What's your favorite pre-Y2K anime? Mine is OG Dragon Ball

Dragon Half or Martian Successor Nadesico.
The latter is a love letter to the mecha genre and surprisingly can go deep if you are autistic enough to analyze it.

I liked Ghost in the Shell, Hunter x Hunter, Rurouni Kenshin, some of the Gundam animes, and Cowboy Bebop (yes, it originally came out in 1998, but the Cartoon Network English release was 2001).

I heard good things about Fist of the North Star, Ranma 1/2, and Yu Yu Hakusho also.

Since we're on pre-2000s animes, has anyone seen Outlaw Star and is it any good?

Outlaw Star is great and has a short spinoff called Angel Links which is also good.

Probably Riding Bean, Gunsmith Cats OVA is also cool but other than those two I also quite like the older Lupin parts.

Most of my favorite anime are pre-Y2K
>Fist of the North Star
>Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z
>Ashita no Joe
>Crayon Shin-Chan
>Initial D (Though it ran from 98' to 2016)
>Dr. Slump and Arale

Isn't it called just "Dr Slump"?

The 1981 anime is called Dr. Slump – Arale-chan
The 97' one is just called Dr. Slump.

I slept on outlaw star for so long and then when I finally watched it, I binged it. MC is an absolute chad and it was nice to not have some fag as the main character.

OG DragonBall >>> DragonBallZ and every DB shit that came after that

There was nothing more hype than watching the Goku vs Frieza fight on Toonami with your friends after school. OG Dragon Ball simply didn't have that many exciting moments.
Both are good though.

Dragon Ball was better because it had less fight-fight-fight autism and more goofing around, making it a more rounded experience.
>>207
I like both styles, and I like that they're different. DB shines at the adventure format, while DBZ shines at the fight-fight-fight.
In contrast, GT is bad at the adventure format and Super is shit at the fight-fight-fight.

Honestly, I liked the beginning of GT a lot. It felt like a return to Dragon Ball with Goku de-aging and taking his granddaughter and nephew on a trip. Too bad it turned to shit at some point. Baby Vegeta was a cool design, though.

Dragon Ball should have ended after the Pilaf arc. The first tournament arc was okay, but you could really tell that Toriyama was already running out of ideas during all that Red Ribbon bullshit.

I enjoyed DBZ all the way, Cell Saga was my favorite. Only part that felt rushed was the last of Buu saga.
DB was really it’s own thing, Toriyama should’ve continued it as a spin off or with new characters.

Haven't seen much of DBZ yet. I already miss loli Chichi, though.

You can't give me an armorkini and then later take it back, anon. It's just not right.

>Dragon Ball was better because it had less fight-fight-fight autism and more goofing around, making it a more rounded experience.
Dragon Ball had adventure, comedy and fights.
DBZ was just:
>enemy arrives>omg is too powerful>training>30 episodes anticipating the fight>10 episodes of fight>enemy defeated>another enemy arrives>omg is much stronger than the previous one! we need to train!>the cycle repeats.
It really was fight-fight-fight autism as you said.

for me that would be Gunsmith cats and the first Hellsing adaptation from the 90s

>>79
it's a shame Gunsmith Cats never got a proper adaptation, the manga seemed to me like it had great potential to be animated especially the car chases. Another nice thing is that Sonada picks up a lot plot aspects of riding bean in the manga, which I cannot recommend enough.

You don't want a modern adaption.
Imagine gunsmith with CGI cars

original DB spends way too much time not actually getting anything done. the Red Ribbon Saga is the worst of it, they spend ten episodes longer than they need to in the sub base cave, for example.

fairs, I can only dream of a faithful adaptation then...

It would work if it got the lupin treatment but that's likely to ever happen.

>fight fight fight autism
It's niggering, why do you think normalniggers like dbz so much? Children like the adventure of dragon ball type animus and autists like stupid shit like sonic, digimon, pokemon, etc, and or only watch anime of which is mostly comprised of the most retarded dialog that you will ever see because autists don't know how to think verbally.

El Hazard is my mom's favorite anime.
