I'm looking to exit Youtube as they've been blocking VPNs, ad blocking software, creating age verification, pushing globohomo channels more and more. I started this half-heartedly some years ago, so I know two channels I main outside Youtube, but stopped after that. Yes, I know I'm late to the party. Better late than never.
I know this doesn't seem too /tech/ related, but could we suggest good channels outside of Youtube and help others find their fix outside of Youtube? I know the tendency is going to be to shit on others for their tastes, but keep in mind that if you do that the individual involved is likely to stay on Youtube with that sort of attitude. The goal of this thread is more to get people off of Youtube whatever it takes.
I'll start:
Alternative channels I've already found:
Privacy news: https://odysee.com/@AlphaNerd:8
General news: https://rumble.com/c/RonPaulLibertyReport?e9s=src_v1_cmd
Alternatives I'd like to find outside Youtube/mainstream tech:
Hoe Math/that Romanian Vee guy/culture war news
Sabine/general sci news
Vtubers
Bokoen/Paradox map game shitposters

Thanks for any help.
>subscribe to the RSS feeds of channels I follow on an invidious instance with newsraft
>set the m key to open the link with mpv
Granted, this is not what the thread is about, but at least you can watch youtube videos without having to even visit an invidious site, let alone youtube itself.
Too many channels on Youtube are too valuable to lose. You lose regardless now because simple education content is locked behind a devil site.

"I found this medicinal cure that costs $5 and takes cares of 50% of the cases of this disease."
"Too many cases depend on the $2700 cure. You lose now regardless because 90% cure is locked behind devil pharma."
...o.k., let's...still use the $5 cure where we can anyways???
Alternatively, could we keep the "Don't even bother trying" to QTDDTOT? That thinking isn't really helping a whole lot in a thread like this. Thank you.

not this shit again. The majority of jewtube content is for entertainment. People getting banned isn't new on jewtube, not to mention the dislike count. If that didn't get the 'valuable' channels off youtube or at least get them to see what other platforms are out there, maybe thry aren't that valuable at the first place.

Arguably, the majority is operation mockingbird propaganda. Like, SmarterEveryDay is a nice channel, but some of his videos I just think, "How much did the U.S. government PAY you dude???"

Simon Wheeler and his million alt accounts are a better example.

Majority might be however that does not change the truth. Where else am I gonna get nipponese lessons else where besides overpriced teachers
lnvidious and yt-dlp werks 4 me. Haven't seen a YT advert in what... 6-7 years? That's enough of a reason not to use YT directly.

With google's spying capabilities it's questionable how much of an advantage a VPN really is on their sites. And google search has been bullying VPN users for years. These days I don't really give a fuck and watch youtube on my TV.

I been using freetube since I'm too lazy to do the commands.
Here's to the gei usa right before they get detwected as 9 years old for watching minecwaft.

Actual educational channels that are worth it like channels teaching programming concepts, aws certification courses, etc... I rather just download and watch on repeat than see it in google. In fact google is too distraciting for such videos.
>>16789
Invidious seems dead at this point. Most of the videos don't play at all.

>'best content'
Do they really expect people to believe that shit? BEST CONTENT? It's region lock sorta thing in reality. Some videos they don't let some nations watch, back when I used to use jewtube I notcied them blocking some vidoes from my IP before due to marketting. The ads were not for me to see only another nation! Why? Are they implying I'm not allowed to buy what other nations are? NO, they never even expected money that way... so why is the advertising giving them money to begin with if they don't expect people to buy into whatever you're seeing (music video gripe to put into perspective)...? It's not even logical as it implies jewtube wants to censor the buying of music to certain nations. Then again normalfags allowed for profit prisons and that didn't make any sense either to me so maybe advertising money is just as retarded...BEST content....that's enough of the Internet for today.

My current strategy is use a combo of rss feeds + invidiious + yt-dlp to download and watch/listen to the vidoes locally.
>>16836
I only use it to search for videos which mostly seems to work, to watch them, I just share the link to yt-dlp and download it(in Termux).
Is there anyway to dewomanize youtube and bypass age restrictions without logins? I'm tired of this faggotry. Chidlren don't even use the internet they use apps.

Not really. You can "log in" yt-dlp:
https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/wiki/Extractors#exporting-youtube-cookies

But you still need to go through the tedium of setting up burner accounts.

I'm not aware of anybody automating this anymore the way some Invidious and Piped instances used to.
>>17721
You can at least download these videos using ad-infested websites like ytdown.io as long as you have your adblocker on.

good thread to do my question.
I'm having trouble with the cookies of yt, currently using mpv-yt-dlp, I even saved the cookies with a logged user on yt and put the .txt on the mpv player but it still gives the bot error, I'm not too smart on networking, I just have a vpn+disable ipv6+dns+firewall, I'm thinking on just enable ipv6 whenever I want to watch a video with mpv, but it feels unfair...Is there a way or we are fucked?

If you want to be in control of your content, peertube (or any other self-hosted federated alternative) is the only choice.
>>17843
stop using mpv+yt-dlp. use yt-dlp to download vid then watch it with mpv. if it's the space/cache that bothers you, download to /tmp or tmpfs, effect with be identical to mpv+yt-dlp
Replies: >>17880 >>17885
>>17879
While I do exactly that, mpv used to load video practically instantly and with settings you wanted automagically.
You have to wait for full download of audio and video which is a wait no matter what, I assume you can make a script to download audio first and then start downloading video and pipe both files to mpv for a faster way of opening videos depending on your connection, but I have no idea how to do that.
>>17843
cookies expire as soon as you close tab or browser in my experience.
>>16760 (OP)
Freetube.
yt-dlp
>>17879
The problem might literally just be MPV, as instead of chaining yt-dlp more directly, it uses either a hook script or a virtual protocol. Other players chain in a more straightforward fashion, for instance, SMPlayer, and might have less/different issues.
