogre ticks every single box and does it in an spectacularly stupid way. The monster itself looks ridiculous and its attacks are so over the top they cannot be compared to anything else in the franchise before gen 5, the way it spins and jumps breaking all physics laws without any sort of explanation.

The only other one monster I can think of that I have this much of an issue with is glavenus, but this one at least only looks ridiculous, it doesn't have physics breaking moves or things that are completely nonsensical. It looks stupid to the point that it looks like an early concept design, the kind of over the top edgy designs that they do to see how far they can take it and what works, but someone mistook it for the real version. However it just looks stupid (and shoots lava for some reason, that bothers me deeply too). It doesn't spin like a beyblade, it just does it once with the momentum it would naturally build while sharpening with its fangs. It doesn't shoot lava everywhere like a gravios, or jump into the air after a 360º spin with its tail to slam the tail on you. It is still frankly ridiculous but I'd prefer it over zinogre.
Plesioth is the worst monster hunter monster. Prove me wrong.

Yeah, it's pretty close to not counting as a proper handheld. Unfortunately that was just the direction handhelds were going in, back when they were still made.
It's like calling a laptop a portable gaming system. Yeah, it fits the definition technically, but it's not something you casually bring with you whenever you feel like it. It's inconvenient and easily damaged. Anyway, you're obviously just being a faggot because you can, so I don't know why I'm bothering to give you proper replies.

FU makes total sense as the most complete gen 2 package. It feels very different from the later games and still has a lot to offer if you can get past the jank.
Replies: >>250938

It's still not what I'd recommend a brand new player to play however. Really I've spent a couple hours on paint making a rough sketch and at the end I realized no chart is necessary, if you want to get a message across to new players you don't need anything fancy, only "PLAY ANY GEN 3 GAME THEN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT".

>MH1 and Dos are the janky weirdos for people who specifically look for that, or veterans.

>FU expects too much grinding and item usage/grinding for someone who's completely new

>4U is shit and I'll die on that hill, and even if you like it you can't defend the horrible weapon balance or all the still janky verticality mechanics

>XX is bad for newcomers and it is actually well explained in the OP chart.

In the end it's either Tri, 3U or P3rd. Again, FOR COMPLETELY NEW PLAYERS. FU isn't a completely terrible introduction since, well, very few people will play Dos or MH1. But any game from gen 3 is still better as a starting point, and I will say Tri beats all of them because in short and concise, the new online servers, and its lingering old school difficulty without carrying all the old gen jank luggage and more accessible to new players.

The chart I'm designing basically says "just play gen 3", then recommends FU or the PS2 games, then the rest. After a very concise chart like in the OP I want to add a detailed, 150-ish words description about every game. Probably in a separate image.

TL;DR: If you compare a top tier weapon in 4U to a low tier one then yeah the balance was clearly not a dev priority.

At some point nip autists ranked all the weapons based on solo speedrun times. I don't remember their exact methodology but their top 5 ranked weapons were definitely strong based on my time playing 4 online back in the day.

1. Insect Glaive: Disgustingly easy to use, you could just walk up to the monster and mash attack buttons to do as much or more damage than teammates trying twice as hard. On top of that it was the weapon that could abuse the mount mechanic the best. Easily the best weapon in the game.

2. Greatsword: Old familiar is the only weapon that could equal the IG in damage output but only if you are landing your charge attacks, making it a little harder and a lot more satisfying to use. I remember the skill punishing draw on GS against Teostra and Kirin was extremely effective to the point it made hammer feel obsolete.

3. Heavy Bowgun: Not much to say about HBG, it's basically ranged GS. A lot of online players would always take the Seregios bowgun to hunt Shaggy because the reload on roll ability paired well with rolling around to dodge the geyser spam.

4. Charge Blade: I was shocked the nips ranked the CB this low. Against certain monsters I would personally rank CB higher than IG. As long as you can reliably fish for counters and land phial attacks on the monster's head, you can land 3 KO's per hunt and have the hunt last about 3-4 minutes.

5. Dual Blades: Probably best compared to the IG, if you want to trade bug buffs for chugging dash juice then DB is a solid alternative. Status DB in a group is basically cheating.

Don't remeber the placement of the rest of the weapons except that Hunting Horn and Gunlance were dead bottom. HH is still good in a group and I recall liking its moveset against certain endgame monsters like Rajang and Teostra. Gunlance struggles because it's the least mobile weapon in a game which at the time had the most spastic monsters the series had ever seen.
Replies: >>251241 >>251248
>>251017
I finished all of 4u (except apex Rajang, fuck that) with a friend recently and this a very good summary. All I can add is that the GS is mediocre if you don't have the skills to unleash its true power and playing it can be very awkward because of how fast the monsters sometimes are.

The glaive and the CB are utterly ridiculous and amazing at everything.
>>251017
Keep in mind the differences between each rank is anywhere between a few seconds to within a minute with optimal builds. "Balance" is well considered, it's just that some weapons are just so easy and time-efficient to use in comparison to others that learning and building them in the first place make it feel like they're under performing, despite having similar times at the optimal level.

Opinions on Wilds anyone?
Anyone else play the Beta?

>>262489
It's a decent romp, and definitely... "some kind" of an entry point if you're new to the series and haven't spoilered yourself on the monster roster yet. Plays almost nothing like the oldgen of Gen1-4, but it's the direction the games are going for better or for worse, as we run up to Wilds. That said, the Iceborne DLC is what rounds out the game and is the equivalent of an entire extra campaign, along with doubling the total monster count.
They "tried" with a story (it's shit), they "tried" with a characters (they're shit); but at its core the weapon movesets are about as good as it's gotten for many weapontypes (some peaked with styles in GU, GL and only GL doing better in Wilds, Rise is a wannabe action game), it's as good as it's got for monster designs and movesets, it's as good as it's gotten for maps though Wilds seems to be gunning for that spot and the atmpsphere is extremely well executed, especially the Iceborne Hub.
Difficulty is a crapshot - if it's your first game, it'll ease you in slowly, if not you'll breeze the fuck through the casual-as-fuck pre-DLC content. Avoid Defender Gear, it's journalist mode intended to skip the basegame even harder. DLC campaign is where it starts to put up a fight, and the final two post-DLC-game monsters will bust your balls if you're not git gud enuf for them. **also the Witcher 3 crossover monster, but that's a different beast entirely*; even before the monster-madness / oneshot challenge hunts.
Make sure to use https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/1982/ & https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/3473 & https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/3474 to get a notable boost in fps, so you can run it on higher settings (it got a bad rep on release, but it runs alright these days, and nearly "well" with those 3). Most other mods are the equivalent of cheat shop infinite hacks or cheat overlays, and just ruin the experience; with the exception of Handler reskins like >>228119 https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/1914 (I'd recommend the model only ver.) (alas you can fix a face, but not a personality) (serious handler replacement mod is better, but it's spoilers) (you'll seek it out yourself when the time comes).

On one hand, it's easy to fall for the fearmongering, on the other hand I don't trust a word that any journalist rat has to say on principle.
As easy as World / Rise were, the easiest game in the series is still Portable Third (which I managed to nearly beat at 13 without a translation patch on a shitty hacked PSP, before getting walled by Amatsu and putting it off) (I'm not humblebragging, it was just an easy game), and P3rd is the most successful oldgen game of them all.

I reserve my own opinion until I've formed it. I heard there were graphical issues with the beta (eg origami monsters), yet I never had any issues on near-ultra (minus performance leech crap like volumetric fog) with my mid-tier rig, so I'm not going to put it down for something I never experienced. If it's a snooze, it's a snooze, if it's a normal entry, it's a normal entry, if it's saved in the Title Updates like how Rise's main storyline was literally fucking unfinished on release and needed Sunbreak to be playable, it's a disappointment. We can all wish for Dos 2, but that's not realistically happening. I'll be playing with a self-imposed challenge anyways as a veteran and turning off all the autoplay shit, so that's that.

World / Iceborne had it's moments, Ancient Leshen is one a lot of people skip over to get into the DLC without realizing the HR series-crossover event fight is the hardest fight in the game solo (including DLC, including Arch-Tempered Velkhana). Viper Tobi-Kadachi and Ruiner Nergigante also caught me off guard in the DLC and took some effort to clear.
That said, a game's a combination of multiple elements (multiplayer experience and setting is a big one for MH; the same way Elden Ring Nightreign might have the bosses and apparent difficulty of FromSoft, but is still a hollow shell of a cashgrab for lacking everything else). If the foundation is there, they've got all the HD monster models from World to port over EZPZ in their own time; an update cycle of 2 returning monsters + something new every few weeks would be great as a weekend-hop-on type game like the Iceborne release schedule was (which mind you, was during the pandemic meme while productivity was down, and was why we missed out on the intended Matured / Black Dragon Class Safi'Jiva or Arch-Tempered Shara) and would last them a long time until the inevitable G-Rank / DLC is ready.

Again, I'm no blind idiot (Crapcom's record is birdshot these days), but I'm veering a bit more on expressing optimism over my doubts to balance out the discussion. I'll be happy as long as I have a fun experience, but it does need to have some gristle to chew either at launch or within the first major content patch (as in, more than just adding Deviljho and calling it a day) into if it wants to have any long-term retention. Crown hunting and early set building only lasts for so long.
If you go into it wanting to be disappointed, you'll focus on that; more than playing a game and wanting it to be fun. Lets play the damn game first.

According to the tw@ter account for MonHun, first Title Update is scheduled in early April and is coming with the dedicated non-integrated multiplayer hub for postgame-only and 2 new hunts minimum, including one that's "a challenge above tempered".

Also from what I've seen (without spoilers), the reason why the game is apparently "easy" is that the Palicos have been buffed to shit. Journo scum were all using and abusing LS / HBG + SOS (which, with no players, spawns a superbot to hardcarry you through your 'emergency') to pump damage, but unlike World, the cats actually pull their weight this time and act as Player 2 without just being aggro pullers and distractions, and start off with upgraded Vigorwasps, basically forcing you to stay on life support against anything that won't oneshot you. Otherwise, playing without cats (for LR at least) is apparently the usual challenge.

The beta ran godawful for most people, from what I can tell release does run better for most. It was so bad that half the steam discussions were complaining about performance, and the other half was threads like this https://steamcommunity.com/app/2246340/discussions/0/4630356844642077915/
Then again, for me the beta crashed my window manager with no survivors because linux + AMD, so anything was an improvement.

Both, but it was the GPU at fault. So you shouldn't have those issues anyway. NVidia had it's own issues, but I think those have been resolved already?

Don't know if it applies for fresh installs like the Anons ITT, but deleting the 1GB shader cache file took my game folder from choking on Low Textures at barely 20fps to being able to run High Textures at 60fps (pre 1% drops, so I prefer Medium).
Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds, search for shader / shader.cache2

Don't forget reframework for free frames. Apparently Crapcom don't like force-clearing the shader cache on every update for whatever reason, so it chokes the cache on itself with each update when they don't.
I remember the first load-in on launch took a solid half an hour, so it might be that, but it werkz on my machine. Bit ticked off that the Akuma crossover didn't just let us wear the clothes, the ragged trousers would have been perfect for my Hunterdude's effay.

Also, according to the Event Quest schedule, Lagiacrus update / roadmap is set for the first few days of July. Lagiacrus's update is going to have a new cave-area-lair region in the Scarlet Forest, just past where Mizutsune's intro was + similar to Plesioth's desert cave in MH1; and is also coming with Layered Weapons and AT Uth. Steve is up next as the next Monster afterward, nesting at the Plains in the upper cliffs region, then it's mystery nigger territory. Going off of Gore moving to a new locale every update, it's likely Shaggy is on the agenda, but it's ultimately unknown.

>multiple hub places instead of just 1
>monster designs are very cool

<Things yuck!
<further streamlined and dumbed down gameplay in some aspects but toned down in some other
<like in world you don't really have to track the monster since it's always on the minimap and there's a marker for fucking everything at all times
<farming parts is basically a thing of the past since you get a fuck ton of parts from a single hunt courtesy of the new "wound" system which just gives you free parts by hitting a monster in the highlighted weak spot, you basically get x2 or x3 the amount of parts you'd get in older games
<knockoff mon hun chocobo is basically an unmanned train ride to the monster/objective
<runs pretty bad on powerful hardware despite not looking the part, extremely unstable 60-110, mostly 80 avg at 1440p
<had to jump through hoops to play it at all
<missing the classic monster hunter theme, I was pretty miffed it wasn't there during character creation

So yeah, long story short it's World 2, in a different setting with a couple differences and minor details here and there, I can't agree with anon here
>at the very least the new monster designs are cool and the difficulty flatline of the basegame (tl;dr play with a notable self-imposed handicap or the entire game is tutorial difficulty) got fixed up within the first update with the 8☆'s and the Final Boss repeatable.
I found the monsters difficulty mostly fair so far, slightly easier, but not by much, than some older games. It took me around the same amount of time to beat them as it did in the past. With that said I hardly played World and never played Rise, so I'm not 100% on board with the cheesy mechanics they introduced and I kinda just played oldschool and that might've played a role in it. Some screenies.

>farming parts is basically a thing of the past
You're correct, but not to that extent; wounds only reward the most common drop/s, while you aren't aware that Investigations can guarantee the rarest drops lategame (Gems / Mantles etc); but the second-rarest parts that don't show up guaranteed are annoying to get, and there's far more shit to grind for, since Charms are more prevalent early and making any HR armor automatically unlocks it as a Layered Piece for /fa/.
Basically, Giant Beaks are still annoyingly uncommon.

>basically an unmanned train ride
You can turn that off in the settings, and once you know the maps, it's notably faster too since the pathing has some missing shortcuts; with the latter 3 areas in particular having massive shortcuts over the auto-path due to their verticality and the ability to hop off any ledge / hidden path and glide around. The latter also enables you to get a guaranteed aerial attack on any monster you've got height over by gliding along, of which two aerials = guaranteed mount sequence. World's Raider Rides were actually more autopilot / less in-depth, but most people never unlocked / abused them to begin with.
Really, there's a lot you can do in the settings, most of the HUD is custom too, and you can trim a lot of fat off.

>runs pretty bad on powerful hardware despite not looking the part
Again https://github.com/praydog/REFramework-nightly/releases/download/nightly-01179-e4d00a5a774e1a1b64cce53023256129dbf18177/MHWILDS.zip , unzip that and throw that in Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds for ~5-15 free frames and improved stability. Not an excuse for crapcom, just a workaround.
Also doesn't help that the earlygame is focused on the depression seasons, with the first disaster being the sandstorm which looks accurately shit. It can have it's moments later on; with most of the improvements being major changes to the fidelity and lighting of the monsters that you don't feel until you compare it to world (most of World are clever normal maps and static environments, Wilds is detailed down to the scales and teeth and has a lot more minor details in endemic and plantlife). They 100% fucked the skybox by trying to make it more realistic though.

Dunno about honeymoon, I can say I found World fairly boring and confusing. It's ReFramework, basically a top-level open source mod framework that does nothing but act as a giant bugfix / optimisation patch by itself (the only 'addition' being an Ultrawide hack that Crapcom also doesn't provide), that works on all other games running RE Engine (including Rise, which it's A-OK on and never had any action against it). The main "mods" being banned are the ones that unlock unavailable items early, fuck up online lobbies (aka instakill SOS) or enable people to cheat times in the Arena / Time Attack rankings. It's unlikely Crapcom would ban a patch that covers their own ass performance and has 1.5 million+ downloads on Nexus alone (https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterwilds/mods/93). Anything past that is at your own "risk" / stupidity / gall, but I am as good as certain that they will never make any move on ReFramework on it's own over people just wanting more frames.
That, and it's client side / non-server-side / basically impossible for them to "get".

>We'll see, so far I've only had to hunt a monster 2-3 times max for the full set
I've had times where I started the latest quest for some new cosmetic doohickey they added, beat the monster once, and got all the new mats required to make the thing in one go.
But grinding materials isn't exactly my favorite thing, so my issue is just that everything is piss baby easy. The only remotely difficult fights are endgame monster A because of its speed and some camera issues, the repeatable version of the final boss but only if you play with people who don't know the gimmick, and the arch tempered fight they added because people complained about the lack of challenge. Except the latter was also a temporarily available quest, so you won't even be able to do it until they decide to bring it back.

The wound system isn't overpowered because of dropping parts, but because for a ton of monsters you can keep them thrashing around on the floor like a toddler that had his phone taken away for half the battle. Couple that with overly low health pools and you end up with boring snoozefests you don't want to fight again even if you don't need materials from them. 3 fun fights does not make for a workable endgame, and the content trickle only adds one hour of gameplay every few weeks.

Like you notice, actually progressing through the game is plenty fun. So it's not a bad game necessarily, even if it is a terribly optimized one. It's just a bad Monster Hunter game. Also fuck the amount of forced walking cutscenes.

>>282135
Yeah, REFramework, changing the DirestStorage dll version, updating FSR, and probably the cosmetic-only mods like bigger tits are all fine. Just don't install anything that changes gameplay and thus the packets you send to their servers, and you're fine.
The couldn't care less of the story of Monster Hunter Wilds. Hell Crapcom obviously doesn't either because it invalidates the story with lol super extreme bioengineered monster is was actually just mass produced despite the story previously making it some mythical legend that single handily brought down the super advanced civilization.

The worst part are the Sony tier walking segments. They desperately want you to see the world and how it is made, but they gave you a mount that zips by everything. Why would any player spend more then 2 seconds when they have can speed past and get to the monster hunter killing part? The world itself is useless when the majority of it is ignored because you know where the monster always is and can pick and choose which monster you want to fight by just popping up the map.

It does more for improving the lows in your framerate than improve the average, at least in my experience. Without REF I get stutters every so often, with it I don't. The DRM it disables does some shit with texture loading, and it streams textures from your SSD whenever you turn the camera, so it's pretty consistently annoying.
If nothing else, just cap your framerate at whatever you need for your monitor and just enjoy the $0.05 you save in electricity. Not like installing it cost you anything, right?

I dunno bros, I'm having fun honestly, I'm not a big fan of the streamlining/casualization of certain mechanics but really World is to blame for that and it is to be expected from anything past it. Overall I think it's pretty decent, I'm liking the story, the monster designs, the locations, the graphics and all, maybe I'm a casul but it doesn't seem all that much easier like many say either. Even my friends keep saying "It's easy it's easy! The story is all tutorial mode!" but to me it seems just a smidge easier, but not by much and I still don't know about the end game hunts. Casualization aside, pinning that on World and its consequences, my biggest gripe is the performance. With that said I wouldn't recommend anyone buy it at full price and certainly not in its current state, only reason I'm playing it is because someone bought it for me.

>>282184
I'm not really seeing it, I still get stuttering when I turn around or go into a new area too quick. Maybe it works better on lower end systems, it's typically that way.
>>282288
>Maybe it works better on lower end systems, it's typically that way.
I dunno, I have a 5950x and a 7800XT. A bit odd perhaps since the CPU is more for multithreading than gaming, but it's not really "low end" I'd say. That said, I'm also on loonix so my experience can't really be compared to most other people who play this shit anyway.

But if you also have the camera move stutter and REF doesn't fix it, I dunno how to help. Used to be you could update the DirectStorage dll, but that's already been done in the latest update far as I know.
I think SSDs might be the biggest cause of people getting shit performace while they have XYZ latest GPU model - most people building a gaming rig focus on GPU first, CPU second, and the SSD is probably one of the first things to get skimped on due to budget constraints. Or they just have no idea about what a good SSD is at the time they build their rig. I'm guilty of the latter, myself.

Update: still having fun, I just cleared chapter 2 which I believe probably puts me about halfway into the game and I think I should reword and rephrase my thoughts from these posts >>282073 >>282288
>monster designs are very cool
I did indeed meet a few monsters which I didn't like that much and felt like they didn't really belong, namely the **two spiders and the whatever puffy poison crow thing" they had that "unnerving" and "uncanny" factor that made me dislike them. Their overall design, the way they sounded and moved made me wonder if Capcom borrowed talent from their RE department to make them because to me at least they didn't look very Monster Hunter like. I also got that feel when I first met those big ugly yellow black and bugs, granted they had creepy crawlies in previous games but they were still stylized and colorful enough not to bother me, these were too realistic looking, yuck.
>100% monster hunter look and feel in all departments
The more I play, the more areas and places I visit, the more this rings true, every area so far looks fucking amazing, it's just what I would expect from a MH title but with current gen standards.
<farming parts is basically a thing of the past etc
As anon said, not 100% accurate. Rare parts are still rare and you will need to hunt monsters multiple times for those, it's just the common parts that you get showered with. I killed this one fucker some 6 times and I still haven't found a single rare part of his, so I still haven't unlocked 3/5 parts of his armor.
<runs pretty bad on powerful hardware despite not looking the part
Yes it runs bad, but I need to clarify the "not looking the part" bit. Art direction wise, the game looks simply stunning, the maps, the monsters, everything made me go "woOOOOOw" however, for how it runs, the graphical fidelity could certainly be a notch or several higher. I briefly tried Cyberslop 2077 and it ran at about the same framerate, but man some places in there looked near indistinguishable from reality, and I'm talking during gameplay, not prerendered cutscenes. I'm not saying Mon Hun should look as near photorealistic as Cyberpunk, the graphics are fine as they are but it's been 5 years since Cyberpunk and I can't justify a game looking worse than contemporary or older games while running the same or worse.
>>282299
>I think SSDs might be the biggest cause of people getting shit performace
The game is on a Hynix P41 which ranks top 20 or top 10 in Tom's Hardware benchmarks of m.2 SSDs. These went for 200 bucks a pop I got lucky I nabbed 2 during Black Friday. I don't think that's the problem, it's just shit optimization on their part.

>Either use the spoiler feature for the reason it's intended to be used, or don't use it at all.
How dare I post spoilers using the spoiler feature, intended for spoilers? If someone had showed me my own screenshots before I had a chance to play the game I'd probably not have the same reaction to them once seeing them for the first time and I'd feel like I missed out. >Spiders
Nerscylla is actually a returning monster from 4th Gen, she's been around for a while and has variants based off of whose skin she's wearing at any one time, depending on if she's predating on Gypceros or Khezu (possibly more if she gets another variant in the inevitable expansion). As for the other two, Rompopolo in particular is based off of the idea of if a therapod had evolved to have similar traits as an Ibis (the bin juice drinking cunts) since birds are the dinosaur's closest living relative today, hence why it's diet is primarily crustaceans / oil microfauna and it's at the bottom of the Basin food chain (using the gasses to disrupt the sediment). It just does so in a way so unique / alien that it appears almost full-fantasy, much like how real-world biology can get weird at times. A lot of Monster Hunter (when it's not based off of mythology) is actually derivative of paleontology / paleo-art in that regard.
>gross
Arachnophonia mode in the settings turns the Bulquachi and the ice-region one into slimes. The funny part being that it doesn't alter Barina or Nerscylla, so people scared of spiders get rused.
>Fidelity
The HD Texture pack exists as a separate download, but it requires 16GB VRAM minimum and makes a horribly optimised game run even worse. If anything it's known to be VRAM intensive, but with CPU bottlenecks.

Graphics faggotry always blows me away because we could all be playing games at 1080p 120 fps or even 1440p and it would be a definitely better experience than pretending bazillions of pixels and realistic lighting is important.

IIRC Cyberspunk 2069 uses Path tracing, which is the next graphical meme up from Ray tracing, and is what makes (all) light look near photo-realistic at the expense of kneecapping performance even harder - the main feature being that it fracts color / shadow off of all tinted surfaces (not just reflections / mirrors). MHWilds runs on ReEngine, which is an 8 year old engine at this point and has already been superceded by REX / ReEngine V2 (Wilds is only on the previous because of the incredibly long development time). The outdated engine is also one of the main culprits behind the dogshit performance, since it was intended for Resident Evil corridor simulators, not dynamic open worlds (unlike REX's design), the other major one being the dynamic value encryption anti-mod bullshit that causes the CPU bottleneck.
I don't see the next MH from the portable team being photo-real in fidelity given their track record of going more toon-like / fantasy-over-ecology, but at the very least there's an answer why Wilds (and most of the rest of the industry) is so laggard in graphical standards these days.

Fun fact (IIRC): The first notable game to use a primitive version of Path Tracing was Sonic Unleashed way back in 2005-2008 development time, albeit Path Tracing the levels in-house then baking it into the pre-rendered textures and using a completely different simpler + exponentially less resource-intensive shader for in-game dynamic shadows (that could keep up with the blue blur's shadow breaking the sound barrier). It took the Sonic team hundreds of computers all rendering the same scene at once for ~48-72 hours straight, per level (else it would have taken a literal month of rendering per level by their calculations) and tripped the power for their entire Tokyo city block numerous times. To this day despite being mostly prebaked lighting, Arid Sands & Jungle Joyride have only just barely been able to run at 60fps on modern emulators with current high-end hardware (even when the recent decompile showed that it was coded pretty well).
While the logic / code behind Path Tracing has progressed and been optimised immensely since 2007, it's a testament to how intensive Path tracing is, how impressive of a feat it was to get it working on the PS2/3 on a single disk, how skilled the Sonic team of that era were, and how much of a fuckup SEGA were to let them all get poached by Nintendo for Mario.

<Surely there's no meme after Path Tracing right? Lazy devs using template Ray Tracing is already bad enough....
Keep an eye out for Photon Mapping once near-infinite lighting calculations become feasible :)))))

In a nutshell, I came no less than 16 times, 5 of which were thick and dense. The story was almost sufficient, it's not the best, or the worst, but it seemed too short, the game overall felt too short and going too fast from one place to the other without letting you settle down and get your bearings. It took me 40 hours to get to the credits but around 10 were fucking around, doing optional quests and playing multiplayer stuff also. There isn't much niggardry to go about but nice try Crapcom shoving the most eugenic brown child you'll ever see in your face and forcing him down your throat as the true main protagonist of the story, at least the handler doesn't look ugly this time around. In short 6.5 maybe 6.9, I would argue it was better than World but it's not worth AAA game money, I'd never recommend it to anyone at full price. I would if it was 50% off and targeted a portable console like an imaginary Vita 2. Take everything I said with a grain of salt, this is my first modern day AAA game that I play through the end in a while, so my judgement might be slightly biased towards favorable because I'm wowed by the technology, graphics and such.

I'm gonna dump a few screenshots now, I learned too late that steam compresses screenshots so 80% of them are shitty jpgs, shame. Also spoilers, duh.

Make sure to stick around for the postgame stuff, you've still got quite a few unique monsters to hunt minimum (including quest cutscenes) albeit all of them are previous gen returners. There's one in particular that always gets a fun kick out of newfags who aren't aware of it's gimmick/s. Also the Zoh gets it's real fight + Dahaad gets it's slay quest, and neither fuck around this time, even by veteran player standards.
anyone bothered with the crapcom spotlight? they had a mon hun segment and it sucked dick, no mention of performance improvement and bug fixes, mos of it was about cosmetic dlc and useless crap, the only good news is the two new monsters, the cover boys of tri and 4

So Im playing through 4U and I gotta ask what is the fucking deal with torches anyways? Who decided that no matter what that torches were so valuable that on par with maps there would always be a torch in the supply chest? There is a gathering point in the everwood that gives torches and only torches. Just so that you never have to worry ever about not having a torch. They thought that torches were so great that if you want to replicate the effect with gems you have to use fucking AGNAKTOR materials, making it on par with handicraft as a skill.
And for what? as far I as I can read all it does is attract small bugs and repel small monsters like raptors. Is there some other fucking hidden effect that nobody knows? Like what the fuck why does the capcom have such a hardon for torches when they do fucking nothing

IIRC the intent was that there would be areas where light is so limited, you need the torches just to see to begin with. However, the graphical capabilities on the handheld just weren't there, and they very clearly didn't go all-in.
Best you can get is probably custom-lowering the brightness if you want a feel for what it'd be like.

Going to give Rise a shot soon, I know that Switch Skills can majorly change how a weapon handles a la Hunting Styles from GU, but I'm still floating on which weapontype to focus on.
Any good / fun recommendations? Right now I'm floating over DB's. Difficulty shouldn't be an issue, since I'll be running some challenge mods anyways since I know Rise is a cakewalk.

>Omega (or, The Omega Weapon) is the recurring secret boss / hyperboss in the Final Fantasy series (an optional boss that is very powerful, often more so than the game's final boss, and generally has no bearing on the storyline, it's existence only being for a challenge and bragging rights upon defeat), where it is often depicted either as the perfected form of any path in automatron evolution, or as a dimension-traveling superweapon created by an ancient civilization and let loose in an attempt to hunt down the Divine Dragon Shinryu, the other commonly recurring secret boss / hyperboss.
Here's your Extremoth for this basegame title. It's on the Spider rig, and you're gonna fight it in the one place that can support it (Dahaad's 3rd Area), so yes, it's 100% going to be spamming AoE's all fight (even before it's signature teamwipe oneshot Wave Cannon), just as Yoshi-P intended. You might be disappointed, but with the state of 9* hunts already, and how Extremoth introduced the series's first raid mechanics, first DPS check and was World's first true Town Quest - there's a good chance this thing is going to sand your teeth down. For context, if Behemoths are common endgame enemies, this is ultra-satan and is a literal world-first-speedrunner grade raid boss (Normal: https://yewtu.be/watch?t=465&v=p1HFqaglIC0 True: https://yewtu.be/watch?t=690&v=ne95nU1haUw). And let's not forget that everyone thought World was a cakewalk on release, until Behemoth gave them a reality check on how Monster Hunter cycle goes.

Well, the adventures of Inosuke have begun, crazed dual-wielding boar-man of relatively well-renown. As mentioned, I'm running a few mods, with the key takeaway being that they have massively increased aggression, less downtime, a lot have added / restored effects to their attacks (eg Tremors and Wind Pressure where it makes sense) and all Large Monsters are ~145-160% faster. Shame I can't bench the cat or the dog, so I've just lobotomised them and reduced their damage on top, setting them to gather-focus.
I've already eaten a few carts in the realm of LR for playing sloppily, so I can tell this is going to be perfect for my tastes.

It's a proto-open world with hundreds of active entities, running on an engine designed for walking through small corridors slowly. Like Dragon's Dogma 2, you can't fix what it was never designed to do, only cope that it's a current gen game that requires current gen hardware can run it.
At least the next one is going to be on REx.

I don't know what the fuck they did to Khezu between the mods I've got installed, but it's dragging me through gravel here, two triple-carts already. I think they've changed Thunderblight to either be an instant stun if hit afterward, or very close to instant. That plus the speed makes it's self-discharge basically unreactible, so it's almost permanently applied and an instant kill if hit afterward, and I'm downing Nullberries like crack in a 90's black neighborhood. Tobi gave me a run for my money to the point I could only wait on punish windows to sneak in 1-2 dash attacks, but Khezu really is something else here.
It has me blundering like a Bloodborne speedrunner. I'll definitely need to slot in Thunder Res 3 to immune the blight, I'll put it off for now. Perma-application blights also seem to be a trend here, since Pukei practically had me permanently poisoned with unreactible clouds too.

That said, the difficulty is suprisingly fun; not only is it making me feel like a newfag again, but I'm practically forced to keep my weapons updated and target weaknesses, so the movement and natural element / status synergy with DB's is a great choice here.

*Yeah, just checked, it's been changed at minimum so Pukei's backstep-poison and his triple-spit are full smog-clouds instead of pathetic small projectiles; so even a tiny slip-up in positioning turns you purple.
Also the comparison goes to show the difference the mods make, like wow, I didn't notice it was so fun extreme, even before the total lack of trips / knockdowns the mod removed. Base Rise really does seem pathetically easy.

I am just laughing at how bikinis and fanservice have morphed into a near-mathematical and physical constant of market economics the instant the ESG/DEI scheme deflated like a popped balloon. It also makes me mad that JP companies even tried to dip their toes in whoring themselves out to globohomo because you can SEE that they have the data and know which approach makes money and which approach burns it and they'll still trying both. They're making themselves look like clowns, just like Bandai Scamco trying to backtrack on mannifying Asuka in Tekken but still censoring the Tales remasters, Konami trying to pretend they care about feminism and fewings with content warning screens while putting out milf-pandering in Bombergirl, and Koei Tecmo pledging allegiance to sustainability but having Penis Vacation Prism outsell Atelier Yumia. Hell, not even the return of fanservice is all that good either; it used to be that the sexo designs were just there to get you to buy their game but now they try to uglify the default models then hawk those sexo designs behind DLC paywalls. You can also tell the devs are doing this to distract from the fact they literally called their customers terrorists on the level of those retarded Chapo Tard House assassins a few months ago because those customers wanted a game that worked.
Fuck Wilds and fuck Crapcom. I will pirate Pragmata even if Diana ends up making the game float.

short answer: yes
long answer: yes it just works :^)
if you have a jailbroken 3ds y-you did jailbreak your 3ds right anon? then all you have to do further is get the nimbus app. you can get it from universal downloader, which is a hub of a bunch of homebrew tools. then you just run it like you would any other game you have downloaded to your 3ds, and out of the two options choose pretendo. Then you open the game and bam, it just works. There might be some extra hoops to jump through for getting the DLC and I haven't tried it with monhunXX english fan translation but that's it. I didn't have to make an account or register anything on a faggot discord, it just works.
source:~~my ass~ I'm using it right now trying and failing to figure out the gunlance
also while the topic of 3ds hacks is up download Hshop as well. that just lets you download just about any 3ds game and it also just works

Well, for lack of anyone else hopping on with, here's my take on Gogmazios:
He's not like he was in 4th Gen, but he does feel like a HR version of Gog

>Presentation is clean, the model is very good. Maybe the neck-face could have been a bit more prominent, but I'm not complaining.
>The "gimmick" segments don't feel overbearing like with Lagiacrus's forced-underwater. The Power-hookup is a nice unique mechanic that makes the not!Scaffolding portion feel more interactive than just waiting for the Dragonator, and the Dragon-Blaster-Pods made his aerial phases more fun than an Azure Rathalos sat in the air.
>Like Fatalis and Alatreon, Gog's Monster-Icon is loosely question-mark shaped, which is a nice detail they've ran with (Dire Miralis better follow suit)
<Oilspill no longer is a Bind Status, which is my biggest criticism. Instead of his Oil being functional instakills waiting to happen that you are forced to respect or build Bind Resistance for, they instead feel like you're fighting a really oversized Jyuratodus / Barroth with the mud puddles (except they explode like a Brachydios's slime). I think (?) they did this because you need to grind him for his Artian weapon rolls, and making him Savage-Omega-Tier would be unfair, but I still don't like it.
<Does every new Monster addition need a DPS check nuke that you need to stand behind something for? It would have been fine as a nuke on it's own that you'd need to run to the edges and heal through. That, and the Elemental DPS check is made redundant anyways by the Dragon-Blaster-Pods. Gog is the last Title Update, it's fine to make him as unforgiving as Alatreon / Savage Omega if you're going to rock up with a dogshit build. While Savage Omega felt like a good DPS check nuke, and Zoh / Jin's nukes were so-so, Gogmazios's in particular feels tacked on - neither a real "nuke" or a real "check".
<Gog's size and hitzones just translate poorly to nu-gen. Basically, his wing-arms are his best hitzones and everything else you can reach is a shitzone until you topple and get his face on the floor, but since he can move more freely around now, it's annoying chasing around those wingarms with a slower weapon.
<Being forced to play with and "care" about the NPC hunters can fuck right off, especially when Fabius's shield is unreliable, and they don't indicate you need to pay attention to wherever he's standing before Gog drops the nuke on your head (it's best to just bring your own). Olivia and Werner, sure since they're main storyline characters, Fabius and Nadia, you're pushing me to care because "they're returning", the rest of the no-names shouldn't be there. I am the Godslayer Gogslayer, they are background NPCs that didn't show up until today, they should know their place.
<Still trying to figure out what the point of the raised platform in the final area is, since Gog always destroys it almost instantly.

Despite not really finding it difficult after learning which moves to respect and how the new fight's tempo goes (I carted twice the first time when I got caught out while learning his new memes, once in Ph2 when I realised too late he turns the halogen radiator on and requires an environmental Cold Drink, the other in Ph3 because I was on the opposite side of the arena to Fabius - but ultimately still firsttimed him and I haven't carted once in the 7 times after), apparently he's shitstomping normalfaggots, so sure, he gets a pass. On one hand, I would have preferred him to be more faithful to his 4U counterpart, on the other hand, Kulve got an AT version as a post-release addition in World, so hopefully Gog can be restored to his truecombo oneshot glory in the DLC. Savage Omega is still the most fun fight in the game, and makes Wilds worth playing imo.

6.5/10, better than average, but until his Oil puts the fear of a cart in you, it's just not the Gogmazios I remembered. 8.5/10 if it did.

The new quests are good enough to mention too, there's a monkey rape quest with like 15 Blangos and 3 Blangonga's in the arena, and 3 new optional quests with superpowered 9* versions of each locale's highlights (eg Oilwell has a 9* Ajarakan that's almost perma-heated, a 9* Rathalos that is constantly accompanied by Rathians, and a 9* Udra on steroids - all in one quest, that pushes you to the limit of the 50 minute timer).

For anyone checking in on the performance, apparently it's all over the place, but their focus seems to have been on low-VRAM cards. I didn't notice anything different on my 16GB VRAM, but already could run it at a stable 60fps 1080p barring framedrops. Sorry if that's not very informative.

Since Nexus is fake & gay (I got the mods through a burner), have a zip https://fileditchfiles.me/file.php?f=/b70/slohzxufjTrDjCkFbdeu.7z
Assuming you know the basics and have some common sense on what might override what, the main mods that I'm concerned about are MHExtra, Rising Fury Lv2, Another Hitstop, Paint Kunai and Old World Consumables. Basically, just go through the .zip in order; make sure you install those 5 last to make sure they override anything else. (1) is just ReFramework, (2) are the ones that need manually dropping into the game directory and might be annoying to install, (3) is the mod manager / EZ installs. I don't have any custom quests in, but the functionality's there if needed and is required for Superdeath Risen Amatsu, which is a post-SB ultra-nightmare quest (before the other mods) based on an unused variant / cut content that I'm vaguely interested in, but that's much later.
I've got some other QoL (eg run-by Wirebug pickups), difficulty (Dog&Cat does less damage) and difficulty-focused modelswaps installed (eg making Narga + Chameleos harder to see), but since it's handled clientside, it shouldn't be a problem if you ignore them. You're free to use anything you want (who am I to stop you), but I only ask that you don't use obvious gameplay cheats like Rainbow Bird or Overlays.

Overall..... it 'should' work online. Probably just do lobby codes to join.

That said I'm warning you https://youtu.be/mGfxRsNzunQ&t=46 ,
1. Get a feel for the monsters first, respect them, they hit fast and hard, and they get faster and faster as their health lowers (their lowest HP having a fluctuating speed-up-slow-down mechanic that makes them borderline impossible to punish while they're sped up, and needing to wait for them to cool down). It took me 4 days to beat LR Magna with LR gear, it's Objective:Survive gameplay.
2. You need to be targeting element / status, so I'd say focus on one weapontype, and get it's tree unlocked. Also make sure you have / quickly get the EleRes decos vs any target's element to immune or shorten their blight; Khezu and Rath were nightmares in LR without them because they have increased size projectiles on top. I don't mind you carting (because I will too), but focus on staying safe before doing damage. Go with a comfort pick, don't bother what I'm doing / thinking.

You got a time you're good for? In +0 timezone preferably. I'm busy Saturday, but I'm free onward until ~the end of the month, minus a few days next week when I'm doing something (waiting on a delivery).

Think the only overlay I had was a dps or total damage one because my friend was using defender and I wanted to see how big the difference was. Monster HP/info overlays kinda really detract from the experience and you already have the limp to tell you when you can capture, so idk why you'd really use those other than doing min max autism build analysis.
Also can the cat&dog become busted or what? I'm genuinely curious as to whether it's a balance issue or a "I'm the hunter, bitch. You're only here to look cute" thing.

(Current posting hours might have been me posting after waking up because I was fixing myself back to waking up at 6 in the morning lol)

>Also can the cat&dog become busted or what?
50/50, the dogs do respectable enough damage that you can beat the game with them alone, the cats are more varied but can roll yet higher-tuned skills (eg mini-dragonator). Even ignoring large monsters, they both clear out small monsters passively, which removes some of the bite of pack fights. It's mostly "look cute", but they do have times they can get carried away with second-player output.
I'd bench them, but you need a dog if you want to travel on it, and the cat has gathering skills that make life easier, so it's just simpler to delete their damage and keep their utility.

Time, I'm about the same, call it 16-23 EST (few hours from now, just woke up), some time to wake up, do other things, then get on. You can post a private lobby code tomorrow, I can, whoever's on.

<Mfw I read this shit
Good lord, that is so stupid.
These dogs are there for you to go fast, why did they make them MC tier?
You bring 2 and watch them play the game for you? The extremely expanded toolset/mobility wasn't enough? What the fuck were they thinking?

Should be plenty of time to get through at least one(1) hunt.
Surely I won't cart 15 times in a row
Would be neat to get other autists in with us, but I'll count my blessing that I already got one other person this fast on a dead webring :)

To be fair, it's not as simple as letting them do it for you, you need to be pretty good, buff them with a Horn, target weaknesses, be pretty eugenic with the dogs skills, and it runs close to the time limit on a few missions; but the point stands.

Imageboards aren't supposed to be fast (go outside to a local park and look at what they're named after), people need to be more used to lurking, making higher effort posts with more permanence when something relevant to you gets discussed, ignoring stuff they don't care about, then doing something productive with one's time (worth talking about next post) instead of nolifing and wasting it. If I want a chatroom, I'd use a chatroom.
This is about the speed the earlier internet was, and I've not changed my mind on preferring it. Wonder if Omegle is still a notable thing.

I should be there soon, I just realised that a couple of mods didn't load and had to scour the internet a bit. Turn out the mod manager fucks up on linux and can't extract rar files correctly so I gotta rezip all of these.

>people need to be more used to lurking, making higher effort posts with more permanence when something relevant to you gets discussed
Hey, I wouldn't be here either if all I wanted
was high speed conversation and the fabled ((( PPH ))) that so many people seem to think is linked to quality discussions.

I'm thinking Somna, Tobi, Anja should be doable enough. I've always liked Barioth, but I know others struggle with him, but we're going to need to do at least one of Zinogre, Rathalos and Narga to hit the 5 completed, and none of them are pushovers.
On top, it'd be nice to get the boosted Moxie Dango (Jyura + Narga) and my DB Switch skill (Anja + Rathian) at some point, but we'll see how it goes.

At the very least, we're going to be coming up on a pretty significant progression stall, which is the HR100 grind. I don't know if they jacked up the HR point rate post-update-schedule like it was for the Grinding Lands in World, but the fact of the matter is that the postgame Elders (and the true ending of the basegame) (thanks crapcom) requires you to put in some elbow grease; and the moment you enter Master Rank, you get all the DLC skills / bonuses not available to the basegame, so you can't just leech HR off of MR and have the same basegame experience. That, and it's segmented every 10 HR, so if we were to go our own way just for each gate, it'd be awkward to re-convene every 10 account levels just to move through a content gate, only to carry on grinding whatever.
I was thinking that it might be best to go our own way for a while (maybe a month), disable the mods and just reach Valstrax / HR 100 by ourselves at our own pace (get a feel for Chameleos / Kushala / Teostra / Allmother's movesets), then re-do them all together on ultra-difficulty + Valstrax.
I know the other Anon needs to take some time to get his camps + gear + side-quest unlocks in order, and I'd personally like to get all my Dual Blade smithing trees maxed out (since it's a heavily matchup-dependant weapon), so it'd just be what we're doing now but at our own pace. Also because I want everyone to be fully geared + readied up for the postgame Elders on ultradeath difficulty leading into Master Rank, because we're kinda fucking around right now. Each of the Elders will want a tailored counterbuild, and we need to enter SSB++ Ultra Instinct Gamer Mode for Master Rank, since it adds new moves.

No matter what we go with, there's going to be a clear window where you (and maybe another 4th Anon) can catch up.
My main weapon is usually HH myself, and while I can recognise that it's different in Rise, the Rise changes would genuinely fit the modded difficulty more, since if you were to spend 7 seconds dooting like any Vanilla Horn would, you're going to get smacked across the room.

No this piece of shit only has green sharpness for some reason. so it was already as sharp as it could be.
Also can someone tell me why the fuck the crapcom game designers decided that the lance, which is, you know, the poke and bunker down weapon, should have a much shittier and slower poke than the gunlance? And why they gave it a retard shield smash when you shield and hold forward + attack when it's the most worthless fucking move out there? It's unreal how bad it can feel to play at times.

It's HR Tigrex night tonight. He's considerably harder than first thought - with much larger 360' damaging roars, boulders that cover a quarter of the zone, and basically no punish windows after any of his attacks (+ a mixup with a delayed spin, just in case we thought there was a reliable timing to learn). All that, and I'd still rather do it than deal with MHExtra Fury Magnamalo again.
In other words, a minor roadblock, and (I think?) the last mandatory fight before we have our 5 hunted to qualify to fight the "final boss"*^.

*(not actually the final boss of the campaign)
^(Master Rank not included)

Lance has the stronger guard (and can poke while guarding) and I'd imagine the Shield charge is a way to allow it to move forward, considering you can usually only backhop / sidehop (which leaves the Lance unable to chase even toppled monsters without breaking it's combo). That said I know GL was one of the winners in Rise, so I'm not in any place to comment.

FOR ANY ANONS READING ALONG, HERE IS YOUR WINDOW TO CATCH UP & GET READY TO PLAY WITH US BEFORE WE START MASTER RANK / SUNBREAK
YOU'VE GOT A WEEK / FEW WEEKS / UNTIL WE'RE READY AGAIN

So with that, we've "beat" the basegame. I'd honestly recommend turning the mods off, and knuckling down with cleaning up the remaining quests (Dangos, Sub-Requests, Notes & Endemics if you're into that, etc etc) and just doing random SOS's. Apparently the best way to farm HR is the Ibushi Rampage, but doing the other Rampages at least once to unlock the other Apex hunts (Rath+Rath / Zin / Mizu / Diab) later on wouldn't hurt. Also, I'm not going to hold it against you if you turn on the drop table normaliser, because there are numerous 1% droprates, and we're not just making one build, just as long as you're ready when you're ready.
When you find one of the content gates, just go through it in your own time, that'll be the following 3 Elders, the True Final Boss and then stop before Valstrax / HR100. We'll repeat the Elders on ultradeath, treat the base versions of them as the "practice" versions, learning the basic movesets, and then "discover" Valstrax as it comes.
The key thing is that as they're all Elders, all 5 will require a slay, since you cannot Capture Elders. So we'll be spending a full-length Fury duration with them at like 160% speed, no ending it early at 10-25%HP. All will probably need a custom-build, so get familiar with using presets in your equipment box.

Chameleos is Poison, and has a lot of unique bullshit. Obvious one is that it's going to be invisible, aside from the eyes, and only becomes visible for very short periods (bonus mod, just to make it lore accurate + worth fighting + it's interesting). Break the horn and I think the mod will actually makes him even more invisible (since it flips his invisibility states), so aiming for the eyes might be a bad idea. Second is that he steals shit, usually he steals items, but I think he drains your Spiribird meters in Rise (either, or on top), so be careful what items you bring, and double-up on healing methods in case he steals your Mega Potions. Third is that his Poison is way stronger than others, and lasts a shorter time, so it's designed to burn your antidotes while still doing more damage if you ignore it. Full Poison Res does not immune it, only reduces it, but I'd say it's still required. Final is that he's undetected, which means you can't lockon or dive-evade, and I don't think monster-reliant decorations like Agitator work vs him. Also, because we need to paintball-kunai him to see him on the minimap, he's just going to take a while to find, not sure if his icon in the corner flashes when you're in the same zone. In previous games Smoke bombs help reveal him for a time mid-fight, Sonic bombs do the same but only while he's mid-attack, and Poison / Exhaust makes his mouth drool, but otherwise, he's just weak to Fire and is a bag of tricks. Typically he's got the easiest moveset, but him being almost completely invisible is going to change that so he's toe-to-toe with the other two.

Kushala is Wind Pressure. He's a shitmon in every game he's been in (apparently "they fixed him" in Rise, but I doubt it), and he only makes reappearances because he was the mascot of 2nd gen. Basically, a lot of annoying AoE tornados that stagger you with constant Wind Pressure. More importantly is his black wind barrier, where basically unless you cancel it with poison, melee users get staggered just by approaching him (that normal Wind Pressure Res won't stop), and he's immune to bullets from gunners. Kush does have a full-zone-sized nuke, but it's very obvious and an easy read. Other than that, he has no direct weakness, and because Poison is fixed damage on him + Poison weapons are typically lower-tuned + constant stagger from wind preventing you from doing damage, so he's just the tankiest of the 3. Also, because the Poison threshold will continually get higher and higher, he's somewhat of a DPS race. I'm sure not in the base version, but in the mod he will be.
We need Poison status, and we need Wind Pressure resist, don't even bother without.

Teostra is Fire and Blast. He has two states he checks into, heated and dusted - heat means he's immune to bullets aside from his face + wings (until you break his horn) and has more fire attacks, while dust applies blast clouds to his other attacks. Once he's in both states, you count exactly 180 seconds, then he does a very fast hard-hitting nuke you need to predict instead of react (which is going to be even faster with the mods) (especially since MHExtra specifies Risen Teostra as one of it's focuses, before we added on Fury) and resets. I'm not sure if the mods will change that timing, or make it so only the explosion is faster, but it's something to watch for. Basically, once he's double-charged for a while, fully disengage and wait him out. Weak to Water uncharged, weak to Ice when he's amped up, both even out as equally effective. I don't think he has Blastblight status, just Blast-damage-explosions, so max out your Fire Res and general Defense, because he hits the hardest of the 3.
I'd hesitate to say he should be the easiest with mods since he's much less dangerous once you know to wait out the big bang, but he's also probably going to have the highest chance of getting cheap suprise-carts due to his high upfront damage and blast-juggling. Lunastra (Fire + Butane + Minor Wind-Pressure) (Teostra's Lioness) is harder, and also a much better fight, and also fits into the trio better. But many aren't ready to have that conversation yet, and she's not in Rise, so we're not going to go there.

All 3 share a Dragon element weakness on the face / horn.

I have not fought Allmother Narwa, I don't know what her details are, I'm just going to assume it's Narwa + some Ibushi moves. I'd guess Thunder Res + Wind Pressure, Artillery and Partbreaker decos would go a long way based on the fixtures scattered around, but idfk.

Valstrax is raw speed (Dragon + Hawk + Fighter Jet). Even before the mod, it's the fastest monster in the entire franchise, and the mods are going to make this thing do fucking DBZ instant transmissions when it's at Fury threshold. Immune to Dragon element, very weak to all other elements equally, but it shits out Dragon element damage, and while Dragonblight disables your element output, we're going to need full Dragon Res anyways, so immuning the blight should be a passive and elemental damage is the way to go. Few things to keep an eye out for is that it holds it's breath almost all fight, but has clear windows where it needs to breathe, where you can smack it in the chest and topple it. All it's attacks also do a ton of knockback, on top of it being evasive as fuck, which means we'll either learn where it'll finish moves at, or we'll be chasing it around like a Scooby Doo scene. It has two heavy-hitting moves, one's a forward blast (a Dragon element version of our old friend mountainsnipe's attack, except it's unblockable without Guard Up and does considerably more damage / chip damage). That, and it's signature move. It's either an instacart or about as damn close as it gets to an instacart in damage, but instead of clearing the area / zone like Teostra or Kushala's, it's just a really hard to avoid lockon to one target (tl;dr it's a homing missile, not a nuke or a nova). I might bring Farcasters just to GTFO if it's genuinely impossible to dodge when in Fury, because at least the startup is very telegraphed, and very very iconic. Basically, look up when it disappears. I'll tell you if I do choose to leave, because if I farcast out and you don't, it's going to lock on to you instead.

Funny to meet you in random quests out there
Also old world consumables is really fucked
This rethread of base rise when it's not modded is...more painful than I initially thought. Sure the first HR ranks are easy to get but that's just gonna get exponentially higher and higher. Which wouldn't be a problem if the base game wasn't so fucking boring.
These monsters all legitimately spend 90% of the battle standing still like they're tired of existing. Another 5% on the ground, another 4% running away and the rest attacking. Why the fuck thought this was a good idea in any way?
Tigrex and zinogre just became laughing stocks with attacks and speed that would rival a 90yo geriatric playing HOM&M3.
90% of the attacks deal like 5-10% of my hp max
I'm putting everything back on, I'd prefer to take an extra week farming alone than put up with that is ostensibly the most boring dogshit gameplay loop out there
Fuck nu crapcom devs. Holy mother of god they need to all get shot and never come back.

Found out (by finally being able to test it) that the Invisible Chameleos mod wasn't working, but there's a workaround,. Instead of installing via Fluffy, just drop the following file into the game directory with the other REChunks, rename it X so it's the last one in order. It's exactly as I wanted it to be too, it does turn visible for fair periods, but spends a large portion of the fight as a chameleon really would, and it does work with MHE & Fury (since it's technically just a model edit). So that's gonna be fun.

Related has a few other tweak-tier ones for Sunbreak, plus the custom Superdeath Amatsu quest (posting now rather than later, not sure if it'll even work, it's apparently pretty unstable). If there's any other minor mods you want to play with (eg weapon modelswaps), now would be the time to post them, I'll grab them / test them / zip them / post them while we've got downtime.

It's vague from what I could tell, some say you can't, others say you can but only after 20, some say it only lets you progress partially before the next cap kicks in. Can't say for sure, which is why I've set the regroup at 100 and just reach it at your own speed, so we're not constantly re-convening.
>>301160
I actually started getting cocky and going into quests without eating or optimising my decos, and it was cute to see normalfags genuinely struggle and panic and triple cart to a Tigrex wading through mud. Then I got so cocky I fell asleep during one quest with a JP player (which was pretty rude) and carted to a Lagombi SOS because I didn't restock any Mega Pots, so I've corrected that behavior. But yeah, at your own time, at your own pace; I'll be burning through, but I might take the time to pause and do some other things before the MR commitment. If you're bored, the Apexes (Rampage modified monsters) feel like good hunts.
It's just wrong adjusting to Rations and Ancient Potions not filling your hunger gauge, I honestly see it more as a bugfix than a feature. Definitely my least liked change in Rise.

>>301162
Yeah, we're on Steam. I think it's the usual you're-paying-for-servers deal if you were sailing the seven seas, but on the other hand, it usually goes on sale every month or so, and it's been a while, last time was $6-10 for the DLC/full package. If you're serious, again, we've got time now.
I mean, try getting online if you can if you're a pirate, but it what it is otherwise. You'll definitely pass the $1/hr standard, and it's below the Monkey Island Inflation bar, if that's any justification.
Replies: >>301187

And no, if you're not retarded, key resellers don't scam you.
It's fucking annoying that they decided to use different servers for every platforms for some stupid reason. Can't even crossplay with people on other platforms even though it's the exact same game. And their servers fucking suck.
>>301182
Guess I'll have to do el chameleos when I boot the game, then.
Didn't really see any other mods that was looking interesting other than the no tents mod. But that just might fuck us over since I heard DLC monsters are bloated to high heaven + difficulty mods making restocks mandatory. But that lead me to spoiler point.
>It's just wrong adjusting to Rations and Ancient Potions not filling your hunger gauge
Yeah, I hate that and love old world for it, but the mod is fucked in that rations, ez rations, well done steaks, and dash juice all act like ancient potions. So the no tent mod might actually make it balanced if we keep running that. Otherwise we have to self regulate the use of these which fucking suck

I was gonna do it again with you guys, I told you not to push yourself too hard and turn MHE off if you're struggling, since you gotta grind up to HR100 to get Valstrax. The first few gates are quick enough to level past, but the HR50->100 is quite a slog, took me a few days half-tabbed while lurking out to finish up. Also it goes without saying, but each Gen 2 Elder's armor set bonus set counters the next one along, and Kushala and Teostra absolutely require a full set of their counter's gear grinded out. Chameleos is the easy one, just with some style due to it being invis, and is the only one where the default skill does something / Teostra's bonus isn't mandatory. You probably figured out to use a Puppet Spider and drag it over to the waterfall to see it's splashing while you fight it, then use another monster's Wyvern Ride to bang into it, then drag it back to the waterfall, but that's how I did it. Classic vidya technique.

<I'd honestly recommend turning the mods off, and knuckling down with cleaning up the remaining quests (Dangos, Sub-Requests, Notes & Endemics if you're into that, etc etc) and just doing random SOS's
See? But yeah, just beat up some kids and do SOS's. Don't push yourself, this is the downtime.

At the very least, now you know how dealing with a pressure-focused monster alone is like. Chameleos is your Magnamalo.

(Why is it only like 3 quests that do this and why is the log useless to determine what crashes it)
Learning an entire moveset and how to parry and position myself from gut feelings and sound cues was something else.
Anyway, yeah, I'll farm all the rest of these without doing these modded 1v1s. If everything goes fine, I might be done by the end of the weekend.

This one's been doing the rounds on JP / CH twitter, and got DMCA'd by Capcom (yes, it's the Fatalis set vs Tokuda, the director of Wilds).

>>302214
I've not played it since the vaunted "performance patches", but I'll just say that I got through the campaign on a 4060 (no fake frames, DLSS smoothing at native), and the only egregious part was the first time entering to the Basin being like everything was covered in insulation foam (likely rendering shaders), at which point I adjusted to Medium textures and beat it clear on from there. Never saw any origami monsters. There's a jokey event quest this patch where you fight "Slimes" which is this Wilds's way to do Arachnophobia settings (that doesn't actually change the mega-spiders, just the endemic ones lol), it'd have been funny for them to take it on the knee and have an origami monster event quest. The performance stuff was overblown, but at the same time still not justifiable, I think I was hovering at ~50-55fps with 1% drops to 30-40 roughly at Medium depending on the setting, again on a 4060. Right now I'm on a 9070 and running it maxed out + the HR Texture pack at a stable 60 (1080p) (with a few performance mods to sweeten it), so I'm not in any position to talk about it running on lower end systems.
The game is easy as shit until Tempered Lagiacrus (postgame, Title Update 2), at which point it's a more healthy difficulty. Will say, Savage Omega crossover is a genuinely great tough fight at intended equipment level, and if World's Alatreon + Fatalis are enough that they're worth playing it for them, then Savage Omega is easily at that level. Gogmazios.... was fine, but a bit of a letdown that his explosive Oilslick didn't web you like in 4U (just slowed you), hopefully that's just a G-Rank Gog thing they left out of HR (along with a few other details) (>>298413), so AT Gog in the expansion can take some names again.

Overall you shouldn't play it because it shoves Nata down your throat and he's easily more insufferable than the World Handler, and because the G-Rank isn't out yet, and because it's not on sale for 75% off / on permanent 100% completeable offline "trial version". Gemma's kind of annoying too; her being Little Miss Forge grown up only goes so far, but at least she keeps to herself and has sex appeal, instead of being a unholy mutt crossover between a jeet's sunken panda-eyes and a somali's bulbhead. He's not made any appearances in the Title Updates, so hopefully Crapcom took the hint and he'll fuck off in the expansion (permanently). I just felt an ominous feeling of a monkey's paw curling....
There's a mod which swaps Nata to a little girl instead (either the brown tomgirl in the Basin / picrel or the Wyverian Songstress in the hub, right down to a Voice AI swap) (which at least makes his her whiny outbursts more tolerable / believable). I think the same guy who did MHExtra is still active an interested in Wilds, so that might go somewhere too, even before 2+ more years of a modding scene doing interesting shit for the game. I'll throw together my personal mod zip if it helps (including the phantom legit DLC unlocker mod which formally doesn't exist), but most of the mods break every TU anyways just as a part of the game being updated, so there's not much of a point right now compared to Rise being finished.

There's a lot of accurate criticisms, but a lot of less discussed positives. Essentially, I set my expectations to experience with the franchise, and got almost exactly what I expected. Most people past the performance seem to have set it way too high (namely, expecting a G-Rank experience from a basegame and another World-tier leap), and got burnt.
I went in knowingly so I could get the Live™ Experience™ / not have to avoid spoilers for years, but for people less invested in the franchise, just wait until it's update cycles are finished + on sale and it'll probably be fine by then (as usual) + most people will hopefully have a better rig at that point.
Sunbreak is like 6 bucks, I might get it.

I'll be doing something tomorrow Mr. Linux, if that's alright with you? Give you more time to debug whatever's going on.

Assuming Rise;
<First Shrine Maiden / Hinoa sits on the corner of the first road, she gives Low Rank / Village / Single-Player scaled Quests. Culminates with Magnamalo, but the final Monster is Almudron. This is completely optional, but the game ushers you in as a tutorial, there's some facility upgrades in LR and if you've already done it, there are 3 Special License Quests that let you skip a portion of Hub Ranks.
<Second Shrine Maiden / Minoto is in the Gathering Hub, near the end of the left road. She gives High Rank / Hub / Multiplayer scaled Quests it's still more than doable solo; but also has a few multiplayer-scaled Low Rank quests. Culminates with Ibushi, but the final Monster is Narwa.
If you need to blitz content, just do SOS flares, which is the ticket board next to Minoto. Helping someone else completes the quest for you too (even if you join late and they kill it as you enter). Your Urgent Quests / Objectives to progress to the next quest rank are in the top right corner while you run around and do shit.
<Little Girl in Elgado / Chichae is in the DLC. She gives G-Rank / DLC Difficulty Multiplayer Quests.

Just do random SOS quests and 7* orange rampages. It will take you like 2-3 game sessions to get to 100+.
The ranks also stack even if you hit the cap, so don't be afraid to go and do some, even if you have schizo hallucination/kush to do as an urgent quest.

Tonight, we're gonna ask Kushala to "sign our petition?".

You can still hop in the lobby if you want; just don't join our quest if you've not got the mods installed. Once you clear the Elders Urgent quests, you're eligible to do their related repeatable event quest, my only concern would be that you gotta be fully geared up and prepared for each one individually (something we've already done for all 5 when we were just reaching HR100), because as you can see, they hit hard and often when modded.

The grind for the first 4 isn't that bad anyways, it's the 50->100 to Valstrax which takes some time.

Postal hiatus over, and all brakes are off the train now - no more holding back and waiting around. Time to deal with Monster Hunter not!Frankenstein.

Also, still working away at the revised OP thing (mostly just finishing touches), figured if anyone has any input / dumb lines they'd like to add, it'd be welcome. Going for a more casual-informative vibe, not too serious but not pointless. It's not a rush, but I want to get it posted and done with, but I also want the icon for whatever the flagship of MHStories 3 is in under 2 weeks.

Sorry boarman, I was not home yesterday and I left you to dry. I'm also not gonna be there today. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Postal was good fun, at least.

It's no problem, I just cleaned up a few of the monsters we haven't done; not gone for Garan yet. I might have something in 2 days time, but I should still be good, depending on how it goes.

If you have anything to add to the latter image, I'm all ears.

Shit happens, nothing wrong with being ill; the backlog is eternal so I won't be sat on my hands. Chicken soup + warm milk&honey is the classic for a reason.

In other news, the usual exclusive final boss for MHStories3 is likely called "Aenshin" from datamined ID's (been cooking something interesting for a while now about those, in relation to how Monster animation rigs have evolved over the generations and who actually shares an OOC-lineage with others, rather than in-universe ecology), so I might be able to scour up it's icon too pre-release for >>303209 and get the new thread made before this time next week.

After almost 3 years my thread is finally at bump limit. It's been an honor gentlemen.
